Does that mean we should be nominating Steve for canonization?

Seriously though, I have been reading the AAR's(chuckling at yours Bo, I like your style) and I must say the game is looking awesome on so many levels. It not too many times in life that one is given the responsibility, time and ability to tackle something so large that requires such unbridled dedication, passion and perseverance that this beloved endeavor has, of this I am sure.

I [&o] to you Steve, and to the supporting few dedicated members that have helped to sustain you, of this I am sure.

Me, I just want to play, so hurry the f up [:D] , ha.

My god, what a monumental task, well done!

Congratulations on the game being so close to release, Steve :) - what you have managed to achieve is very, very impressive!!
Must be a huge satisfaction to see it (almost) done and getting ready for sale, after having invested so much work and effort into this project - truly a good feeling to have created something of that magnitude :)

As a footnote, this is the 8th anniversary of my monthly status reports on MWIF. By another accounting, I am starting my ~99th month of work on the game.
Speaks for itself... :)

What I want to do, and this was suggested to me by several people in the forum, is to enable PBEM games to switch over to NetPlay games from time to time (at the players' choice). So when one side is moving all their land units, or during production, the exchange of decisions is via email. When things get hot and heavy (e.g., naval movement, air-to-air combat), the players go to NetPlay mode.

I haven't thought out the technical details of this yet, but it seems feasible at first glance. I think it might be "a good thing to do".
Excellent idea! It does seem like 'a good thing to do' ;)

Ahem, as long as it does not impact the release date. Don't go adding scope so close to finish line #1

Am I misunderstanding that there would be no AI? It would just be a digital board game and we waited how long for this?

Welcome aesopo.

There will be no AI or PBEM in the first release. A lot of work has been done on the AI and it is planned to be included in release 2, possibly with PBEM at that time too, but if not then later.

Steve isn't promising definite time-frames, apart from for release 1 (Nov 7th). They'll be ready when they're ready.

I give you fair warning. This has all been endlessly thrashed out here and you probably won't make many friends by wingeing about it. There are good reasons for what is happening and nothing is going to change it. We've all been waiting a very long time for this game.

Cheers, Neilster

Thrashed out, well said Neilster, but I see you were keeping it within reason of the word insanity, there were a few battles right? [:@]

Just a short note for this month.

In case you didn't hear already, the official release date for MWIF is November 7th.

I made my annual visit to Philadelphia following up on the treatment for the melanoma in my left eye. The cancer cells remain dead and are slowly being cleaned up by natural bodily processes. Its thickness has decreased from 5.1 mm in 2011, to 4.1 mm last year, and 3.4 mm this year. But the micro-radiation treatment has caused (20 months after the event) damage to other parts of that eye's retina. That's getting periodic injections to reduce the inflammation and other poor performance by the cells involved.

---

I finished recording the last 3 training videos while I was in Philly, but I still need to edit them to remove all my hems, haws, and long silences.

I put in the sound effects, music, and historical video clips last month.

For the month I uploaded for the beta testers versions 00.11.00.05, 00.11.00.06, and 00.11.01.00 through 00.11.00.08. That's 11 new versions with a total of 119 fixes. Not too bad considering the last version was uploaded on September 25 before I left for Philly for 5 days.

I'm working my way through the remaining bugs. Those number less than 50 as I write this.

Sorry if this post isn't meant for this thread. I didn't want to start an entirely new thread.

Q: If I want to buy the digital download version for a few mates, can I do this? If so, how?

There might be a Matrix customer support thread or contact info you can try?

Unless Matrix staff who know the ins and outs of their ordering system are monitoring this thread, you might not get an answer.

I've been lurking for too long.

This product release thing is FREAKING ME OUT! [:D]

I used to beta-test, and am greatly looking forward to auto-calculation of a thing called supply.

Whew! Exciting Days.

Government Shutdown, Possible Debt Default, Reserve Currency Crisis, and the long-awaited release of MWIF.
