As Ktonos is one of the better players it would be fun to get some info on how the game against Fafnir developed...

Sorry for late response, I was in vacation for most of August, with minimal internet access.

I never had a chance. I think my game went more or less in a copy-paste as yours vs Fafnir. Axis made an early invasion of France, followed by an August successful Sea Lion. From there on it was a slippery slope. Game was over several months before 1943, but we agreed to play out the US invasion. In the end the Axis took Washington DC for the win.

Fafnir knows how to uber-optimise readiness resulting in almost every single combat being a massacre. As soon as I saw his unupgraded panzers shattering French armies fully entrenched in cities I knew this was over. These early victories with minimal casualties granded a higher than usual NM which in turn later further boosted the optimization.

There are lots of suggestions to change the tournament. I can make 1 which awards more for a lower-ranked player beating a higher ranked player. Let me know what you all think. I don't have the inclination to mess with it more than that. If someone else would like to take over and modify the tournament based on suggestions made in July "Have at it."

No luck in the world can save me... It's not even 1940 and Fafnir is on the road to Paris. Benelux was taken in the first 4 turns of the game. The US has to build fortifications around Washington ASAP

I have accepted Fafnir's challenge, and so I can kill some of his units and have the upper-hand in at least some part of the game, I have chosen Axis. They may only be Poles and Frenchmen, but I am going to cause some casualties before I am defeated!

Not sure why the best player wants to play the worst, but he responded first and I am a man of my word. I have a desperate plan, and I am going to go out with guns blazing, not meekly turtled around my capital.

Fafnir is quite the gentleman. He will most likely still beat the pants off of you like he did me but he is enjoyable to play with.

And you have good company, me, at the bottom. And I learned a lot form my game with him. Although apparently not enough.

Well, I am a little saddened to hear that Fafnir is a gentleman, as I just did something to him that was not very gentleman-like. Normally I do not use the kind of dastardly tactics that I am employing in this game, but when you are playing an unbeatable player, the gloves come off.

I am resurrecting an old strategy that hasn't been seen around here in a long, long time. I had to dust-off and delve deeply into the Book of Black Arts to come up with this one, and it is pure evil. It should at least disrupt his game-plan, if nothing else.

Looking at the repots you seem to be a master of sorcery summoning up 1200MPP for diplomacy.
But as it goes with black magic, this will fire back on the evil one sooner or later.
It was indeed in the old Battlefront days of SC that somebody tried this in one of my games.
