Amboina closed down for business. Hmmm and Hmmm! I didn't realise Chuck had build up the Boela island. Nasty suprise which does not hinder my operations though. The invasion TF will arrive its target tomorrow.
I have moved up Betty's because I spotted some Allied surface vessels north of Port Moresby.

Allied 4E monsters continue to bomb our bases around the map.
The enemy units at Kaigan did not launch any strikes. Weird.. maybe they are short on supplies or Chuck is having 2nd thoughts.

Other NEWS
Allied 4E monsters continue to bomb our bases around the map.
The enemy units at Kaigan did not launch any strikes. Weird.. maybe they are short on supplies or Chuck is having 2nd thoughts.

This was definately a mixed bag. Firstly my airforce strikes againts Namlea were grounded due to bad weather. Also the strikes againts Boela were unable to closedown the airfield as I was hoping for.
This carnage was expected though and I really don't mind since I need this base to regain control in the Southern Pacific.
I was also hoping that those surface combat vessels would have been hit hard by Betty's. Well.. Betty's did launch but hit nothing.. so that is bad luck indeed.
The good news is that I did land some + 20 000 combat troops already into Amboina so the base should be doomed indeed.
I did also land at Babo. These invasions were uncontested.

RE: November 1942 begins
Well, I've been AWOL for 7 weeks now but it certainly seems that you are now well capable of handling the Soviets. Kudos Aztez. I think you seem to really have taken the lessons of production, rotation etc to heart and it is showing. Soviet losses vis a vis yours are climbing and it looks like you should just outlast him ( which is sufficient since once you have the edge you can keep it forever if you are cautious ).
So, congrat.
So, congrat.

RE: November 1942 begins
Hi Nemo,
Nice to see that everything is ok! Hmmm... 7 weeks AWOL could result to severe punishment if you were to be court martialed! [:D][:D]
Anyway... PC troubles can be frustrating. I did bought myself an christmas present this year. Brand new Acer Laptop with all the goodies! [:D] ...needless to say the "better half" was not too pleased with my shopping spree.
Thanks for the kind words also. To be honest this game would have toasted by now had you not put a lot of insights into Japanese economy/war machine. Too bad i gave Chuck many months head start!
Yeah. Admiral Edition is brewing on the horizon too. It looks absolutely great and personally cannot wait it to be released in the summer. In the meantime this war will continue until there is no point to continue.
Russian airforce has been dealt with an huge blow. However this was costly in terms of pilots, aircraft and engines. (That is what you get when you go to war without decisive power from the get go) ...Lesson learned though, despite the the costly adventure/campaign in North this needed to be done. This time around it was not any half arsed effort.
I'am rotating fighters into China for training. Allthough Southern Russia will become an training ground by itself now. Too bad I was unable to hold the road north of Vladivostok. Oh, well need push right through it now. [;)]
I also concur that is sad to see Pauk's AAR stopped because of some individuals who assault the players personally. Not nice thing to see at all.
...now time to regroup and gather strenghts. I will deal with Ctangus somewhere else because I can release quite a lot of airpower out of Russia. Bulk of these guys need rest/training but that is already in motion. One thing I will not do is to go head to head againts Corsairs... that is suicide. Otheriwise road is open! [:)]

Those AP's were cripples from the Amboina invasion TF's. Basically those ships would have sunk whether hit or not.
I think we can assume soon that Namlea will be out of action. Our intel indicates that there are 12 000 enemy troops garrisoning the base. Mostly supporting personnel though.
I did rest my troops at Amboina last turn. Also next turn I will hit the base with my LBA bombers. I don't think those troops can hold on for long.
Other NEWS
More fighters are withdrawn from the frontline action. Some 100 fighters are ordered to be moved into SRA area by the Airforce HQ.
The allied bombing campaign at Solomons is intensive. Wewak, Rabaul, Hollandia, Aitape and Admiralty Island bombed heavily. Propably a sign of an upcoming invasion either towards Rabaul or futher up New Guinea.

Ok. The russian airforce has definately withdrawn into Ulan Bator region. That is good news and no I need keep things as such so he cannot start training their experience.
As for Vladivostok. Well... you can see the above. It wohn't be easy base to capture but I doubt it will impossible as long as I have air superiority.

