During the night, multiple small task forces of IJN destroyers are sent hunting the Allied Armada...first contact is in relatively clear waters south south west of Formosa. No Allied hits as the destroyers dance and weave from a distance.

A second round starts a bit closer, but not danger close for optimum torpedo launch. What a pity....

Low altitude night bombing. Two Air Regiments and Petes flying CAP can't stop the hits or damage the planes.

Daytime arrives, in a rain squall, the brave Tama attempts to deliver some torpedoes, 6K, then full speed to 2K on approach, but the Trenton fires a spread of torpedoes and one hits the Tama in the bow![:(]
Destroyer Kagero comes port 6 degrees and launches her spread at the Trenton, and hits!
Tama attempts to disengage, but the rain dampens the smoke generated by Kagero and both ships are hit, but they hit back...just not enough.
Can the Tama get back to fighter protection or will she blunder into more Allied task forces?

The dreaded Boise! 5 penetrating hits and only two deflected by armor!

One raid on Osaka that flew thru a Nick Sentai scored about 1000 VP for the loss of 14 bombers, the other 500 vp from small scale night raids which are unstoppable.

Fixed that for you ...
It wouldn't be dignified to have one of HIJM's CLs flopping around helplessly. Sinking on a proudly even keel is an acceptable fate for one of HIJM's ships.
