No contact for the second search. (Axis 7, Allies 9)

Impulse #8 (Axis)

No strategic bombing.

Germany, and Italy, ground strike two hexes in Normandy with one LND2, two LND3. One of the missions is escorted by one FTR2.

Axis has two FTR2 available for counter-interception.

CW has 4 units available for interception. Will any fly?

Fighters from attacked hexes react.

7 factor intercept the hex with more bombers, 6 factor the other hex.

7 factor lands to Rouen.

6 factor lands to UK Dover, unless 7 factor has been shot down before, then it lands to Rouen.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.

Italy send up their 4-strngth fighter to support the Italian bomber. Germany use their 7-strngth fighter in support of the two German bombers.

Begin with the western of the two air combats.

Allies won the first air combat.

Can change the Italian loss to the fighter if Allies so prefer.

In the second air combat Allies begin by rolling 7, and the German front fighter is aborted.

Axis counters with 13, and no result. A second round ensues.

One of the enduring controversies of D-Day and the Normandy campaign - one of the most tantalizing what-ifs for military historians and armchair generals - is how the Germans positioned their armored forces to meet the Allied invasion of June 6, 1944. During the months before the Allies landed, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel argued for placing the panzers (the core of German strength) as close to the beaches as possible; he believed that the campaign would be won or lost in the first forty-eight hours, that the panzers needed to be brought to bear as early as possible, and that Allied airpower would prevent armored forces located farther inland from reaching the beachhead quickly. Other German generals argued for a central panzer reserve hidden near Paris, which could mount a massive counterattack; this was how tanks tended to be used on the Eastern Front, and after all, the Germans did not know just where the Allies would attack. Often indecisive, Hitler split the difference, giving Rommel control of three panzer divisions, holding four in reserve inland (under Hitler’s personal control), and moving three to the south of France. On D-Day, while Hitler slept and was slow to release the reserves, only one panzer division - the 21st, in Rommel’s group - was able to counterattack the Allies! This lone division reached the channel, splitting Juno and Sword Beaches!!!, but committed to the battle too late, and unsupported, it had to withdraw at day’s end

Full shore bombardment, thank you.

When asking about ground support, please let me know what planes Axis have to intercept.

No more Axis planes can be commited.

I came to conclusion that Allies better win this combat or things look real bad. We send almost everything:

Fighters
8 factor in front, followed by CVP

Bombers (from first to last)
LND3
B-17E
Hurricane
B-17G

We target Axis fighter.

All planes return where they start, except FTR2 lands to SE of Plymouth.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
