Decisions, Decisions... I am trying to figure out whether to try to just trap the Imperal Guards troops or the whole stack of what I can get. Dacca falls today. NJP Moved all but 1 unit out so he could scope my AV. He has 31 units at Comilla that may or may not be moving. Attacking across the river into an unkown base is risky but I cannot afford the 2 weeks to go the long way around.

Who thought stacking would apply in an open hex???? Well, it does. I am rocking 105,000 + troops in the Dacca hex and I have 40,000 troops that want to be in here in 2 turns. That would be 30K overstacked. If I move the big stack toward Dacca and swing the smaller stack around to the right it will be on the banks of the river waiting for the Imperial Guards stack when they emerge from the woods and head for the coast in about 8 days.lk

I am just scared about being overstacked when I cross the river as the troops are going to face disablement anyway.

The mission to capture Nadi/Suva is progressing and the last USMC regiment is being loaded at Christmas for transport to Pago Pago. I have warships moving in from Perth to assist in defending the landings. No sign of the KB since it's cruise up north at Adak Island.

I am going for it. The large stack in Dacca will be moving across the river to Comilla and shock attacking in 4 turns. The smaller stack behind it will enter Dacca in 4 turns and then decide what to do. It is bringing 200 AV to allow Dacca to be fully serviced for planes.

Lets see what NJP does. His best shot is likely to take the back roads and re-take Imphal and sneak out through the jungle. It takes a third of his army out for a couple months but is definitely the safe route. I am moving troops out of Imphal to the next town over to attempt to take a working airfield. Imphal is below 90 due to paratroopers but I think it needs to be as low as 75 to allow even the most basic air functions. I have no idea what it needs to be at to allow for the landing of troops.

Warships are headed up the coast. I dont know how to handle them yet. They are either bringing reinforcements or planning on evacuating troops or both. Moving subs to interdict. It looks like about 5 cruisers with destroyer escort plus some sort of transport group. It is saying AMC/TK's but that is not very likely. I have about 6 destroyers in a task force heading for Calcutta to see what NJP's search is like between Ceylon and Malaya and it is looking good right now. The force wont reach Calcutta for days but once it does I can use it to harass his naval forces.

I am debating doing something with my carriers at Bombay but he has 150 fighters at Akyab which is lvl 4 airfield. Also, I do not know where the KB is at this time. Hopefully it will show up at India to flex it's muscles. As reckless as I am being with my Army, I am the opposite with my navy. It will be extremely useful for amphibious landings and I want to keep it intact as possible. I am also probably still smarting from that beating I took off the coast of Australia.

Despite losing almost no navy fighters I still could use about 3 -4 months to get my 4f's filled out. The carriers have been all upgraded but the pools are empty and I have 4 or more squadrons of buffalo training at pearl waiting for these upgrades.

Battleship repairs are going well. I will have all of them repaired within 4 months. Some are going to upgrade taking at least half that time again. Although, like with my carriers these guys just get better over time so there is no hurry to bang them up.

Due to the river crossing it will still take 3 days for the large AV stack to enter Comilla. He has only 2 units there now as most seem to have moved toward Chittagong to the south. I am likely to lose the chance to capture all those units.

He appears to be moving a division plus some other units to the east. It may be a feint or it may be some supplementary units to help the Imperial guard stack. It is 2 AA units plus the artillery that I came into contact with during the shock attack across the river a few days ago.

He also might just be trying to kill the paratroopers. Who knows. Airfield damage at Imphal is down to 85% and the paratroop unit will be moving into the base to the east the next turn. There is an enemy unit in the next town over so things are going to be dicey. I still plan on trying to get units airlifted into the area. Depends on the condition of the airfield at the base.

Darjeeling will fall to the allies this turn and I am busy chasing him down the back road to try to link up the captured cities by rail. I dont think NJP will make that easy.

Imphal fell to a handful of Japanese troops. That sucks. Getting him out of there next time will be a PITA.

The assault on Comilla goes in 2 turns. He has troops that look like they might return to defend but NJP is deceptive with his troop movements frequently masking what he really intends to do. I am committed and pretty sure he does not know that 1100 AV are following on.

India August 14, 1942

Comilla will fall today and Tezpur to the southeast of Darjeeling. I saw 9 units in Dimapur last turn and assumed it was the imperial guard stack. However, there are 7 units southeast of Tezpur which is likely part of that stack.

The airfield at Kohima was intact when I took the base so I pulled the paratroopers out. I would like to keep them relatively unhurt if I can help it.

