IIRC Kitakami is one of the pair of IJN "torpedo cruisers", with few guns but bristling with Long Lance tubes. Devonshire is a lucky ship to have closed to 1,000 yards, and dodged all the torpedoes!
You are correct, but I didn't see any torpedoes launched! Opening salvo landed hits...probably upset their torpedo spread somewhat.

Kitakami also upgrades to the Kaiten....high dud rate, high hit rate if you make it that deep into the game.

Jan 9th, 1943

The destruction of the surrounded IJA 4th Division on the road south of Akyab continues. 200 combat squads destroyed over the last two days for no losses...Japan has 25 units and 130K troops below Shwebo...IJA tanks look to cut one of the rough roads SW of Chungking with 6 armored units and the 2 IJA tank divisions on the long lonely mountain road west of Chungking seem to be heading all the way back to Chungking Plains.

Took one base today, and take Ankang tomorrow.

Lots happening elsewhere, just haven't had time to do comprehensive updates: IJ retake Kusaie (Japan loses a destroyer and a small minelayer, US loses 2 destroyers), Solomons campaign going super well, Nauru invasion preparing, Perth campaign progressing....

Our Humbers raced into Perth and grabbed it....Desert Rats I guess. They were in the forefront on the campaign here, often getting chewed up by enemy bombers, but they stayed tough and accomplished every mission.

Nauru Invasion loading...actually have some tanks on a LST for it...

Curious to see what Japan does in China...encircle Chungking first, or drive on the mountain roads to Kunming.

Good night time turn...plus 7 planes destroyed on the ground by our less than 50 2E bombers hitting the runways at night.

Heavy fighting in China and Burma...Japan still defending forward in Burma, and we are looking to cut across the plains with our tanks, Aus & Indian Divs -- taking the rail lines to Rangoon.

China's fighter squadrons pretty much will be reserved for low risk duty over the next 8 months, until the P40N shows up....as the pools are gone.

Transitioning our subs to attack Japanese merchant shipping...going to try to allocate 4 subs to each area that is within range....but I still need to use them transporting supplies and as pickets.

I am hoping to have troops in the Moluccas sometime in March...without risking the fleet carriers.

Good news at Marcus as two IJN destroyers most likely sunk...by hitting mines.

Bad news on the Nauru/Kusaie Island front....I guess I have forgot most of whatever I once knew of island invasions. I thought shock attacks were only on atolls. My bad.

I set up the operation to only unload in the afternoon...

Do follow up invasions trigger shock attacks too? I am not sure! Oh well...

My understanding is that any time you unload more AV, there will be a shock attack. Unloading supply only does not trigger and I think landing support squads with no AV should not trigger.

I thought it was only atolls too

So any landing on an island triggers a shock attack?
