The Soviets try and exert maximum pressure that they can.

Progress in the south wasn't quite what was hoped for, although I continue to try and press south of the marshes

I got impatient again in Japan.... So silly - I don't have the space to operate so further progress is unlikely

I would imagine that Japan would surrender as soon as the bomb is dropped on them. But, and here I'm reaching deep into the memory banks, I think you need to have a heavy bomber in range of the Home Islands. Since you already own Hiroshima and Nagasaki it drops on Osaka. Or at least that's what happened in my game. As for Europe, Germany really is running out the clock but you've made some very good progress. Once Osaka disappears I suspect that they'll see reason and Hitler will have a tragic accident and fall down some stairs in his bunker. :)

Two turns left. Its all a bit desperate as there is no real point in reinforcing now; its all hands to the pump and see what happens.

I try and put a bit of pressure on Italy by landing on Italian soil with the 101st Airborne.

To the north the Germans form a wall blocking the path to the Reich - although in truth I am not going to even occupy Alsace....

The attack in Southern Russia is a busted flush and the Soviets here won't be going much further.

To the north the Soviets take some pride in setting foot on East Prussian soil. There is a lack of rivers here so I am hoping for one more huzzah! before close of play...

In Western Japan there is simply not enough room to swing a cat and I am out of AVL's. So I turn my few remaining assets to the east. This sees Niigata fall (just!) thanks to a combined US/USSR combo.

The three Axis powers have enemy troops on their soil and so I hope that Germany and Italy will start to join Japan in the lowers reaches...

I haven't got a strat bomber on the Pacific front! I could probably get one from Europe but goodness knows where it would lend. I suspect I will end the game sans da bomb.

Damn - caught out by the faux last turn cobbleaux again, so no pictures.

Not much happened other than the Italians took back Tripoli - that was careless - and neither the Western Allies nor the Soviets could do much in terms of damage or movement forward.

Do you have any islands within strat bomb range of Japan? Iwo, Marianas, even Philippines depending on strat bomber range.

Well it's now what I assume, IS the last turn, 10 August 1945 - and I get a message to say I can get the bomb at a cost of 600 over 4 turns! I click yes anyway and nothing happens to Japanese units BUT then this happens...

But despite this, the unit northwest of Osaka was invulnerable to attack... I would have thought they would collapse like a stack of cards with nil NM.

August 1945 - end of game

So I did the few attacks left open to me. With a port and a firm foothold in the plains north of Tokyo, it would only have been a matter of time. But I ran out of it. I think a learning point would be to continue to play the game 'normally' and ignore the number of turns left as the clock winds down. Had I done that I would have had so many units on AVL that could have been decisive, but instead I threw them away on desperate, piecemeal attacks fearing the lack of time.

August 1945 - end of game

The final positions in Europe. The Soviets were stopped short of Warsaw. The focus, had the game continued, would have been on the 'bulge' around Modlin - or wherever the Germans left 3 hexes of attack.

In the West, a sneaky raid by the British liberated northern Holland and also took Essen! The Allies were stopped short of Luxembourg but took Metz. The US para was ejected from Italy and there was no Allied units present on Italian soil at the end of the game.

No picture sadly, but there had been movement in Finland in the last few turns. The Finnish defences in the east had crumbled and the HQ destroyed. Another SF units had landed in southern Finland too.
