No PP rules. No house rules at all in this game.
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

My bad I thought for some unknown reason PP rules were on. I'm so used to them that I never think in different terms. Thanks for the reply!

I thought expanding and repairing of industry for Japan was a player No No.
This is what most say. I'm different. I maintain that in certain areas it could be done in moderation.
To me the payback is in fuel, as its more efficient to ship supplies than resources. Taiwan for instance is one such area.

There is a misunderstanding maybe: are we talking about the supply level in Tokio or the supply level for Japan as a whole?
With 500k as a whole I think I'd have to stop operating in maximum a couple of turns.
I’m not sure exactly how much supply I have in Japan (excluding Hokkaido) as I don’t use tracker. I’d have to manually add the supply to find out and I’m not doing that!
As I imagine we all know Empire wide supply levels may be found in the 'Intelligence Screen'.
In my current game I've had it down to 1.7M, which I found too low to sustain my ongoing field ops. Hey, its against the AI and I wanted to find the 'bottom'. I have played with it down to about 1.85M before and found it 'challenging' to maintain ops, but doable. I'm currently in 7/43 and supply Empire wide is >4M and rising.

Manchukuo: garrison is at 8100/8000. 14th/B Div is next to move forward once it gets to about 8200/8000
Careful here Jamie. That's too close to the minimum. I've seen fluctuations here of over 100 AV on a normal bases. There's even at least one ground that I've seen withdraw in mid-43 of 140 AV. You don't want to activate the Soviets do you? I recommend you leave at lest 8500 to cover such occurrences. For me its no chances in this aspect of the game.
BTW reinforcements in the area are few and far between. In addition to that they tend to have small AV's.

RE: 18 Feb 42 report
I disagree with the general supply level.
Due to my stupidity, in my last pbem as Japan I made a mess with game files. Result: got many hundred thousands HI less than supposed to be and few supplies. I reached little bit more than 1M (something like 1.1M) and I was still able to sustain major operations.
I have done huge fights in China to break Chinese defensive system in changsha area and reach chungking. Many fights well over SL and over 500 2E in daily bombing runs.
On top of that I am in the process of conquering Australia. At the lowest peak I begun Sidney siege.
I found that, even at that level, I could still run operations with no major constraints.
You need to know pretty well Japanese economy functioning and logistics to stretch that much your economy. Now I solved my industrial problem (my advice: NEVER MESS WITH FILES ahahah) and I'm consistently having a surplus of +8k daily.
I strongly advice against stretching the economy that much, though. You really need to have everything under perfect control to work so tight. I don't use the tracker at all so I don't know whether it might help is these situations.
Problem with supplies in 42 is never ever "how many they are", rather than "where they are". Later in the game stock level plays an important role and so the overall numbers are at least as important as supplies distribution.
On industrial expansion.
A part from engines and planes, I generally do expand:
- NavShipyards to reach 1.400 points
- HI in Singapore, Java, HK and Shanghai
- Vehicles to, at least, 150
- RepairShipyard in Singapore and eventually also Soerabaja. For Singapore, massively.
It's extremely dependent on the game I am playing though. I went as far as 350 vehicles for example or 1.700 NavShipyard points. Both have been very wild matches.
HI in the said locations and vehicles to 150 are the only ones I always advice to do.

That’s a fair point, there are a few units that withdraw so I will check dates and AV, but total Manch garrison AV is still rising slowly as some starting squad disablements are still repairing.
As these AV moves can be planned for I am comfortable keeping it just above 8k as every bit extra I can get into China helps.
I do not want the Soviets to activate early though, so will be keeping my merchant ships well out of Soviet waters!

All Manch units to China so far.
PP are being used to buy Divs out of Japan as they can’t walk anywhere.

Well, Alfred came through (as usual) and found the reference:ORIGINAL: PaxMondo
That was written quite some time ago … Alfred is looking into it to see when/if there was an update.ORIGINAL: castor troy
ORIGINAL: GetAssista
That would be new to me. And to Alfred too https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.a ... 38&mpage=1
and this is where Alfred is once again wrong. Not sure why everyone thinks he would know all and everything. In my ongoing PBEM vs Mundy Kates from KB attacked from a range of 9 hexes in early 42. And I have seen enough AAR where the IJ player tried to stay 10 hexes from the enemy to fly strikes with Graces from that range. I've done the same. Never heard or seen evidence of CV strikes of 10+ hexes.
Like you, I am sure I have had launches at 9 hex and maybe 10 as well. Nothing beyond 10 though. I also recall a thread about it where it was all clarified. Hopefully Alfred will find it.
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.a ... er%2Crange?
He also cautioned that there is more than a little ambiguity hidden within the response. I take that to mean there is a lot of dev discussion on this and the word "random" means VERY much that.
It would explain why I have only seen this a very few times, and that planning on it should be taken with the expectation that a no launch is a successful outcome.
Pax
RE: 18 Feb 42 report
Should also note LoBaron's comment that 11 hex can't happen. He was very thorough testing this in a sandbox. He definitely got 10 hex strikes with IJ.

