The modus operandi of the Allies holds true, fast transport to grab lightly held port, follow on landing of the real troops...

I am hoping, faint hope surely, that the destroyer squadron will cause the ABDA invasion fleet to react away from Pegu...that Pegu's LRCAP keeps the field open, that the transports fly in some troops to hold the base for a day for a regiment to arrive by rail on the following day.

Faint hope.[;)]

My goodness, that is a lot of troops on an xak!

Why in the world would there be a lone xak?

Another one base gone...that will probably cut off all of Burma...not that there is a lot of troops there, 1 IJA Division near Lashio, and 2 splintered RTA Divisions, a handful of AA and three ENG units.

70 Oscars two hexes away couldn't intercept a single transport plane.

All these British destroyers are very tough in this game. One of them sank three destroyers all by her lonesome.[:(]

Best to take the advice from a neighboring AAR and "blame the staff".

HMS Isis has also been kicking keisters in other AAR, most notably she singlehandedly beat up a fleet in this engagment (again, in a neighboring AAR):
Night Time Surface Combat, near Darwin at 76,124, Range 10,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima
CA Kumano
CL Kitakami, Shell hits 4
CL Oi, Shell hits 4, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Arashi
DD Hatsuyuki
DD Murakumo

Allied Ships

Isis is/was a goddess!
Unlike the other Egyptian goddesses, the goddess Isis spent time among her people, teaching women how to grind corn and make bread, spin flax and weave cloth, and how to tame men enough to live with them (an art form on which many of us would welcome a refresher course!)

Isis taught her people the skills of reading and agriculture and was worshipped as the goddess of medicine and wisdom.

Isis, Egyptian Goddess of Magic and Giver of Life

So that was the problem, the Allies have called upon the ancient gods for help!

Intercepting transport planes with LRCAP is near impossible.

The CAP has to fly low enough to be able to intercept the transports.

So, Japan has amassed close to 300 fighters, a HQa, a a Sentai of Betties with excellent pilots all based on a large enough runway to try a high altitude approach on the ABDA massed fleet. If I can eliminate one CV from flight operations, then the KB can pounce....today the range is set at 8 (max range for the Tojo IIa) and the ABDA fleet need only steam 4 hexes to be in range.

Close to 400 planes possible on the KB, but currently has about 200 with the rest cooling their heels on nearby runways ready to shuttle to the KB on a moments notice. Allied deathstar shows around 200 fighters and 70 bombers.

I also set up a small convoy at Aparri under some heavy CAP in case the Allies fly some planes forward from the CVs to Clark or Manila.
