Since the changes in v1.5 the sub warfare model has become ridiculous. Considering that the USN Silent Service sunk 80% of the 5,000,000 tons of Japanese shipping during the war and Allied surface forces, CV air and land based air sank only 20%, in this game currently the Silent Service takes more damage than it receives. Japanese air damages more subs in a week than occurred historically in the war. The Japanese player set the game to auto sub ops so I cant stop the subs from self immolation. I decided to send them ALL to San Diego for R&R so they repair slowly and are further away from Japan. Admiral AI still sends them to their death off the coast of Japan but it takes longer now.

Yeah, I've got 4 subs left, and each time they repair they go scooting off to some heavily defended port like Pearl.

Best thing to do is watch for them on the way out (check in the active ships list or the TF lists), and convert it manually to your control. Will remain that way until hit or disbanded in port. Then you can send them where you like including docking them. As long as they aren't disbanded.

Allied armored spearhead reaches Tavoy as both sides contest the skiies above. Yesterday the Spitfires and Hurricanes got roughed up by A6M3s and Tonys over Tavoy so today the P-47 Thunderbolts and the P-40Ns were sent in to return the favor and the Japanese lose 41 AC in A2A combat vs 21 Allied. Allied bombers continue to pound both the airfields and the ground units at Tavoy.

The UK 18th Infantry Division invests Krung Thep a mere sixty miles from Bangkok. The Japanese rush reinforcements into Bangkok by convoy but are hit with Beaufighter MK21s flying out of Rangoon.

Burma:

Allied bombers hit IJN shipping off Bangkok and Bandou.

The last Japanese owned city in Burma was captured today as 120,000 SEAC troops attacked Taung Gyi...the Japanese remnants fled into the interior jungles.

SEAC troops continue to pour into Tavoy.


SWPAC:

Naval bombers from Koepang hit Japanese shipping at Kendari. It appears as if Japanese transports are very active now in an attempt to reinforce their crumbling positions in SE Asia.

SEAC:

Allied bombers continue to work over Japanese transports at Bandou in the midst of fierce A2A battles. The Japanese have been shipping in reinforcements to Bandou and and then moving them by rail to Krung Thep(without having to cross the river). The IJA now has numerical superiority at Krung Thep and actually counterattacked today(although with heavy losses). Land combat starting to stagnate now in SE Asia until SEAC can bring up more troops. If the Japanese can continue to buildup their forces as rapidly as the Allies they could create a stalemate in this theater.

The Japanese have been shipping in reinforcements to Bandou and and then moving them by rail to Krung Thep(without having to cross the river).

Actually, I reinforced from Bangkok; so perhaps if you own a base in the destination hex you don't have to assault across the river (like the thread on the main forum says) to move in...

SITUATION REPORT: 10-18-43


SEAC:

81,000 Allied troops deliberate attack 20,000 IJA at Tavoy and capture the city forcing the Japanese to retreat towards Bandou. The Japanese appear to have another 25,000 troops entrenching at Bandou and will probably make it their final defensive line above Malaya.

Meanwhile, 56,000 IJA counterattack 16,500 SEAC troops at Krung Thep and force the Allies to retreat back across the river.

(Editor's Note: The ground war we are having in SE Asia is the most active, fluid and fun major land war I have ever experienced with WITP. Supply is not a problem for either side and both armies and air forces can fire away.)

It's bad enough the Allies have Rangoon. With the air coverage from that base it really limits my free shipping areas out of the DEI. I have to hold them to no further advances, but this last defence cost me a great many planes and far too many troops cut off. I suspect a march down the Malaya coast, or coastal hopping invasions so I must prepare for both. That doesn't leave too much in the front line, as the front line is the entire coast of Malaya. I know most of his carriers are busy elsewhere, so perhaps he will only have LBA to cover any invasions, but that's enough if I can't get through his cap.

NEW GUINEA CAMPAIGN: INVASION OF BIAK...D-DAY MINUS ONE

Allied naval forces approach the coast of Biak in preparation for tomorrows invasion. The shelling is scheduled to commence at 4AM 10-26-43.


SEAC:

The armored spearhead of SEAC, the 255th Indian Tank Brigade, reaches the coast of the Gulf of Siam only 120 mi from both Bangkok and Victoria Point. The Malay peninsula has now been cut off from the rest of Indochina.

In only 7 weeks, the SEAC offensive has advanced 600 miles from Mandalay to the Gulf of Siam. Allied logistics struggle to keep pace with the rapid advance by the ground forces.

The biggest problem I am facing in SE Asia right now is the constant retreating my troops have been doing; or have been forced to do. I have combat units with a morale of 1. They have to get behind my lines to recover, but the Allies are pushing fast. I will most likely abandon Victoria point without a fight for that reason. It is currently being bombed out of effectiveness, and I couldn't hold if I wanted to. I have fresh troops, but not up where it counts in any numbers to stop them there.

SITUATION REPORT: 10-27-43 NEW GUINEA CAMPAIGN: CAPTURE OF BIAK


Led by the US Army 1st Calvary Division , SWPAC forces swarmed ashore on Biak yesterday finding minimal resistance. An all out shock attack was delivered today and all 2000+ defenders were annihilated.

The Allies now hold Biak and New Guinea is looking pretty"green" these days...not too much red left:

SITUATION REPORT: 11-5-43


SEAC:

63,500 SEAC troops deliberately attacked 16,000 IJA in Victoria Point. The SEAC troops took control of Vicky Point and forced the IJA troops to retreat to the interior jungles of the Malay peninsula where they are now cut off from supply.

The SEAC armoured spearhead led by 254th Indian Tank Brigade and 7th Armoured Tank Brigade is ordered to conduct a deliberate attack at Bandou tomorrow.

This was supposed to be me ambushing bombers. But today of all days they show up with plenty of escorts.

I lost 60 good fighters today to about 1/2 that number shot down.

SITUATION REPORT: 11-11-43


The KB is stationed off the coast of Ulithi and sends LRCAP to interdict Allied heavy bombers over Woleai. The Japanese lose 60 fighters vs 23 Allied AC. The P-38J(4 killed out of 24) vastly outperforms the P-38G(18 killed out of 41). All P-38G squadrons were immediately upgraded after this air battle.

SOPAC:

Base suppression continues at Truk, Rabaul, Kwajalein and Ponape.



SEAC:

The Allied attack at Bandou was stopped cold in its tracks on 11-7-43 as the IJA managed to sneak in the 46th Infantry Division. Massive armor and arty reinforcements were sent to Bandou and another deliberate assault is ordered for tomorrow.