It appears NJP is trying to get to the dot hex my paratroopers are in. That would keep the rail line cut and be tough to dig him out of. I am moving my armor units to the east of Comilla in an attempt to get them into the hex before he reaches it. I will also send some of the units at Tezpur to reinforce. If I can keep it then it will help me a lot.

The current plan in my head is to rail move 700-800 units from Dacca into Comilla. Then take at least 2000 - 2500 AV and split them up moving east and west.

Up at Columbo I am staging a bombardment attack, an airfield attack with my B-17's and the aircraft carriers are making a showing. I have 2 American and 2 British carriers up here. NJP already indicated he is going to have to figure out how to counter this threat.

Honestly though, one carrier is due to be withdrawn in 21 days and the other british carrier in 65 days. What I am hoping is that this draws the KB into the theatre if it is not already here. If it does show up then it will allow my invasion of Nadi supported by the other 4 carriers to go on with a much larger safety margin. This invasion could probably being within 7-10 days.

And NJP said he was hoping for a couple weeks grace but should have known how aggressive I am. Me?? I am a harmless little fuzzball!!! This is coming from a guy who has 2/3rds of Australia and at one point had at least a third of India under his flag!! LOL!!! He is a great opponent who is cheerful and supportive and I am enjoying the hell out of this game.

The score is 20362 to 11237. My margin is looking slightly better. Once NJP takes Manila and Singapore and Chungking my score will drop about 5K so I will be sitting at 6K to whatever he gains. I still do not think it will come dangerously close to 4-1. The place I am gaining the most is in aircraft points and embarassingly it seems to be more due to ops losses on his side than anything I am doing.

If I manage to capture Nadi and Suva it gains me 700+ victory points and a bit of breathing room. Every point I gain is 4 NJP needs to make. And although I am still sucking wind in LCU points at 10-1, other things are in my favor.

The carrier fleet and bombardment task force are re-routing back to Bombay, their job being done.

1400 AV + is heading east from Comilla trying to pick up that division he has running around.

A pile of troops left over are heading south for Chittagong. I am not really sure that I will commit these troops.

Right now the best course of action would be to try to isolate his good armies that are now trapped behind the lines. This will force him to move through Imphal to Burma. I do not plan on trying to push into Burma any time soon although I will start setting up lines through the area as NJP withdraws into Burma.

NJP mentions it was an anti-climactic turn. I say that undetected ships are lovely...

Hopefully he spends lots of assets looking for the carriers and surface combat fleets in the Bay of Bengal and elsewhere. Of course, if he is like me he wont believe a thing I say. Either way it makes sense for him to try to find out where they are. In addition, if it does not draw the KB I would be surprised. He cannot risk the shipping lane from Chittagong to Singapore as it is full of ships currently.

I am almost committed to a major assault on Chittagong right now. I would use mostly british and indian brigades along with the newly formed 2 british division (actually forming next turn). My thinking is that if I capture Chittagong and more importantly the wooded hex to the southeast of it then I would go a long way in the Burma campaign and I would not have to attack when the city is properly defended.

The down sides to this are that he will be able to bombard me for a number of turns from the sea and there is a good chance he started to improve the fortifications here. However, due to the speed of my attack, he may not have had the motive to do it earlier.

Any suggestions on the above? Is there anyone out there? Sometimes I wonder if it is just bots reading this to sell me military gear and gaming software

On the other front I am moving the 6th, 7th and 70th British divisions east to attempt to catch a division he has trying for the dot hex east of Comilla. I am praying I get there first with enough troops to hold it. If so he likely will get booted to the southeast right into imphal if he retreats which is a PITA but nothing I can do about it. I am guessing if I trap him then NJP will send a unit NW to break the hex side to allow retreat.

The thing I have going for me with Imphal is his supply levels. If not enough trickles in from Burma it may be possible to get him out sooner rather than later but I am not going to hold my breath on that one.

The alternative I am thinking about for the Aussie and British divisions is to do a surprise invasion of Ceylon during or shortly after I do the Suva amphibious assault. I can get them to the dot hex sw of Darjeeling and then strat move them to bombay for loading and transport. They are 100% prepped for Columbo. The upside to an assault like this now is that he has 4 divisions bogged down in Burma and would have to make some hard choices about troop deployment to Ceylon vs the Burma coast. The down side to this is that he has the majority of his navy in the area. I may want to try one or two more campaigns down south to draw his attention before I try Columbo.

Strategic Overview of the War moving Forward

The objective is to keep up the pace of the war at this level and at an increased level to keep my opponent off balance. He has yet to conquer Manila and Singapore and he has 4 divisions tied up in the jungles of Burma. He has at least another divisions worth of troops at Kalgoorlie and had 2 others. That accounts for over 1/2 of the Japanese divisions.

