Here´s another intel screen that could be of interest, the aircraft production of the Japanese Empire. We´ve got the ability to produce some 824 aircraft of different types, focussing on the two fighter types A6M2 Zero and Ki-43-Ic Oscar. We do have enough ac in the pool of both types as well as of every other ac needed. At the moment we have shut down some 185 factories, which means we are currently producing a bit more than 600 aircraft each month in total. At this rate we would build some 7000+ aircraft which would be less than were built in reality in Japan in 1942 according to I-net sources that show 8,861 Japanese aircraft built.

Of course we have streamlined production and the appearance of the Tojo which is still 11/42 will increase total production a bit. But by then we will have completely stopped producing the Oscar. I guess we won´t produce more than 8.000 aircraft this year, so about 10% less than were produced in reality. I´m happy about that as this at least doesn´t mean I´m building numbers of aircraft that are totally off.

after one day pause, we´re back in action... [8D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/08/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Madras , at 18,21

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27
Ki-21 Sally x 24
Ki-49 Helen x 31
Ki-46-II Dinah x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged
Ki-49 Helen: 2 damaged

Airbase hits 1
Runway hits 8

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 21000 feet

we only get 55 bombers to attack, that´s roughly 50% of the bombers at Yanam. We´ve got too many damaged bombers there and with those small numbers we can´t achieve much from that height with reduced bomb loads. Yanam is level 3 (39%) and it´s increasing by 7% each turn at the moment. We will take Hyderabad within the next three days I guess, this will give us another level 3(3) airfield, hopefully we will have it up to level 4 soon. To speed up the construction of the airfield at Hyderabad I will fly some Tabbies to Yanam to airlift eng rgts from Yanam to Hyderabad. Otherwise it takes two weeks to march there.

without KB in the area we wouldn´t be able to keep Madras´ airfields surpressed at all. Unfortunately KB will have to leave within the next couple of days due to being low on fuel. In the meantime we hopefully will have seized Hyderabad, half of the assault forces have arrived there today, the rest will follow tomorrow. In two days we will order a shock attack with some 1300 assault points which will probably take the base. At the moment we spot three Allied units defending Hyderabad. Open terrain, probably not many forts.

Miller now is killing off his troops, he probably wants to get rid of them to start rebuilding a lot of them somewhere in Australia. Here you can see why I think it´s not worth attacking Manila at all if there are more than 200 assault points at the base when you arrive as you will just wear down your troops and that´s not worth it IMO. As soon the Allied are reduced to Manila in your assault, just put a couple of second class units (NLF, SNLF, all those small Navy units) there to keep the Allied in place and move out your divs in good shape to attack another target. After six months of starving, the Allied assault value has completely melted away! [8D] I have ordered 200 assault points to move out to Bataan today to be shipped somewhere in the Pacific to garrison one of my bases of the second line of defense. Manila will be further be seen as a POW-camp!

our last surface combat TF in the area went in to bombard the base, I´m not really satisfied with the result as this was quite a force. And the CD at Madras seems to be far from knocked out as it landed a penetrating hit on CL Oi! I forgot to take Oi and Kitakami out of the TF before sending them to bombard the enemy stronghold. I had the light cruisers included in this TF as this was my primary surface combat TF and I wanted those torpedo carrying CLs launching their loads at an enemy surface combat TF if it would show up. Other than the 4 PTs that sunk one of my DDs nothing showed up though.

another try to kill off his own troops! [:D] even one of my small NLF units would be enough to hold the base now... I will keep those troops here though as this seems more realistic to hold back those Allied troops...

this is the last attack from KB´s bombers, the carriers are retiring to Rangoon to replenish. Hopefully we will only need them to escort supply convoys to India (if we don´t capture enough supplies [;)]). The ongoing fight of 5.000 av would be really hard to supply if we don´t seize any supplies. Fuel is also a big issue, we don´t have enough fuel to keep the whole IJN supplied at Rangoon. I´m bringing in a lot and keep it on the ships and unload them slowly when my TFs return as otherwise all the fuel is transferred out again by the smart AI. When all my TFs have returned to Rangoon they will have sucked up some 150.000 fuel!!! [X(]

At the moment I´m using my TKs and AKs to bring oil and resources to Japan and on the way back to Singapore they are carrying fuel.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

This is a VERY important happening! Not just that we were able to capture the so important second airfield in India we also have forced two Indian divisions, a UK bgd and an Indian base force to retreat South! The enemy has lost 129 points for ground losses today so those units really took a beating! This was the perfect terrain for my tanks and the enemy simply got overrun it seems. The TK rgts are in very good shape but only have 25% of the supplies needed at the moment, the inf div that also took part in the battle for Hyderabad got shot up and suffered 10% of the troops disabled. My TK rgts were set to shock attack / pursue and are now sitting with the retreating Allied units one hex South West on the rail. They will shock attack again tomorrow even though they are far from being optimal supplied. The Allied units should have lost 100% of their supply due to the retreat and should also have a very high disruption. I expect to kick them further back. I´m having a hr for myself of only using TK rgt/div to shock attack/PURSUE, all other units are not allowed to pursue.

