now I know what´s going on... even though my patrols haven´t spotted the IJN coming in yesterday, the sub that was attacked in this area should have warned me... at this stage I would have bet that we´re talking about a naval bombardment of Milne Bay... got quite a substantial fighter force there at the airfield, the base is only covered by PT boats...

7 IJN BBs are operating against Milne Bay and it´s just annoying that my subs are useless day after day after day, while our heavily escorted DDs stumble over an enemy sub in the middle of nowhere and you most times can be sure that a capitol ship is put out of action... grrr[:@]

the only positive today... fuel cargo is burning, but this is very close to Truk so I´m not sure the AO is sunk. But even if the ship isn´t sunk, I guess it will be stuck at Truk with major floatation damage as Truk has got no shipyard and can´t repair major flt damage on an AO. This should be considered a kill.

is this what was meant by toned down? Granted, I´m not suffering the 400 hits on the airfield PzB achieved with his bombardments against AndyMac, but also in this campaign, I can´t confirm that the "toned down" actually works. The losses within the support LCUs at the bombarded base have been toned down considerably but the hits on the base itself is something I can´t see a difference at all. All you need is a high detection level, no difference to WITP here. What happened at Akyab and Chittagong earlier in this PBEM is now happening at Milne Bay... nukes... considering the low aircraft replacement numbers and today´s losses, this was not really different at all to WITP where the aircraft losses would have been higher but also the replacement rates.
I was more than amazed that only one TF bombarded the base, if all TFs would have done a bombardment, we would probably speak about 500+ hits on the base and 4 times more ac lost... [8|]
considering the number of subs in this area, it would be more than cool if luck would change side at some point and we could get at least a shot at an enemy capitol ship...

I even used the medium bombers for the attack on Buna... they were set to attack by accident as I don´t want to use them on extended range as they are fragile enough on normal range already... while my heavy bombers are more or less immune to everything, the medium bombers (no matter if Mitchell or Marauder) are very fragile. And those two types are the best medium bombers, I don´t even want to think about all the crap I´ve got that is also called medium bomber...

now all the TFs that swept Milne Bay are returning to Rabaul... I guess only this turn, those TFs had to pass over at least 6 or 7 subs and did this without even an attempt of being attacked... there will be the time when luck changes sides... at least that´s what I´m telling myself all the time... if not, I´m the Allied and in mid 44 I get the toys to wreck the Japanese so luck isn´t needed anymore then... [;)]
not really a nice turn for us...
