RE: Fleet report
If I were Japanese I would be very catious about trying to bombard Akyab. Its very easy for the RN to put a BB TF there and those old BBs can do a job on the Japanese. If the Japanese lose then thier BBs will be out of the war for months or maybe a year. Akyab is an Ideal place for the RN to try this because it can have lots of CAP and if the RN TF leaves at night its already 7 or 8 hexes from the nearest Japanese airbase by noon.
Bombarding Akyab is a nice idea in theory but its very dangerous in reality.

Agree 100%. No intention of risking my fleet asset in the Bay of Bengals. There are too many allied a/c down there and , altough the RN should still be in very bad shape ( i had sunk the formidable and put several fishes into the Pow and Repulse), i do not see the point of risking that much. Because, even if i can bomb once akyab , then the problem is to keep it closed, and i do not have the means to do that and to face frontally the Hordes of well skilled allied planes that can engage my little air force from several different bases around akyab.

Nothing special to report.
The usual night allied bombing missions , from Hanoi to Rangoon, from Mytikina to Mandalay.
The usual minewarfare against allied subs that keep on laying tons of mines at my bases.
A good naval bombardment at Timor that closes for a while the last Timor AF.
Going on with the training program: when the tonies will be out ( in 20 days i guess ) i'll start to upgrade my army groups. I have at least 10 sentais of oscars and nates over 80 exp[8D]...these guys should do quite well flying with Tonies! So i will be able to free my zeros from the defensive tasks and fullfill again my Carrier groups!

Port supply hits 1
Now either Hiei and Kirishima went over their 10 syst damage. The attrition of the naval bombardments is too high i think. BTW they'll rest now a bit at Sosarbjia( Sp?) and wait unitll the main fleet will come into this sector from Truk ( 2/3 weeks i guess).

29389 vs. 6690...that starts to look like "automatic victory" if you can hold that ratio... Allies will be in hurry to do something.

RE: Mid July 42
Just a few tips for you:
1. I've seen you have been dissapointed with your bombardment TFs more that once. It was not the fault of your TF leader, and solution is simple - you did not have any recon of the area, next time make sure you send recon planes for about a week and you will be nicely surprised with the results.
1. About enemy sub minelaying: You cannot hope to kill all the subs, but you can try to get at least some. There seems to be a pattern in his minelaying operations, so for start put some DDs, MSW and PC ships in ASW TF, put a good very aggressive commander in charge of it and send it to patrol Paramushiro Jima hex. Put some high skilled (80+) Pete unit on naval search with range 2 and 1000 ft altitude and wait for his subs to come again... Just make sure you put some CAP there too, 50 B17s on naval strike could ruin a day for your ASW TF if you leave it without CAP.

RE: Mid July 42
Hi, Gen Hoepner
I noticed you have very low transport losses (2 AP and 1 AK at the start of June 1942). Even with all ships sailing in convoys with 6-10 ASW ships and never having an invasion TF engaged by enemy surface ships or going without CAP, I lose more ships than that every month. By the way the Japanese ships have so bad FLT control that every ship hit by a torpedo during an invasion is probably doomed.
Have you some special ASW tactics ? Or did your opponent use all his submarines for minelaying, troop transport and so on ?

Hi all,
thanks for reading and supporting this struggle[:)]
Back from France and ready to fight again[8D]
Yes, recon is important even for naval bombardments...i knew that, it's just that i hoped i could do without it, but facts say i cannot[:)]
I've been trying to put my best ASW ships in dedicated TF to look for those damned minelayers subs, but , although there are tons of float planes with high exp crews on the threatened bases, it seems that i can only spot them but i'm totally unable to inflict some damage[:@].
The few losses in my transport ship list is probably a consequence of my very "conservative" way of playing. Since the first days i never launched any invasion ( even the smaller ones) without a strong air and naval cover. On the other side, he adopted a stiff bunker tactic, refusing to engage my ships with his naval and aerial assets. His subs have been doing almost transport duties (saving abbandoned units ) and minelaying till now. During the invasion of PM he tried to engage my KB that was covering the unloading operations. He threw 10 of his subs against my capital ships. He managed to launch a fish into the Kaga, but that torp did not detonate and the brave sub has been sunk[:D]
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/13/42
Nothing really important to report. My minesweepers are making a good job cleaning Wake Sebang and Paramushiro Jima from allied mines.
my Bombardment TF is 2 days from Kiska Island. No recon available. Let's hope in some rain to get through his naval recon and hit some bombers on the ground...it's damned risky!
Tomorrow my KB will be reorganized at Truk and will sail towards Java with the invasion TF.
Baker Island gained level 3 AF...Tarawa is going to be a hot spot[:(]

New House rule
We've agreed on a new house rule: Japanese LCUs , attached to the Chinese HQ, won't move towards India or Russia.
So there won't be any new advance of the Japanese Armies in Burma[:(]. I'll have to wait and see how those damned british hurt....
My Bomb TF is getting unseen close to Kiska Island in the Aleutinas. Tomorrow night we'll bomb the place and we'll rush back.
The redeployment of my naval assets in south pacific is taking more time than what expected. The first convoys left truk today but many units are still on their way from Wake island...it's going to be a long logistical July[:D]
The assault on the last chinese cities has begun. Those forts will take some time tough....
Planning another visit on Akyab with my bombers...we'll wait for a clear moon-shining night...