Unfortunately the base only shows some 3500 supplies so we haven´t captured a lot of supplies here. Tabbies have transferred to Yanam flying an eng rgt to Hyderabad tomorrow to start building up the airfield. The division is 100% prepped for Hyderabad and will take position here for r&r and to hold back any Allied counteroffensive-attempts. We have a special base force here already and the bombers from Yanam transferred to this base already. A Zero daitai and a Helen sentai was transferred from Burma to Yanam.

This was an important victory and if we can force those Allied inf units to retreat a couple of times this will totally wreck them and should be a hard blow for the Allied defense of India.

At Madras we have spotted 13 units with over 30.000 troops already, could be a hard nut to crack and perhaps we will just siege the base.

As both Hyderabad and Yanam are four hexes from Madras we get combined strikes out of both bases now. We get over 100 bombers over the enemy base but only achieve an awful hit rate... going in lower is no option I fear as flak is too heavy at Madras, hopefully hit rate will get better when we launch from level 4 airfield in 7-14 days... if Madras gets operational again this could mean trouble. 3000 assault points should enter the town within the next four days.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

yes! The enemy forces that were forced to retreat out of Hyderabad are again hit hard even though our adjusted av was horrible. But so was the enemy´s adjusted av, probably both sides were hit due to being nearly or totally out of supply. Our troops got supplies at the end of this turn though and the tanks are now sitting with the four enemy troops one hex further South. Shock attack tomorrow, then the enemy will retreat into a mountaineous hex East of Bangalore. I´m thinking about dropping a para rgt into Bangalore, the one that took Yanam at the beginning of our invasion. The paras are still sitting there, 100% combat ready.

I´m not sure yet as this could then mean that the enemy troops will have to retreat into the mountains North of Madras and I´m not sure I like that. I would preferre to kill them off at a base they can´t further retreat.

Naval bombardment of Madras, at 18,21 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

CA Chokai
CA Maya, Shell hits 2
CA Takao

Allied ground losses:
566 casualties reported
Guns lost 9
Vehicles lost 4

Runway hits 9
Port hits 4
Port supply hits 2

CD still fires back and we seem to hit less with every attack. Can only hope this is due to the enemy units (support units) are becoming more and more disabled. When looking at the flak fire they put up then I can´t confirm that...

Day Air attack on Chengtu , at 41,29

Aircraft Attacking:
20 x Ki-49 Helen bombing at 11000 feet

we have spotted over 100 enemy aircraft at Chengtu recently and decided to hit the base at max range. Unfortunately we don´t torch as many ac on the ground as we have thought and we lose 4 bombers in this attack...

hit rate stays horrible, I could halt those attacks as they don´t seem to make any sense... attacking at 16.000 ft would result in my bomber sentais being 50%+ damaged though...

bad news, bad news... [:(] There is a UK division, an Indian TK btn (the one that was earlier forced to retreat), a couple of UK art rgts and base forces at Madras, totalling 600+ assault points. This will really be a tough nut to crack. I´m just no fan of urban warfare, this can wreck your divisions in no time. I don´t even want to think about the fort levels yet. We will use 150 bombers from Yanam to keep on attacking the airfield (with hopefully better results soon) and the bombers from Hyderabad will switch over to ground attacks, hopefully this time they will concentrate their attacks only on the UK division. I guess when I would like to see only one unit being attacked they will disperse their attacks! [;)]

If the UK div gets disrupted enough I see a chance to take the base without too many casualties. When we will start the assault we will have some 3.700 assault points to attack which would be a 6:1 troop ratio against the enemy. I have high hopes that my tk rgts will be a major factor, although tanks should not perform good in urban assaults.

this sub is stationed some 600 miles East of Canton Island. So what are US carriers doing in this region? I have allerted all my troops and anti shipping daitais as this could be another attempt to attack one of my atolls, although I really doubt it as this would be just far too early with far too few CVs I guess. Perhaps it´s just a high value convoy that is going to Australia that gets CV escort. We will see...

