Did the landing at Uruppo trigger an auto counter-bombardment by the defenses?  If so, what's there?

P.S.  You tricksy man, you!

No. At Uruppu there are only 2 base forces and one constr BN.

Paramushiro has 25k men
Onnekotan 37k
Shimushiri 13k...

Tonight the whole operation, its motivations and its planning will be described in details.

Wow! The implecations are enormious ! [&o] Uruppu Jiima and Shirmushri-Jima are both within B-17 range of industry [forget B-29's!], and both are buildable to level 6 & 7 respectively. B-29's will have a field day over the skies of Nippon ...[X(]

That made me think if Rader got upset by a few B-29's in Russia raining hell on earth in "Taming the Bear" .. .this has got to be pretty discouraging ...depending how rapidly this unfolds you might have completly thrown him off his game .. way to go!

Now the Kami's ... it will be interesting ...

If GJ has achieved surprise, which seems certain now, rader is going to be in the position of trying to draw to an inside straight.  Until he can pull his combat ships and carriers up to NoPac, he's going to have to commit all his air.  He'll get in some licks, but he'll take horrific losses.  Rather than drawing to that inside straight, he's much more likely to break his own back trying.

A word of caution about strategic bombing - it is much more difficult in practice than in theory and in real life.  That's going on my own experience and that of Bullwinkle as posted about a year ago.  Things may have changed since then, but if not, strategic bombing isn't as effective as it was in WitP and in real life.

While strategic bombing will be important and will bring GJ alot of pleasure ([:)]), the real game-changer here is going to be the battles fought over the taking and possession of bases.  Rader is going into battle strong (except in the air) and most likely will come out weak.  The surprise achieved by GJ is the reason.  Rader is gonna poop his britches.

Relax guys...we are not 100% positive about strategical and tactical surprise. It seems so to me, but Rader is an old fox and he may be waiting for me...

So let's keep calm and focused

...and, untill the SUDDENLY HAIRY isn't completely unfold in the details, don't be so sure about my final goals...[:'(]

I can post some IJFB complaints about Dutch LB's smacking Oil Refineries and Oil Storage in Java '42 [;)] and that is not B-17E's or B-29's in '44 ... but I would have to look what version this game is being played ... maybe it is a version thing ...

At the very least, looking at this there are a lot of airfields and ports in Northern Nippon exposed to attack. Alfred or Nemo might comment as this develops ... It will be a lot of fun watching this unfold and quite awhile before all the bases are overbuilt ... if in fact that is GreyJoy's plan ..

Oh, rest assured, personally I am careful not to draw any definite conclusions until you reveal your plans in detail. It could very well be that you are trying to draw Rader to the north while still intending to strike in the DEI. But I think that this attack is real.
Since I am not Rader, I am not worried. Just eager to know your plan.

Hi all,

details will be unfold completely tonight.

For the moment the only thing i can tell you is that the above operation is called "Suddenly Hairy" and that will be the most risky thing i've ever tried in this game. It's completely based on full surprise and timing.

More to follow.... sorry for having kept the details secret till now...

Mar 22, 23 1944

While the air struggle continue in SOPAC (with the japs evcuating Rabaul AF) and while the I US Corp clears what remains of the enemy at Choiseul, while Calcutta is conquered by the 7th AUS Division, on the 23rd of March an unknown number of american carriers launched a series of air strikes against japanese shippings near Onnekotan Jiima, sinking 3 SCs and 4 xAKs.
More bombers took off and arrived over Uruppu Jiima, attacking the troops stationed there.
The american Carriers were completely undetected and japanese forces seem to have been caught unaware.
During the afternoon of 23rd elements of the 37th US Division, along with NZ and US tanks were unloaded unmolested at Uruppu.
The invasion has begun.

Hmm...aren't you activating Kamikazes with this invasion (unless you have done that already)?

Wow, beautiful move. Don't know if it is a feint or the real thing or a combination of both. Perhaps the total goal is just these couple of bases. Valuable possessions indeed. One would be hard pressed to hide the presence of ones Capital ships if they were in the home islands. You should have some pretty long recon stuff at this point. Heck, what did you do with that handful of super-long range Wildcats? Lets see what we have here..............elements of the 37th US Division, along with NZ and US tanks. Good stuff, but perhaps not great stuff. I haven't been following close enough to discern where your very best divisions are. I know the Australians are in Indian. Where are those Marine divisions? The single thing I would look for here is the presences of Helldivers. If there are no Helldivers than the Fast CV's are not in the initial attacking force. Ambush????? Supporting something elsewhere perhaps? Most troublesome.

Yes, that will be a problem as the Japanese pilots are not much good for anything else at this point

Well done. Now Nemo's even more cryptic than usual post makes sense. [:D]

PS - Dan, how many points for "cryptic?"

PPS - this is brought to us, at least in part, because Rader allowed GJ to know exactly where KB was for months at a time, while conversely GJ kept his CVs hidden.

This is amazing! I love that you're such a tricksy bastard and got everyone (including me) all hot and bothered about your other plans, not mentioning the real ones. Makes sense really. One has to come into one's own by making one's own decisions.

Now, if I were in Japan, I would be more worried about you getting two or three of those islands (you are getting two or three, right?) than excited about the kamis. They'll hurt, but only half as many will hurt, because now his forces are split across the Pacific.

Plus, major defenses have to be built up on Hokkaido and Sakhalin while much of his free mobile forces are trudging through Burmese jungles. I'm curious what his email response will be to this one.