RE: New House rule
[:(]As predicted, my Naval Bombardment TF , without any recon, did not achieve any result. Unlucly there's no way to recon that base so far, so i have to wait and see what to do in the next months in this sector ( the northern one), where i aspect a growing allied activity.
The second day of the battle for Kungchang was less bloody than yesterday. I did not achieve any good result, so tomorrow i'll order another mass attack!
The usual daily bombings in Burma and at Hanoi[:(]

RE: New House rule
I fear the end is comming...do not have any specific infos, but i know the allied blow is gonna come---just don't know where...
The Planning for Timor goes on. 5 divisions , 4 eng rgts, 4 tank rgts and some smaller units will be involved. The 48th div. will stay in reserve at Sosabaja where it's being transfered in these days. 4 CVs( 2 CVs +1 CVL and 1 CVE) will remain at Truk along with 25 DDs, 4 CLs, 4 CAs and 2 BBs, in order to be ready to defend the eastern area if the allies decide to hit here while i'm busy at Timor.
Really looking forward to have my tonies...20 more days and i should have my first sentais ready with the brand new planes.
Things in China are going smoothly. The northern china should be secured within the end of August.
I'm quite sure he transfered all the west coast planes to india, passing trhough russia...it's gonna be a bloody mess up there when he'll decide to engage at Day instead of keeping raiding my bases at Night.

RE: New House rule
4 more days of war. Getting fast to the end of July...looking forward for my tonies!
Nothing serious happened. He keeps bombing my bases in south pac ( lunga,Pm,Lae,Gili) and my troops in Burma: gotta turn some of those guys at Mandalay and Mytikyna with those sitting at rangoon.
I managed to get some hit to Akyab on the 22nd of July. Not very good results, but it boosts my morale a bit

I finally managed to take Kungchang. Now i'm driving towards Sinsin( sp? ). I'll get some more VPs there, then my offensive in the big asian Continent will be ended...and the sorrow will come[:(]
got some problems with fuel.....no fuel for the upcomming invasion of timor...i'm getting crazy trying to collect some of it in my not-used bases, like Camabara bay or Saigon...but it's going to be a tough attempt
He now has 20000 men at Kiska Island which is already at level 5 AF....no way to take it...gonna try to bomb it with my bbs but i'm very tense about his bombers
Sub mines are still an unsolved problem

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/23/42
What to say....everything seems to be quite. No sign of any allied heavy naval activity. He's building up Baker,Thursday and Lungaville, but these are not unknown news. It's still difficult to understand where he's going to attack. I'd say PM at this stage, 'cause he has thursday island very close to it ( now it's already at level 3 AF)....
I'm building up my mid-perimeter bases in DEI and in PI.
I keep training my air units. When my tonies will come i'll have more than 200 pilots over 80 exp!!

Hey Hoepner..
That's a lot of trained Tonies! Surely you'll be able to slow down the allied heavy bombers with all those [:D]
I'm surprised he hasn't started bombing from Kiska yet (I am building it up very rapidly in my game as well).
What's the situation like in the Canton/Nanomea/Tarawa area?

RE: a cold summer
I really hope that you have expanded and repaired Tony factories, so that you can just switch them on on the August 1st and they would start rolling with full capacity...
I guess you will need at least 200 a month.
One tip: You will need Tojo as well, it is also great, and can do one thing that nor Tony nor A6M3 can do - intercept B17 at it's highest altitude...
200 B17s flying at 36600 feet can ruin your day if your AF is full of planes...

RE: a cold summer
The area between Baker-Canton and Nanoumea atoll is completely in his hands now. Few weeks ago, i tried to intercept with my betties the convoys that brought men and supplies to baker, in order to slow down its growing, but the losses were too high( strong Wildcats and P-40E CAP ) and i decided that it was not worth to waste so many experienced crews.
Now Baker will be at Level 4 AF in few days i guess, then i'll have to evacuate all my bombers from Tarawa, 'cause i already know his tactic: night-bomb my AF for a month or so and then throw the b-25s and the b-17s at day when my daitais will be almost depleted.
I'll put back at Kwalajein my betties and my zeros and will leave some 30 tonies there to slow his pace of advance in the Marshalls.
At Noumea i really do not know what's happening. I've alrady evacuated every air group from Lunga to Munda and i'm waiting now for his next attack in this area that will start, for sure, from Lungaville, which is now a very big base ( 6AF-4 port).
My factories are ready to produce 170 tonies / month and almost 50 Tojos. I'm planning to stop for some weeks the A6M2 production ( i've alrady have almost 1000 zeros stocked) and boost a bit more the tonies and tojos ones.

Bad summer news
Two more days of bloody war for the Empire.
My plans for Timor have been unrevealed. He's evacuating part of his garrison units with subs, and that means that he knows i'm comming[:(]
My BBs , after 2 weeks of heavy recon, managed to score only 1 Air base hit at Kiska Island[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@] How in the world is that possible?!
Tried another night mission at Akyab. Destroyed 37 enemy planes but lost 10 during the operation( some of which destroyed on the ground at Mouleim by a preventive allied attack).
The worse news is probably the new night bombing activity over Bankok. Now my most important base for the Burma theatre is in danger and in two days i've already lost 5 planes[:(][:-]
Will try something new with bombings, but i'm experiencing a shortage of sallies ( only 31 stocked ) and Lilies ( 45 stocked). Had to increment the production of these 2 planes.

RE: Bad summer news
Just a thought....what about introducing a house rule that limits night bombing missions against specialized targets to specialized night fighter units only?
Level and medium bombers were only good at hitting large cities during night bombing missions in WWII - thus city attack should be the only role for them.
Gawd knows that even finding a city during the middle of the night was outside of their capabilities.
