Well, i've learned that 16x (record speed) DVDs are only marginally faster than the 2.4x dual layer DVDs... despite having an "18x" burner, the average recording speed on the "fast" disks is about 3-4x, and on the "slow" disks it is a solid 2.4x. So, you really don't save much time on the "fast" disks, and you use up about 1/2 as many disks (4.4 gigs recordable on the fast disks, 8 gigs on the slow dual-layer disks.)