The overall strategic plan is as follows.

Carrier and surface task forces consisting of the CV's Lexington, Enterprise, Hornet, and Wasp and 8 BB's for bombardment. Unless he has a division hiding at Nadi this is serious overkill.

I will be using almost all the AP's in game to unload the troops at Nadi. I have 10-20 AKL's amphibiously loading supplies so they do not have to go on the troop ships (mostly). My plan is to launch the invasion on DDay. On DD+1 I expect to be detected by planes at Suva. On DD+2 the troop ships land at Nadi and an 8 BB bombardment TF hits Suva. Hopefully on DD+3 or certainly by DD+4 the AP's will be able to withdraw. On DD+44 I should be able to attack Nadi and capture the base. Also by DD+4 the bulk of the cargo ships bringing supplies should arrive delivering a large amount of supply in a short time and risking not much in terms of shipping points.

At this point the plan is to completely withdraw my naval forces and allow the 2 division to take over Suva. I still consistently show only 3K troops at the location. I plan on leaving a nice present for any Japanese bombardment or invasion forces consisting of hundreds of mines laid on DD or DD + 1.

Then what I would like to do is shift the entire fleet to the west and pick up the troops at Melbourne for delivery to Esperance. I only have about 350 AV ready to amphib assault the city but the Americal division is available for follow on and I have nearly 3000 PP to buy out other units as needed. I can get air power up quickly and now I have real tanks to use in the desert. This is a marginal attack and I could lose troops here but it would tie him up for an invasion at Ceylon if he moves assets down to try to protect Perth.

Once that is in full swing and depending on his troop and naval deployments I will consider invading Ceylon.

The Esperance invasion can move back to Sydney to upgrade the carriers (October 42) and then I should be ready to invade Noumea.

The invasion of Noumea needs some more prep as I have to buy out the 41st division as he is 100% prepped for it or I can re-task some of the divisions that take Suva (or task them to the chain islands between Noumea and Suva). I will deliver 2+ divisions to the Island of Noumea and again be out within a few days. This one he is likely to fight for however as he has an air HQ at the location and it is tactically worth 1200 points as it is worth 300 and the Japanese have to achieve 4 to 1 in 1943.

Of course, this is war so the plan will change 5 minutes from now...

The Tojo's have a bad day over Calcutta. NJP sweeps in with Tojo's and is met with P40E's and loses 17 planes to 7 P40's. I credit it to the experience of my fighter crews. Also, 4/5/ of the planes are needing repair so 2 groups get sent off to a back base to refit. I moved in a couple fighter groups from nearby and will cycle in fresh fighter groups from Hyderbad if he continues to attempt sweeps.

The dot hex Silchar received troops and now has over 200 AV in armor in the hex. He has a division moving in but I dont think it can push my troops out so I will have hex control. Several other divisions are moving toward the hex.

I snuck 6 destroyers into Calcutta and am trying to do raids to hopefully catch some of his transports. All I am catching is a light cruiser/destroyer task force that is beating me up good.

NJP makes a shock attack with the 53rd Division across the river to the dot hex Silgar and takes over 60% disablement. I am going to shock attack next turn with all the armor units that made it there. It is not ideal but with his level of disablement I think I can make progress on weakening him so I can retain this hex.

To my surprise and glee, Chittagong is not defended. I will take the base next turn. My intentions are to drive as large an army as possible into the wooded hex SE of Chittagong and hold there. It will not be able to be bombarded by the sea and gives good defense against air attacks. This is where I plan to hold until I advance on Burma.

I am chomping at the bit to start the Suva offensive. Loading will likely start tomorrow.

The shock attack at Silgar begins with the 3rd USMC paratroop Battalion going BANZAI!!! Oops... 7-1 odds and although the division loses 60 squads, it also gets transported magically to Imphal where it can walk out of the jungle relatively unscathed after that. Another unit slips my grasp!!

Chittagong falls and my troops immediately head for the trees. NJP is showing 45,000 troops with over 200 tanks in the hex but the stack I am moving is 800AV+ so I should be alright. Once I bombard and see what is there I will decide how to start setting up defenses.

He might be trying to lure me down the road so he could do an amphib assault on Chittagong LOL!! Cant get too ahead of myself.

Hey, welcome and thanks for the support. It puts some wind in my sails and gives me reason to put time in the AAR.

Havent seen the KB, am not sure whether the feint worked or not but troops are loading on ships bound for Nadi so we are going to know within the next few days RL unless something happens!!
