The British A22 tank has been annoying me for a while now and I can't remember the name. So I asumed I mixed the tanks up and it was an obscure tank. Now I couldn't wait any longer. I needed to see what obscure tank terje dug up so I looked at the internet. I turns out it wasn't an obscure tank after all and I need some memory training. How I could forget it after all those computer games with the A22 tank and its famous name eludes me. [&:]

Q2: He was made President 4 times in an election. No other President served more than 2 terms and I belive it was traditional for the president to step down after the second term. I am sure that the change in the constitution was to put a limit on the terms a President may serve.

He was elected for the third time indeed. And you arer right, up to FDR it was tradition not to serve more than two terms. The amendments states that noone shall be elected more than twice, but serving < half a period were you take over (aka Truman) does not count towards this, making it possible to be president for 10 years.

FDR won the elections 1932, 1936, 1940 and 1944 and served as the President of the Unitet States for over 12 years (the years 1933-1945).

I'll guess about 4000 Allied ships were sunk in the Atlantic. I have a vague memory of 4000-6000 Allied merchant ships sunk worldwide. I'm assuming the Atlantic includes the Caribbean and Arctic convoys.

I've got another question...what happened just off the coast of Borneo in April 1945 that was significant with regard to weapons development?

Good guess but homing torpedoes had been in use for well over a year (by the Kriegsmarine first).

Apparently Japanese shipping was sunk by a SWOD Mk.9 Bat radar-guided glide bombs dropped by PB4Y-2B Privateers. Apart from radar gun-laying (which is a slightly different thing) as far as I know this was the first time a weapon used radar guidance successfully. Other firsts...first kill by an air-launched, internally guided weapon and by one with it's own radar set (not just a receiver)?. The German anti-ship missiles and bombs were manually guided.

The details are somewhat hazy however, with conflicting reports about destroyers and freighters being sunk. The Wikipedia entry...

Q3: I think the British 'Firefly' was an upgunned version of the Sherman, but it's been a long time since I got Crescendo of Doom.

Q1: I cheated and looked in Wikipedia. I thought it had had something to do with a proposed leader being sick at the time; maybe that was an earlier command shuffle and was why it didn't become Wavell, who went on to a command in India instead. Note that doesn't answer the question.

General Gott was in there correctly, I just didn't want to answer the question that way. I think Wikipedia is fine for simple facts like that; given it's structure the accuracy can only improve over time. But when it comes to, say, politically charged history like Arab-Israeli relations, look out.
