Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Axis #3. Italian RM. East Med.

The Italians take a much needed naval and move sea and land reinforcements into the East Med. Their one damaged transport was repaired and is loaded with a 5-4 mountain corps headed for the Middle East. Also, an Italian RM CA is loaded with a 1-3 division from Cyprus and is in transient (also) to the Middle East.

The Italians elect NOT to initiate combat as they're don't want to risk attacks against their just returned transport or, worse case, risk losing control of the sea area and supply to their troops in the Middle East.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Axis #3. British RN. East Med. Round 1. Search and Air to Air.

However, the CW does wish combat and chooses, as the non-phasing player, to initiate combat. Both sides roll low for the search rolls and thus both sides find the other.

In the air to air combat the axis fighter cover is stripped with the German fighter unit shot down and the Italian fighter unit forced to abort. Both sides get get bombers through to attack the other sides naval units. Of most concern of the Italians is their newly repaired transport.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Axis #3. British RN. East Med. Round 1. Naval Combat.

Italian AA fire is in intense and results in the downing of 1 of the 3 RN CVP units. A second has its bombs reduced by 3, which leaves 0. Only one of the three air units actually get through to attack the Italian fleet. Two damages was the expected result. Fortunately for the Italians, the CW player rolled high and both damage results turned into aborts.

The Italian NAV had an expected result of damage and abort. Both results turned into two aborts.

Both sides stay and search is rolled for a possible second round.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Axis #3. British RN. East Med. Round 2.

Round 2 has the RN surprising the Italian RM (i.e., the CW search rolled succeed and the Italian's didn't) and isolating sea box 0. The RN sinks an Italian convoy, damages an RM heavy cruiser and forces a second heavy cruiser to abort. A clear victory from the British RN.

Both sides, again decided to stay.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Axis #3. British RN. East Med. Round 3.

It's the Italian RM turn to surprise the British RN. Wanting the battle to end, the Italians use 4 of their surprise points to avoid, and thus end, this naval combat.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Allied #5. CW. Port Attack, Brest.

The CW takes a combine. They use two of their air missions for a port attack. The first port attack is against Brest and manages to damage the German Heavy Cruiser Grap Spee and disorganize the Battleship Bismarck.

Note (Bottom Cap): The "Allied player" actually choose the target for choices 1 and 2. Choice 2, should have been the axis choice. The "Axis player" choose the target for choice 3 to make up for this. Confusing, I know, but the allied player got to choose 2 of the 3 targets and the axis player 1 as it should have been. Only the order was messed up.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Allied #5. CW. Port Attack, Jaffa, Palestine.

The second port attack is an overwhelming success for the RN. The RN manages to bottom the newly repaired, and only available, Italian transport. Also, an Italian heavy cruiser was damaged.

After 2-years of playing MWiF, it's just lately that I'm really beginning to appreciate how important port attacks are.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Allied #5. British RN. North Atlantic. CPs Restored.

The CW uses the combine to replace in the North Atlantic the 2 CPs sunk and 3 CPs forced to abort by the Germans two impulses ago. Barring any other disruptions, the CW convoy routes are back flowing as wanted.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Allied #5. British RN. Cape Verde Basin.

Because the CW took a combine, the 10 unprotected CPs in the Cape Verde Basin are again at risk from Italian sub attacks. Not wanting to push their luck the Italian subs will again not find these CPs (as they did last impulse), the CW uses their 2, and last, naval move of their combine to move a heavy cruiser and 3 additional CPs into Cape Verde Basin. Of course, the CW choose not to initiate combat.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Allied #5. Italian Subs. Cape Verde Basin. Round 1, Sub Combat.

The Italians manage to sink 1 CP, but see their sub in the highest sea box forced to abort.

Both sides decide to stay but both fail to find the other. That result sits perfectly well with the RN.

CW convoy routes are safe, for now.

Mao and his communist readjust their lines a bit. They look to be in a very good defensive position against the Japanese.

Are you aware that disorganized CVPs still fly in naval combat? The CW should have engaged they still had the edge in the air.
