RE: Nomonhan Redux: Seydlitz (Japan) vs. MBatch729 (Allies)
Turn 31, January 6, 1942.
Yet again, I have failed to totally destroy the 111th region fortress in hex 113,43. It is holding up the advance of my large force. My opponnent sent some armored units into the hex, pushing the odds down to 4 to 1 but I defeat them and yet again all units retreat except for the fortress unit. I am glad that the Chinese do not have any of these fortress units.

RE: Nomonhan Redux: Seydlitz (Japan) vs. MBatch729 (Allies)
On the air war, I kept my bombers out of the sky during the day again, allowing them to heal up while my fighters try to whittle down his fighter force. I also notice a distinct increase in his offensive air operations during the turn.

Here is an overview of the strategic weather picture. I need better flying weather to be effective up north, and that won't happen until March.

If it's static unit, it cannot retreat, only surrender or get annihilated. If it passes experience and leadership checks against surrender, you'll have to attack until it does not or is annihilated.
If this is not a bug, then the fact that you quote must be what the problem is. I also share your thought and that is why I haven't turned in a bug report yet, but I am starting to wonder. You would think that the unit would die.
it´s just the same as it always was in WITP. Static units or units outside of a base without a retreat path take forever to kill off. Just keep on attacking, you´re inflicting horrendous losses anyway.
RE: Nomonhan Redux: Seydlitz (Japan) vs. MBatch729 (Allies)
Drop a para company on it and it will fall like Eben did in belgium [:'(]
RE: Nomonhan Redux: Seydlitz (Japan) vs. MBatch729 (Allies)
I have been catching up with latest news this afternoon. As said on the other thread very good AAR.
Personally going to use a lot of info when I get around to start my training campaign with Allied AI.
The russian campaign seems to be heating up nicely. I hope you are aware that russians recieve quite a few solid ground combat units in february/march time frame? I do not have the game loaded but I think it around 1000av points with solid artillery/armour.
I mean these guys can really hurt your troops.
Oh, those static fortress units are stubborn. Keep on hitting it few more times and it will vanish. Dave encountered few of them on our previous game with witp and had the same results.
Very intresting to see whether you can cut the southern part (vladivostok area) and thus start the push towards north. I mean if isolated it is same as death sentence. I would assume your opponent will start pulling units out if he notice this.
Eventhough you might not have killed 1000 aircraft here I think the airwar has been on your side so far.

RE: Nomonhan Redux: Seydlitz (Japan) vs. MBatch729 (Allies)
Thanks for the comments Aztez.
I dread the arrival of his reinforcements, but I figure that with my units moving northward I can tie them up for quite a while. As long as I can keep them from taking the train to the Vladivostok front then I should be able to finish off south, then roll up the rail line to the north. I have already penetrated the rail line with a stack of units north of the swamp.
He has seen this and I already see the reaction as he is sending troops west from his mid-coastal areas. I am pretty sure that he is worried that I am going to cut off his supply, which is exactly what I want to do.
I am going to take some time when I get the turn back to troll through my units and leaders and get those sorted out. Ketza is right to a degree...I am getting sloppy and have units from different commands working together in the same hex. There are three different commands in Korea at start (Kwangtung, 4th fleet, 5th fleet) and I need to straighten these out for the coming combat.
Beyond that, I think that I am going to recover my air units and lower the tempo with them until I get a turn with a favorable weather forecast in the region. Then I will hammer him as hard as I can.

Turn 32, Jan 7, 1942..............
The turn started off with my standard nightly air raids on Vladivostok port and other Russian facilities. You may not kill as much, but you do inflict some damage with a much lower risk to the bombers. This should help me continue to gain experience for the crews without worrying about high loss rates or lack of fighter escort.
