Well, the landing went really well. Now to see if more opposition will come in the way of kamikaze, or not.
Lang son instead [X(]. Seems like it will be really a long slog... Bet andav is happy about that result at least[:)]

RE: 1944 October 16
Lang Son is another zombie camp waiting to happen. As soon as you have closed the door behind them you have Pakhoi and Kwangochowan and can exploit onwards. He has just lost a large number of units there and unless he realises and pulls them back fast they are gone for good. Its not a good defence point because it can be easily outflanked as you have done. A much better line of defence is the Nanning to Canton one based along the river and the good defensive terrain - and he has not had time to get that set up. Movement to take the hexes across the river south of Nanning opens up a move on Wuchow but more importantly Liuchow (cuts rail link)

One of the interesting things I have noticed in this game, is that Andav hasn't really given up a ton of land combat victory points, at least that is what I recall when I asked about it a month or two back.
So sacrificing units to become Zombies, yields time and not a huge amount of VP. But what has Andav done with that time.[&:]
At some point the Allies will run into a defensive line in China that Japan wants to hold, I suspect. Mere supposition on my part...
What does the IJN look like these days? Can't be much left, can there?

Our subs stalked CL Noshiro west of Japan.
Sea lift into Pakhoi goes well and there was no challenge for control of the skies over the base today. Kweilin has half as many fighters as it did, now ~119, and no increases nearby are visible. The USA Provisional Tank Brigade is at Pakhoi with the exception of 12 Motorized Support still to be lifted from Haiphong, so it will set out to catch up to the two USA divisions tasked with cutting off Lang Son.
Tandjoengbalai is ours.
Our units at Lang Son are recovering slowly as predicted. We will move out the armor to reduce stacking because they can move back in quickly, and the one USA division that is mostly disabled. Now one or both units east of Lang Son are moving east, possibly in response to the movement indicators of the 2 USA divisions at Pakhoi.
Mataram has been freed.
All troops are now ashore at Naha.
Which brings us to sea and sea-air actions. There were no sea actions! Sea-air actions were limited to some long distance 2EB strikes on retiring convoys that were out of fighter protection range. Sadly for us the Empire used excellent pilots and they torpedoed some LCI and two APA. The APA will be repaired as long as the Imperial sub or subs (vaguely detected but not spotted) does not get them. ASW assets are being moved to sweep the retirement path. One sub was hit SE of Daito Shoto and several DD ASW TF will, after sweeping said retirement path, sweep that hex on their way to Iwo Jima.
That brings up the next point. All troops are ashore and sufficient supply has been delivered to them, so the fleet is withdrawing. All ships still unloading have been ordered to stop, pull up anchor, and head out. All warship task forces are being moved to protect the retirement and, hopefully, that will result in any IJN surface forays finding only our submarines. Most surface combat elements have re-based out of Iwo Jima and will commence hitting Daito Shoto after the fleet passes. Some carrier support will remain south of Daito Shoto while the rest replenishes, but I have not decided details of that assignment yet. The convoys will disband and able ships will organize into invasion convoys for Daito Shoto.
Two days of unloading, withdrawal ordered for D+2. I'm very happy with that.

Our subs are battling the IJN thrust into the Okinawa area.
Affairs at Pakhoi are going great. The four divisions have now moved out of hex toward their respective objectives, and have scouted enemy units in the woods toward Wuchow and Canton. Three enemy units east of Mengtze is moving NE toward the road. The unit at Mengtze is not moving and I guess will be sacrificed in place to slow the Chinese Army breakout. East of Tsuyung an Imperial unit has pulled back across the river and we did not even know it was moving. Tomorrow we attack at Mengtze and recon by artillery at Kunming.
Most defenders at Singora were battered from previous retreats.
The armor is out of the Lang Son hex and most units, both among the armor and at Lang Son have recovered disruption. A couple of infantry units at Lang Son are going into reserve to aid recovery.
Surprise at Soerabaja.
The Empire is continuing its artillery bombardments on Okinawa.
Only badly damaged vessels are making a slow getaway, the rest are moving swiftly. There is an IJN TF 7 hexes ENE of Daito Shoto that scouts as 6 ships, 1x AV, 1 CVL, and 1 bomber embarked. Our fleet carriers are just south of a line straight west from Daito Shoto (5 hexes from where their aircraft struck ships off Nago) and 4 hexes from that island. They will move SE to get between the IJN carriers and the retiring convoys while the CVE stay closer to the convoys. This will also protect surface action groups that are too far away from Iwo Jima to get CAP there.

Okinawa. The IJN task forces engaged by our carrier air came down from the north and north east. Notice that the IJN is also sending forces more generally south of the Home Islands.