In Norhern China 20 enemy units showed near Kaigan. It seems Chinese offensive is about to start in full steam.[:-]

RE: November 1942 begins
A couple of things - now that I've read up on what has happened since November....
1. He won't go for Rabaul. As part of the prep before taking this on I read all of his posts on the forum ( and I do mean ALL ). He is cautious and will isolate Rabaul by working up the eastern coast of New Guinea.
2. He will move up that coast slowly BUT very, very methodically.
3. If you try to hold him too far south in New Guinea he will just overwhelm you before you have fortified and supplied the base appropriately. Remember better to cede ground to him now than to reinforce it and lose the ground AND the troops you need to hold him farther north.
Overall though it seems to me that if you can resist trying to fight him too far forward you can build a really, really strong defensive perimeter with many mutually supporting bases, excellent training opportunities and a great immunity to attrition by his fighter sweeps. It is actually quite an interesting situation as you will have a strong land-based defence and a massive fleet in being. IF you can avoid the temptation to fight too far forward I think you will actually be able to hold out for a very long time indeed, much longer than you currently think. You'll need to prevent him from basing bombers out of China though obviously by destroying all the Chinese resource centres but now that the Soviet Union is pretty much taken care of you can focus on China.

Ok. Weather... ##%##%#! [:@][:D] Now that those bombers took off well they flew unescorted! [X(] ...talk about kamikaze mentality. The weather model in Witp really leaves a lot to be desired for. Talk about bad dice rolls.
Too bad I didn't get 2:1 odds in the last assault. Just 2 levels of fortifications down and it could have been much better!

Ok. Weather...
Other NEWS
I hauling resources from where ever I can. This is the real bottleneck of Japanese economy.
Allied 4E's, Divebombers and 2E bombers are having an field day around the map. Nothing to stop these onslaughts at the moment.
December 1942
Hi to all. No regular combat replays this time around. Instead I'am going to post an screenshot from the major operational areas.
Unfortunately were little good news to tell. Allied P38's and 4E monsters are killing our troops.
Russia...

Christmas eve 1942
This is an text based recap of how things have developed since last update.
I will post end of the months screenshot once again with graphical updates.
Game date is 24th of December 1942
Southern Pacific
US troops have captured the vital base of Rabaul. Chuck did land around 50 000 men and my defenders without any supplies after constant 4E bomber raids.
I did try assault the invasion fleet with high alltitude Betty and Nelll strikes. Unfortunately these did not help much. (The bad thing was that I couldn't provide any escorts) These raids were unorganized and 85% of these bombers refused to fly out. Had these guys flown together I think we might have bagged few US carriers offshore at Rabaul.
So Rabaul is now lost and the allied continue their upwards New Guinea. I have had to reorganize my defenses in this area due to this defeat.
DEI
I have tried to keep Namlea and Boela shutdown. Well... this seems impossible. We have scored several aribase runway and supply hits but the allied aircraft just seem to keep popping up and fly out organized strikes even from the damaged airfields!!! [:(][:@]
I do not know how he does it.... Namlea is now "closed" but Boela is yet again operational!
Also P38F's are like deathstars in the CHS mod! Hell, I did fly out 50 fighters (+70 exp. pilots) againts them and I did loose 40 Zero's and downed 1 P38F fighter and damaged 2 more! Talk about immune system! [8|][X(] Actually very depressing results.
Burma
Last few days have seen Japanese airforce comeback in Thailand. This is the only positive news since my fighters did well againts Hurricanes and B25 bombers. Actually seems to be the only thing I can fight againts RAF with some success.
I wonder whether I can hold the line at Bangkok though. Next few turns will tell us much more.
Russia
Very quiet. He is still rebuilding his airforce at Northern Russia. I have an feeling though that he will be back sooner than later.
Other NEWS
My aircraft engine pools are reduced substantially. Allied side is keeping up the pressure and my economy cannot keep up.
I'am moving some bombers into Atolls too since allied transports and naval forces are expected to pop up anywhere anytime.
I'am also losing way too much resource points. Chuck is bombing resource centers everywhere and to be honest noway of stopping these raids. [8|]

RE: Christmas eve 1942
Very very interesting reading.[:D]
Please, this is not my intention make a severe critic about your strategy in this game, only my opinion.
I think you make a lot of errors in the first weeks:
1-Embark in a game without proper knowledge of the japanese production. It's vital increase engines (mainly Nakajimas) x2 or x3. This a must, FIRST ENGINES, AFTER AIRCRAFT. When the engines pools are full, then increase AC prod. Many more when i see you decide to engage with the allies in all-out air offensive in all theatres.
2-Leave vital areas to allied control many, many months. You must take ASAP Palembang, Toboali, Kuching, Brunei, Balikpapan, Tarakan, Makassar, and Amboina. You need those resources/oil centers ASAP. And after you MUST go at once to Timor lsland and rest of Malaya to get more resources and isolate JAVA.
3-Not take Port Moresby. The allied control of PM does mean you will lost New Guinea.
4-Not take Rangoon. If the allies control Rangoon, you will lost ALL BURMA.
Well, besides, go to war against the Russians was a totally crazy decision but i supose you make this decision to get a game more "funny".[:)]
In conclusion, i read many "Ouch" and some few "Nice" in this AAR. Anyway, as japanese fanboy, my best luck to you!!