Thanks!

Miller and I were on holiday and we did get a lot of turns done and as it is now, a turn only takes perhaps 20 min if you want to do it carefully as there isn´t much happening.

Well, Madras looks good as a second POW camp.[:D]

Unfortunately Madras is far more important to me than Manila is. I don´t need Manila at all, I really do need Madras. Without Madras I can´t surpress Ceylon and Ceylon´s airfields are threatening my supply line and I don´t want to keep KB in this area forever, not to think about how much fuel I need to have KB on station all the time as KB also means one or two surface combat TFs around and also ASW TFs. At the moment Rangoon has no more fuel, it takes 3 weeks to bring in the next bigger fuel delivery.

Not to forget that Madras itself is also dangerous, not that I´m afraid of the troops breaking out there (one bgd is easily enough to keep them in place) but again, the airfield is a major threat. Those Wellingtons can lay waste to all my bases in this region and as it stands now, I can´t surpress the airfield with my medium bombers as the flak is just too strong (amazing eh, there is the Madras base force and an RAF base force only and they´re putting up flak like five dozen ZSU 23).

You see, without Madras my India adventure is in danger of failing, even though the more or less destruction of this UK div and the two Indian bgd with my tanks was a major success already.

Then, it's gonna be bloody.

OTOH, one UK div in Burma, and one in India.  There're only indian divs & brigades left at other places, and a few tanks.  Why don't you go east, to Calcutta area, or north to Bombay/Karachi ?  there're more supply centers there, and more bases to defend from your assault.[&:]

(I'm still not used to the weird geography of WitP's map - I'm losing my north...)

I AM going North! [;)] I have 2000 assault points marching towards Bombay at the moment. There are four reported enemy units and it´s again an urban hex, so no easy target. Moving East isn´t necessary at the moment, it would just further disperse my troop strenght and Í´m still going with my plan of attacking one or two targets with more or less brute force than to attack 5 or 6 targets with insufficient troops that then could get wrecked. I´m not that much in a hurry, I know that the Allied get reinforcements in India but not thousands of assault points every month so I won´t focus on too many targets at once.

Most important target is Madras at the moment, followed by bases that can provide me with supply.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 103 encounters mine field at Gili Gili (56,94)

Japanese Ships
AK Ganges Maru, Mine hits 1

Ganges Maru hits a VH2, looks like a Dutch mine layer sub visited Gili Gili. The small AK is nowhere near danger of sinking, needs a couple of weeks in the repair yards though and lost 30% of the supply it was carrying...

I fear we have to go in lower sooner than later. But this will totally wreck my bomber force. The flak of two Allied base forces is just too strong, even after half a dozen succesful naval bombardments... [8|] This is already showing me for what I can use my bombers in future: naval attacks only! Attacking bases is suicide considering the power of Allied flak... [:(]

more and more Allied troops are pooring into Sian! Miller is making a big mistake here... no need to put all those troops into Sian, he would be better off defending the surroundings also, he needs at least one supply path. At the moment I´m working on surrounding the base with sufficient force to block any attempts to open the supply line again. This will mean the death of over 145.000 troops and it´s the biggest concentration of trapped troops so far. As soon as they will run out of supply they are lost... the first couple of deliberate attacks will be absolutely bloody for my troops though...

nearly all my troops have entered Madras but I can´t attack! Yes, we have supply issues!!!! [X(] So far I´ve brought over 150.000 supplies to India thinking that this would be sufficient to at least fight an ongoing war for two months, I was wrong again. You don´t need 75.000, not 150.000, well, you probably need 400-500.000 supplies! [X(][X(]

I have no idea where all my supplies have gone to, but my bases show some 30.000 supplies at the moment alltogether and none is going to my troops at Madras as the bases are already showing "orange" supply. My troops at Madras are at 50% supply at the moment, an attack would be suicide! God damn, I can´t afford this supply demands. I´m desperately trying to bring fuel and supplies to Rangoon, both are more than a big problem! KB has left Rangoon with only 80% fuel levels and another supply convoy is also heading towards Yanam, bringing again some 35.000 supplies there. Hopefully that will be enough to launch the attack on Madras. But that´s it then, it will take weeks to see the fuel and supply stocks at Rangoon meet more or less sufficient levels again. I totally underestimated the demands of both of them, I wonder what I have done in my other games, probably I was lucky enough to capture huge amounts so quickly that I didn´t notice the huge demands of my troops and ships.
