My initial reaction was AR-15, but the magazine is not quite right.

We went to Maryland and New Jersey to see some of my family and then we spent Saturday and Sunday in Lanmcaster, PA where I attended Historicon. I played Close Action for 2 days.

On Saturday I was part of the French Navy commanding a 74 SOL, Robuste. We defeated a Royal Navy force in a scenario from 1781. [8D]

On Sunday I switched sides and was commanding a British 90 SOL, Union. I had to leave early but we were winning when I had left. We had dismasted the Robuste and 3 or 4 other of their vessels were in bad shape. I had lost a mast on the Union but she was still in the thick of it.[8D]

Sounds like a lot of fun, Bruce. [:)]

What part of Maryland? I'm originally from Baltimore.

I'll bet you had a blast! I'm already doing the planning to make it up there next year.

Did you get to meet Mark? He's an interesting character he is.

Mark ran the game. He was also the British Fleet Admiral on Saturday.
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

Pine Island just over the Bay bridge.

He runs most Close Action games you can find at the cons. And yes, he does run a tight ship. Absolutely necessary in order to get it done.

Dear Thread, Denver has tied its old record 18 consecutive days at 90 degrees or above. Blech.

Yes and the weather man keeps teasing us by saying..."but it's going to cool off in 3-4 days"...and it never does.

Summers are definitely hotter since I moved here in 84.

LOL, I remember when St. Mary's Glacier was actually a glacier and not a snow field. The heat is bad enough Parker road was buckling this weekend. Perhaps I should invest in some property in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is gorgeous...in the summer. I don't actually mind the heat as long as I don't have to work in it.  I would rather be sweating the freezing my @## off. [;)]

I was up at St Mary's glacier last year...shocking how small it's gotten.

The only problem with Winnipeg is the mosquitoes. Thats why I like to be up there just after the first freeze kills them off. Personally I prefer cold to hot but that comes from being stationed at Ft. Drum and then being deployed to hottest places they could find for us[:@].

Did I mention that Army vehicles generally have no AC? Add that to all your gear and most of our uniforms were white from salt after a day or two. Plus they could stand on their own.[8|]

Nobody, huh...? Okay, guess the gas has gone outta the balloon.

The rifle is an AR-10. Designed by Eugene Stoner (no surprise there). This particular weapon was made in the Netherlands (in 7.92mm caliber) to be used by the Portuguese army in the 1960s and 70s...

Interesting. It was obviously a relative of the M16 (an ancestor in this case), which is why I thought AR-15 at first.

I sympathize. Early in my career I worked as an environmental scientist on Superfund sites. I worked mostly on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal cleanup. I spent many, many hours dressed up in Level B or higher protective gear. As you can imagine these suits are impermeable to everything, including sweat. It's like sealing yourself up in your own personal basting bag. To keep cool we wore vests filled with "ice" (that chemical stuff you freeze and put in your cooler). The temperature difference between donning the vests in the shade, working sealed up in your suit, and going through decon, could be so extreme that if you didn't transition slowly you could go into shock and pass out...which happened to me once...ah, those were the days. It looks really weird, with the wooden furniture and the wonky barrel.
