Watching the first of seven BBC programs entitled Spotlight on the Troubles. Never fun reading and viewing this desperately sad subject but this is the sort of conflict that the phrase "All we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history" could be written about.

As one former PIRA member said at the end of the 2nd episode; what a waste of time, what a waste of life.

Finally got round to making a start on The Looming Tower. Two episodes in and I have to say its very good so far.

As I've started reading up on the Wars of The Roses I checked out some available programming on YouTube that is actually nicely done. Too bad the History channel in the U.S. doesn't include history programming anymore.

I finished off the 5-part series Thatcher: A Very British Revolution.

What a truly riveting, well put together and thoroughly brilliant series.

Regardless of what one's politics are/were, what can't be denied is what an incredible person Lady Thatcher was. Its easy to forget the appalling state of the UK when she assumed office in May 1979, and just what a monumental disaster of an economy she had to sort out.

Love her, hate her, one thing was for certain, you couldn't ignore her.

But what really hit home was the age and varying stages of frailty of many of the contributors to the series. These were the politicians of my late teens and twenties....wow I feel old....

Lots of memories, many good, many bad and many sad.

Recommended viewing - especially for those of a UK persuasion - and in particular if you are at least 50 years old.

I think that particular photo may have been taken last year after the first landing of a F-35B on Queen Elizabeth. It was a USMC F-35B flown by a British pilot training with it in the States. British F-35Bs from the RAF/RN 17 (Test and Evaluation Squadron) arrived on Queen Elizabeth a few days ago. At the moment there are six British F-35Bs on board. Yesterday they were joined by USMC F-35Bs for joint training.

The UK will declare Initial Operating Capability for Carrier Strike by the end of 2020. The first operational deployment for HMS Queen Elizabeth is due to take place in 2021.

Finished this off last night. I have to say I was very impressed as it maintained its early promise and I would recommend this show.

The story is pure invention, it has nothing to do with Catherine, her life and the events that surrounded it.

There is a wonderful YouTube series called "Extra Credits" - basically a retelling of historical events and historical lives by using nice animations (funny cartoons, but it works). The run they did about Catherine the Great is among my favourites. Check it out:

Started watching Catherine the Great with Helen Mirren. Only four parts which is a bit of a shame. One episode in and I'm not too sure what to make of it.

Well The Dublin Murders came to an end tonight and I have to say I found that thoroughly enjoyable, Sarah Greene was a delight to watch, Killian Scott is a fine actor, Conleth Hill (Lord Varys) was good value, but the surprise was at the end and a very, very fine performance from the baddie (don't worry no spoilers here [:)])

Thanks for not revealing any spoilers and thanks again for recommending this series. I have watched the five episodes so far, will watch the sixth tomorrow. I have been enjoying the series hugely.
