Running the Sim / Save function (Win ME)

Post by Kikka »

Hi! New to the Pacific War forum. Played the boxed game ages ago and loved it. The Computer version by matrix is infinitely better!

HOWEVER, I downloaded in Win ME, the game runs fine when I double-click on the icon or .exe; but, none of the buttons appear and ALT-Q won't end the game, and I can't save a scenario in progress. I have to kill by using CNTRL-ALT-DEL.

Anyone else had this problem? A bug? How do I get the buttons at the bottom of the screen to appear and the save function to work in Win ME?

Thanks,
-Kikka

I think a lot of hard coded "toes" were inadvertently stepped on with the extensive OOB remakes that were necessary to get all of the 2.3 changes in. I'm dreading a v 2.4 with the "elimination" of China and reassigning the bases to other HQs. Its going to be interesting to watch though.

I think I'll look into incorporating some of the less drastic 2.3 changes into 2.2 by hand, unless a revised OOB is released because there is too much "popping up" going on. It's hard enough tracking all your own units without having to worry about enemy units popping up where they shouldn't.
Still playing PacWar (but no so much anymore)...

Have torpedos been tweaked for v2.3? I've just run a batch of 25 Campaign 1941 Historical Starts, and it seems that the IJN always sinks at least five of the US BBs at Oahu, quite often six, sometimes seven, and once in a while all eight!

OTOH, Prince of Wales seems to survive roughly two times out of three; and Repulse also survives nearly half the time (though I've also seen Repulse lost to a single torpedo a couple of times). So I'm not sure what to think.
Some days you're the windshield.
Some days you're the bug.