RE: Christmas eve 1942
Hello guys! Sorry for the lack of updates. It has been busy times RL. A lot of stuff happening at work etc.
fremen: The comments are much appreciated. Actually downloaded a lot your artwork past weekend. Awesome job.
As for you analysis. Well I must admit that all the points are valid and correct. If things would restart I would do a lot of things diffrently. At least it has been a learning experience for sure.
I doubt we will see 1945's and 1946 but I do intend to fight until there is nothing left to fight with. I guess that is what Japanese would call bushido spirit! [:D]
Again I must Nemo since we would have been in much deeper trouble had he not kindly help sort a lot of stuff out.
As for the Russian adventure... Yes, I must admit it was/is crazy thing to do but wanted to do something diffrent and as said there really have been no love lost between the Finns and Russians in History. Oh.. this adventure is not complete disaster and who knows I might still pull out an suprise in this region. Fingers crossed. Allthough, to be honest it has "freezed" a lot of units which would be better used elsewhere at the time being.
...here goes an brief update.
Game date is 3rd of January 1943
Russia
Not much happening. Chuck is keeping his airforce far up in the North.
Just some recon planes flying out of Iman. He still have split his army in two at least. Group A is at Vladivostok and Group B is staying further up propably serving as an reserve army.
Burma
Quite a lot of action here. As stated I moved in Japanese Airforce into Bangkok.
In past week or so I did launch strikes againts Rangoon and Moulmein. This was actually an success. We did shot down a lot Hurricanes and P40E's. Propably around +200 fighters downed. Our losses have been around 100. Which I consider reasonable if not good.
These strikes have resulted Chuck leaving Rangoon and Moulmein. Currently it seems RAF is organizing at Dacca and Calcutta area. No fighters in Burma anymore.
Solomons & New Guinea
This is area is going from bad to worse!!!
At Rabaul our last resistance was wiped out. It hurt to lose the South Sea Detachment there.
Allied troops have seized Wewak, Dagua and Aitape. [8|][:(] These victories have come with minimal losses to the allies. Now Chuck has good bases even further up in the New Guinea area.
Admiralty Island and Kavieng might be the next targets.
Also he has now seized Apamama near Tarawa and it seems that he is building up the base with his engineer units.
China
Nothing significant to report. It seems that Chinese are satisfied with the current stand off.
I'am just moving more supplies into this huge land area.
DEI
We have had minor skirmished in the air above Boela. This base is still fully operational.
Allied 4E bombers flying out of Timor have kept hitting the resources at Kendari. Not good not good... but the BIGGEST dilemma at the moment is New Guinea and the question on how to evacuate/pull out troops from Kendari???? As said he has sizeable airfields at Timor!
Economy
(see the screenshot)
The engine situation is far from good. Allthough we still do have solid airforce since I can downgrade quite a few squadrons and thus release more "modern fighters" into the pools.

Hmmm! RAF strikes back! Good thing is that some P38F's were shot down but the bad news is that he did bring in so much firepower that I couldn't defend properly eventhough I had +350 fighters on 90% CAP!
The actual total of lost P38F's is now at around 180. Not enough since I think he can out produce the losses for time being.
Time withdraw temporarily into further South and regroup. The losses to the RAF & US Airforce have been around 400 aircraft in recent weeks. Unfortunately not enough either! [:-]
Other NEWS
Operation Sword did not prevail either. I had 2 Naval bombardmet TF's in orders to hit Boela. In support I had some +100 bombers. Well.. as things go with me... a) The bombardment did even scratch him b) My airforce refused to launch...! [8|] ...the good news is that Chuck did just launch couple of uncordinated strikes with Wildcats and Swordfish bombers... so the antaircraft fire from BB's was enough to distrubt those strikes. In the end I did loose 1 DD.
Kavieng was seized. Nothing to stop him doing so. Also, the deathstart BB's struck againts Admiralty Island once more. Yet again +1000 men disabled/killed on the ground. I can only wish for such results.

That totals to quite a few fighters/bombers/pilots destroyed.
I have no clue whether RAF can sustain such losses. Hopefully not and at least I'am hoping to accomplish some good news in these dark days.
At least these battles resulted to around 1:1 losses which I find it ok since it is 1943 already. I also want to give Chuck some action before he destroys me completely.
Other NEWS
Allied have seized the base at Admiralty Island near Rabaul. This invasion was covered by US CV's and mass LBA support. Actually nothing I could do to prevent this.
I did launch another strike againts Vladivostok. The result was not good. I did received 0:1 odds yet again with no fortifications lowered.
In China we encountered movement bug. Few Chinese units entered Peking and thus significantly prevented my resource flow. [8|] Chuck tried to move them out with temporary ceasefire but It did not work out. Now I'am forced to kill these enemy troops.
