Taking casualties in a win is bad, taking more casualties in a held really sucks...

it also depends on what your attacking and how obviously. Try to avoid attacking rifle corps, focus on divs or armour corps, if possible off course.

That is true ofc, but at times I simply have to attack if the odds seems in favour, as that is more or less the only way to buy some time.

Overall
Mud sets in, and we start to fall back at once. The fact that the USSR manage 39 attacks this round only helps this decision. The USSR attacks results in 6 helds, 30 retreatsm 1 shatter, 2 routs. The shattered unit is a Rumanian Infantry Division, so no big loss really. We remove alot of forts this turn which is why the Hiwi number below is so high.

-have pz corps with high initiative rating (8+) and army army grp (7+)
-2to3 pz and 1 pzgr per corps all with 3 support units each
-spread em out behind lines to cover 8-9 hexes with the Hq in the middle so all are in contact
-never have them in the front and taking attrition and fatigue
-Hwy pz bats and pioners for pz and mot flak 88mm and stugs for MOT divisions

Partially. At times I need them to counterattack to drive the enemy away from an essential hex or two, but yes, I try to keep them in the rear.

Overall
We keep fallin back. We left some Rumanians for the USSR to play with, but they are content routing them instead of destroying them. I want them killed off before Rumania falls, so that is not what I want to see.

Overall
Well, finally most of our troops arrive at the new line. Now we need to make sure it holds untill next winter, when the rivers once more means nothing. As feared, two infantry divisions are lost during the retreat. Still it could be worse I guess, just ask Napoleon...
The USSR make 11 attacks, scoring 2 helds, 2 retreats, 6 routs and 1 surrender this turn.

Overall
Well, the USSR keep attacking the Rumanians that are left behind, and I keep occupying the new line with as many German divisions as possible. There are not enough of them however. Atleast not in proper shape. I now fear that our adjusted defensive CV will not be high enough to delay the USSR for long. If so the next step will have to be defending nothing but Germany itself...
The USSR make 13 attacks, scoring 3 helds, 3 retreats, 5 routs and 2 shatters. The shatters destroys a total of 5 Rumanian units, all extremely weak and understrength.