BB Arizona – My first siting of a USN Pacific Fleet capital warship. Very interesting to see a BB and the CVs so far forward. I am assuming that Wake Island is being reinforced, so with a stacking limit of 6000 troops I don’t think I can capture Wake Island cheaply now. After PNG is secured I might plan a Division level assault, but that will need a deliberate KB fighting patrol to clear the surrounding area of the USN first. This operation is on the shortlist for mid-1942.

OPERATIONAL REPORT FOR Feb 22, 42
Nadzab is occupied by the Japanese
Repairs completed on DD Mikazuki at Singapore, ship returned to service – old DDs now have ASW capability so my CL task forces will soon be returning to front line duty. I am mainly using them in the Fast Transport role now as I am not spotting any allied surface combat task forces in the DEI. I think they’ve all moved to SOPAC, but some may be operating out of Perth or Darwin. I don’t have any recon eyes on the NW Australia coast yet to confirm or deny this.

RE: 18 Feb 42 report
ORIGINAL: jdsrae
ORIGINAL: rustysi
Just checked this and only 2 x Kwantung Army units withdraw. Note that this is scenario 1:
1. Arshaan Fort with 42 Assault Value on 17 May 44
2. 7th Garrison Unit with 120 AV on 17 Jan 45
I just have to keep enough supply in Manchukuo so that units don't become disabled from starvation and I can run the Manchukuo Garrison at just above 8000.
I record the supply level at various cities (Port Arthur for Manchukuo) on the 1st of each month just to see whether it is trending up or down. Port Arthur currently has 283k supply but it is trending down as it gets drawn into China to support Army ops there.
I am planning to open up a regular supply line from Japan to China shortly by using the return leg on a relatively small capacity Fus-Shi Resource convoy.
61 AV arrives in Apr 42 with subunits that allow the 71st Div to be formed. The 71st Div will stay in Manchukuo.
332 AV arrives in Jun 42 with subunits that allow the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions to form. They will move straight to China to form those Divisions and help capture Chungking.
9 AV arrives in 1943 with a JAAF AF Bn.
794 AV arrives in 1944 in barely trained units. These reinforcement units will give me the option to move two more well trained Divisions out of Manchukuo. 23rd/24th/25th/28th/29th Divs are on that shortlist. I am expecting to have to spend PP to be able to move them by ship to wherever they are needed by then, probably to bolster a defensive line somewhere.
1963 AV arrives in 1945 in poor quality units. I am not planning to move anything out of Manchukuo in 1945. That's all subject to the allies following my version of the script of course!
The 1944 and 45 arriving units can probably also be filled out from ##% to 100% but that will cost supply to do at the time and more supply to keep them fed every day. I will have to watch supply levels and decide if/when to start filling them to 100% before the Soviets activate. That's all too far off to think about in detail just yet.
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

Low garrison leads to damage and 1 VP loss from partisan attack at Baybay (81, 86)!
I’ve never had a plan that I was happy with to garrison Baybay. I feel like I’m a few Garrison units short of what I need, especially now I’ve got a few bases in Java that need small garrisons… Plan A was to use the 8th and 9th JNAF Coys at Baybay as they have 20 AV combined, but I decided that was a waste of aviation support that I need in forward areas like the Celebes. Plan B was to use the 10th Garrison Unit that has just arrived and withdraws in Nov 43. While checking my plan for this unit I decided to send both the 10th and 11th Garrison Units to SEAF instead, as I figure they will be of more use to me closer to the front line in PNG or the Solomons. Plan C now is to move the 10th Special Base Force from Tarakan to Baybay as it has 30 AV and some Naval Support. With the 10th SBF at Baybay it will become the ASW and local patrol IJN base for the Philippine Islands and I’ll slowly expand the airfield to help defend any future Leyte Gulf operations.
CS Nisshin arrives at Nagasaki/Sasebo – Will join RADM Yamaguchi’s CVL task force. Nisshin-1 will convert to Jakes, resize to 20 and has already taken 20 trained pilots. Nisshin-2 will stay at Kure to train more pilots for the Imperial Japanese Navy Jake Force (IJNJF).

Assaulting units:
5th Tank Regiment – won’t follow
8th Division – might follow, maybe… probably not
Defending units: I noticed that one defending unit had moved out to the SW so went for a deliberate attack. This is on the slow road that runs parallel and just to the W of the fast road to Sian. I am not planning a major advance on this axis and don’t really want the 8th Div moving further away from Changsha. I’ll probably cancel their move order tomorrow and find something to swap with it so I can move it to the Big Show vic Changsha.
