I just saw the replay. Betties attacked Manila. It looks like Houston took two fish. So if she doesn't sink, she'll be in Cavite yard for a while.

Geoff is shooting flies with howitzers. His CV's are launching Alpha strike after Alpha strike and each one kills a AKL. Ever see a AKL take four torpedoes and two bombs?

Also , the Vildebeast from Singapore put a fish each into Hiyuo and Soyru. I would be doubtful, but Geoff sent me a one word message with the replay...VILDEBEAST! was all it said. 2 Damaged , four to go. If one more of the KB catches a torpedo he'll have to go home. Cause then it will be 3 to 3. Not odd's that I'd take , but will make him cautious. I might risk my 3 CV's. Yorktown arrives in 21 days and that will give me 4. If I can bring over Indomitable , well, that will give me 3 and 1/2. [:D][:D]

Why wouldn't you bring the carriers into the IO to backstop Java? Given even odds, that-in my opinion-is a no-brainer. If you're too concerned about losing the ships, you can offload the very capable F and DB units from afar and skedaddle to someplace safer for your ships.

Without KB backstopping the DEI adventure, you can really take it to some of his aggressive amphibious TF and SCTF groups. Maybe delay Java's invasion until after the amphibious bonus? Without KB backstopping the SoPac, things slow down there too. You can safely reinforce PM and New Caledonia, Perth and the eastern seaboard of Oz. Without 1/2 of KB there, you're at a 'tie'. That makes a huge difference.

Yup. The replay writes out all 4 reports (combat, sigint, ops, and events). Plus when you open the turn it writes out the version of the combat report stored inside the turn file. If there was a sync bug the two versions of the combat report will be different. The catch is the one written from the turn file uses the same name and so over-writes the one written by the replay; if you want to save the combat report written by the replay you must rename it before you open the turn.

Love to. Unlikey that I'll be able to comply for a while. My desktop is half crippled , lurching along unable to do much. Everytime I restart it almost doesn't come up, I get multiple Drive degraded message on the boot menu. And my paint and other such programs are either expired or need re-installment. I'm looking for a new computer , and will then send this one in for yet another rebuild. I'm hoping I can get it done this week. The main problem is I'll want windows 7 installed when purchased. Most dealers won't , but I've heard that Micro mark will. I'll keep you all advised.

FWIW, I too had trepidation about getting a new laptop running on Win10. I am pleased to say that, after some switches and tech support from this very site, I'm up and running just fine. [8D]

Good to hear your constipation has been fixed up, but what about your laptop?

Don't ask me - by 1980 I was too old to know what it meant! I've been behind the frontiers of young folk "language" ever since!

Sounds like your system is too far gone for this right now, but I clone my hard drives and replace them about every 18 months. I use a program called Casper with a USB drive toaster on another computer to clone the drives. It makes a mirror image so the new drive plugs in and once the BIOS is set for the new drive, Windows doesn't know anything changed.

You can still buy Windows 7 licenses, but usually you have to go somewhere like Ebay.

Thanks for the advice Bill. I'll definitely do that with my next computer. And with this one too, once I send it in for repair.

Since I just realized that there's probably more computer experts on this forum then any place I know, can I ask you guys your opinion on this one I'm thinking of? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OYAFCUK/re ... QJ57YH2NQC

What I want is a good reliable computer for no game more advanced than WITP AE, but I'd like something with potential to grow. Whaddaya think, Sirs?

That spec seems way overkill for your intended use unless you are heavily into first person shooters and or MMO's or other graphic intesive gaming or processing. You should be able to buy good, entry or even slightly abouve entry level first person shoort PC's for a third of that ($500 to $700), the hitch is they will probably come with Windows 8 (with a free upgrade to 10) or Windows 10. Is it an absolute must that you stay on Windows 7?

I ended up building my gaming PC two years ago and will do the same thing the next time I want to upgrade. You can find many suggested builds on-line for many price ranges. It's a little bit of a time ivestment and the waiting game to get parts shipped to you, but its a worthwhile exercise. I have no expertise in building computers, or any special electronics skills and I found it both enterntaining and rewarding. Everything is plug-n-play, especially if you follow a build script and you can easily find YOu Tube videos that coever eveything.

Good luck in which ever direction you head.

I agree.

I'm no techie, so I was a bit unsettled accepting Win10 after all the horrible things I'd heard about compatibility with Win8 and the issues with the first generation Surface tablets' screens and so on. Eventually, I decided to put on my big boy pants and just get Win10 and deal with it. Haven't looked back since.

There were a good number of laptops and desktops available that suited my needs in the $600-800 range. I didn't want / need a top end model, but I didn't want a POS either. My $750 unit easily handles WiTP:AE, is portable, has a huge screen and works very nicely with my 27" monitor too. [8D]

I agree that there are probably some people here that could be very helpful. What I would do is post something outside of this AAR and list what your needs and typical uses of the PC will be and ask people for some assistance. Maybe in the War Room?

My big problem isn't with windows 10. It's with All the software that I'll lose the use of. My wife has windows 10, and while she certainly doesn't love it , we are able to live with it. It's really not that I can't put on my big boy pants , but rather that it's a really bad time for me to convert ALL my systems , programs , and learn a new system to boot. I'll do it eventually , but just not now.

My reason for buy more computer than I need is simple. I hang on to things. My current computer is over 11 years old. BUT I keep updating it to pretty current standards. And even after I purchase the new computer , I'll have this one fixed and updated , and use THIS one for my windows 7 programs. The new one I'll eventually update. (Which by the way , will probably be when Microsoft finds and fixes most of the bugs in 10).

I also like to be able to grow. So I've always tried to reach beyond my current needs. So yeah , I realize it's more than I need. NOW. But what about in a couple of months, or years? Both of my wife are looking at scrap booking and photography. And streaming.

Thanks for your advice guys. I really appreciate it. But I'm not looking to do it overly cheap. I just don't want to make mistake by getting too cheap.
