RE: Whats the Best Allied Cruiser pre October ?

Post by ny59giants »

Your's in the best time game wise to be playing. From mid-42 to mid-43 is the best as both sides have sufficient forces to hurt each other and the Allies "finally" start getting better planes. After the F6F's and Corsair's arrive in numbers, it is mostly all down hill for the Japanese. [&o]
Tarawa may be bloody for the amount of aircraft loss, not the cost in ground units. [8|]

OK my lil invasion force went in 750 men stormed ashore into murderous fire from the not quite full suppressed Japanese NLF troopers.

B25's are going in with Frags at treetop level at Dawn and the Burmese levies have been ordered to attack.

B17's and B24's will try saturation bombing a little later P40's and F4F's have been ordered to sweep away the inevitable LRCAP.

Tarawa was a good result I captured really really cheaply and Pauk hasnt dared to try and take it back it could be a real springboard into the Marshalls.

Despite the loss of Northern Australia I feel I am dammed good shape in this game.

P38's 14 days and counting

Getting closer to the 10/42 upgrade that adds a lot to the USN

It marks the real introduction of 40mm Bofors to most DD's and CA's and the really nice (equivalent to the RN's 271) SG Radar once I have this upgrade cycle done I will be ready able and willing to seek out and destroy !!!!!

In additon I am starting to get Fletcher DD's which are damn near as good individually as some of the pre war Jap CL's with top notch AA to boot.

I am really short ofr Austrlian Corps HQ's

I would like 1 for the potential Amphib op 1 for an overland to Perth and a third for a northern diversion.

12 Divisions or equivalents of Australians and 2 Divs of NZers and only 1 Corps HQ for the lot

New house rule in China as I was getting concerned that Pauk was aiming for total annihalation of China and that with all my supplies gone I wouldnt be able to stop him.

I had to ask because if that was his game then I would have to react with a few questionable tactics of my own

Its not and we have agreed 1 Div of Chi Com army as a free transfer to Burma/malaya but Chengtu and Chungking are inviolate to japanese Ground Units.

Its a fair compromise in my view to keep the game in the spirit it has been played so far.

I really need to do something about Perth the RN portion of the Pacific Fleet is rotating between Aukland and Sydney at the moment a stronger British Commitment to the defence of Australia cannot be imagined

Indomitable/Illustrious and Formidable covered by 3rd Battle Sqn and 1st / 5th and 6th Cruiser Sqns and 2 x (Fleet) and 3 x (Escort) Destroyer Flotillas (To me escort DD's include FDers S Class and Vampire Class)

A powerfull force if not quite up to KB standards

I think I will leave 1 Destroyer Flotilla and a division of heavy and light cruisers from 1st and 5th Sqn at Sydney with POW as Flag the rest will retire to New Cal/Suva for the time being. (I have 7 other USN Fleet Destoyer Flotilla's with the US Pacific Fleet preparing for the 10/42 upgrade)

Pauk picks of bases in SOPAC

My Mediums are starting raids in northern Burma.

I have a huge portion of the USAAF in India I really did expect an attack on India.

I estimate 4 weeks for the 10/42 upgrades to be reapaired so lets say 4 weeks add 2 weeks for deployment I will be ready to strike in mid November.

I just need to pick a target.

I have lost sight of the IJN Carriers but with the Combined Pacific Fleet I think an invasion of the Solomons in November is looking good as the Marshalls will be to heavily defended by now alternatively a re invasion of PM looks like a real possibility

OK 4 choices for my November Pacific Offensive

Wake
Marshalls
Solomons
PM

My current thinking is a 3 Divisional Assault on PM or Solomons any thoughts ?

Wake is to isolated and the Marshalls to heavily defended by now

A MISTAKE

Post by Andy Mac »

OK guys time to confess a cock up in this last turn I noticed a mistake I had made in terms of game mechanics.

I had obviously been playing with options and running some tests and I appear to have done it in a live turn. (oops !!!)

SOPAC had been sent to SEAC and as a result 3rd USMC Para and Raider Bns have appeared at Karachi. Only these two units have been affected no other air or land units are impacted.

This was not my intent.

I do not want to declare this to Pauk as I was intending to send the Paras to SEAC for a cunning plan I had so I am logging the issue here and taking corrective action.

I have found SOPAC HQ and converted back to SOPAC and have paid the PP cost for both Bns to make them SEAC.

In effect this has cost me 400 PP's more than it should have but knocked 60 days off the arrival of the Paras

As this was a screw up I will also be holding those two units inactive prepping for San Francisco at Karachi for the 60 turns they should have been in transit.

I am not declaring this to Pauk as I dont want to give away my surprise no action will be taken with these units they will not move or do anything until 29th November.
