Staying on topic of the actual game in progress, the French may be required to retire from the Med temporarily, until they have some of their own land units to defend their ports (primarily Oran). I don't know where they're going to scrape together the land units, but I suppose the CW needs to churn them out to defend North Africa until lending kicks in.
The advice from Lord Composer99 is sound.

Ormster and Composer

One slight problem with this advice. For the CW to protect French ports in North Africa I will need an HQ (because of FTC). But surely I am going to need all the land troops I can muster - including HQ - to defend the imminent attack on Spain??

This looks like an impossible job [X(]

Not sure if that's an actual endorsement or if the 'Lord' in there implies sarcasm at my unbounded foolishness. [:D][;)]

The French have a couple of Syrian TERR units. I will try and get them back to Algeria.

You only need an HQ for FTC for the new French home country. You don't need it for aligned French minors.

The paragraphs describing FTC in the rules provide three cases:
(1) Major power or minor country units ending steps in major power home countries they don't cooperate with
(2) Minor country units ending steps in minor country home countries they don't cooperate with
(3) Axis units need FTC to operate in Vichy administration groups (by far the most restrictive case)

If it's not one of those cases, you don't need FTC.

So Rumanian units need FTC to operate in Italy or Hungary, Germany would need FTC to operate in Vichy-controlled Mauritius, and CW needs FTC to operate in pre-conquest France (and now Senegal in your game, IIRC) but not the North African minors (unless one of them is the new French major power home country) and not (ever) in French territories.

Syrian territorials would fall afoul of the FTC rules. As minor country (Syrian) units, they don't cooperate with Algerians.

Just a small sign of respect and appreciation and at the same time a feeble attempt to make the post a tiny bit fun. [:)]

That, My Lord, may cause some trouble. As Lord Composer99 pointed out the Algerians are not all that fond of the Syrians so it might cause concern if we attempt to deploy them there. Also cause for concern is that Syria itself could soon be under attack from the Axis forces. Therefore, My Lord, I suggest that the Syrian forces remain in Syria. There is a danger that if the Italian, or German, forces gain a foothold in Syria then Iraq might very well join the Axis side.

The US get their convoys into the Caribbean and so should be up to full complement of 40 producing factories.

I begin the process of getting spare convoys to the East Coast so that I can lend build points to the French as soon as possible. The French do the same. The naval units in Casablanca are all disorganised. Not sure why but hopefully temporary...

Yes, Sir, your greatcoat at once!

Should I send for you car?

Are we to make a surprise inspection of the troops, Sir? It might improve their morale although I am sure that the troops are eager to make My Lord proud and kick the Huns back to Hell and beyond.

The remainder of the turn is largely taken up with matters naval.

The Royal Navy put the Home Fleet to sea in the North Sea, the TRS are fully loaded and placed in the Bay of Biscay, there to await the imminent invasion of Spain.

The French and British fleets in the Med hold fire awaiting further developments; a couple of fleets are placed with them - one to protect the convoys and one to provide naval gunfire support.

I move a ton of Convoy counters all over the place - and hope to make sense of it all come the Production Planning phase....

Probably because during the Return-to-Base phase the French hadn't yet surrendered. So during that phase they couldn't trace a supply path to any French supply source. If the French had held Nice or any other coastal city this probably would not have been a problem. Though I am not sure why there would be a difference for the units in Casablanca compared to the units in Oran. ?

Their new supply source is Senegal and they should re-organize at the end of this turn.

Ok, more research shows that the ships in Casablanca were the ones that were overrun during the Conquest phase. So they had to make a return-to-base move after which they would be disorganized and since Conquest is after Return-to-Base, they would have no chance to re-organize until the end of the new turn.

Not sure why the fleet in Oran was able to re-organize however.

and another boo-boo here on my part. I am so ingrained with playing with the Isolated Re-Org rule since before it was even a published rule (House Rule in WiF4/5), that I am not used to units always re-organizing regardless of location.

So the status of the ships in each port looks exactly correct to me, in this game.

Italy follows suit. This may not have been strictly necessary (we'll see in due course) but a) I do not like multiple states of war, and b) I suspect the Italians will be needed at some point and at least this gets the deed done.

Time to set up the Spanish. This should be interesting; I haven't set up the Spanish for almost 20-years - and they were pink then [;)]

I've just realised I did not bring the German Mountain unit along. Well you wouldn't would you? [8|][8|]
