"ice colonies can usually avoid natural disasters"

Natural disasters, yet another new feature!

Indeed, these represent planetary "mega-disasters" and here's an example of one. The note above was for that specific race, which is more likely than others to avoid natural disasters on ice colonies (their home planet type).

- Erik

Disallowed Technology, Woooohooooo! [&o]
I know it's only a small thing, but this is another step towards unique tech trees. In fact, if we were allowed to add a list of techs to this, then it would be perfect for me.

Yes, indeed, we're getting there. [8D]

Is weapon damage/armor system changed?

Tweaked a bit, but not really changed. How were you expecting things to change?

Now we can have small full packed galaxies and nearly empty huge galaxies...
Would love to play a 100 stars 15x15 sector game :)

Yes, it definitely changes the game to play on a larger map.

Regards,

- Erik

"Gameplay has been greatly expanded for each race wiith new race-specific events and victory conditions, a new system for borders and s"

What does "and s" imply?

Hm, it appears we had an editing mistake there. Mea culpa. That should have read: "a new system for borders and spheres of influence."

Are those circle zones of control? The difference looks a bit large to be different long range scanners. The top and bottom colony of the minimap does not seem to have any, though. Also, only the very bottom green colony appears to have any such circle, but we would not see this for a foreign power anyways, would we? Maybe if allied/spied? It could make sense that planets needs some "power" have an influence zones.

The circles are spheres of influence and that's one of the new overlays that can be turned on and off. Explored systems within your sphere of influence are considered to be under your control and define your "borders" within the galaxy. When you negotiate mining or refueling rights, or consider whether another species is trespassing in your systems, it's control rather than sphere of influence that matters.

No he's not, TJ. The cargobay is empty until beta testing is completed.
He's probably instructing his baby in warp-field theory.

So my Jedi Mind trick did not work... [:(] [:D][:D][:D]

Erik, I have been enjoying the cameraderie of the DW folks here, but all this stuff looks WAY COOL.
And in my old age, I am not easy to impress any more...
It looks like we are in for a cool game...

Thank you!

Is it possible to mod the map size? For example make a 20x20 grid, or a 15x5 grid?

I would like to know what else is being available to mods. Only races and characters as said on the product page?

Before I keep putting in more hours will the expansion allow you to mod Galactapedia and or tech tree???? I can mod the Galactapedia entries by messing with the help file but it still doesn't link to the new races created as I can't change the Menu in Galactapedia. Please fix this.

Many Thanks

I can see the next expansion (now with the Corporate Nationalism government type) will be Distant World: Rise of Corporations. We could choose to play as a multi-empire corporation trying to control the universe through trade, pirating, conflicts and assassination. The Orion Syndicate, anyone.

Nice! I've never really had problems with DWs graphical... simplicity, but more new art is always great! Disasters sound like an interesting feature.

About leaders: Can you have leaders of other races in your empire? Meaning, can leaders of other empires join yours because of unrest, bribing by spies or conquering a planet where other empires leader is working?

BTW, Erik, I'm willing to join the beta testing but I'm not sure if I've missed the announcement for that. So, what I need to do to express my interest of joining the beta testing? Thanks in advance!

Every weapon should have shield penetration chance, bigger for beams, less for lasers and missiles etc.
Shields should have different resistance to penetration, and it will be interesting to add new components like shield boosters etc. It will increase armor importance, as I don't really care about it right now, just add more shields and its done.

The largest I saw was 15 x 15, but perhaps it will be larger for the production version.
