Why is that strange? They were loaded to the gills (sorry) with diesel. Essentially you have a tube full of combustibles and a source of oxygen - a very bad place to be if you respirate O2.

The IJN is in a state of shock. The Akagi took a torpedo from a Stringbag. It was the fault of the High Command for getting greedy in the rampage of the 3/4 KB through the SRA. Numerous ships of all kinds were sent to the bottom, but the 3/4 KB was running on fumes as it tried to clear the area, and had to stop at Kuching to take what fuel was available for it to continue on its journey to ####### ######. While in port, a pathetically small strike attacked and managed to put a fish into our carrier. Damage is Sys ##, Float ##, and Fires ##, so you can easily see the Akagi will be out of the war for ## [units of time]. She might even ##### ##### ###### to port. Intelligence has ascertained that this is the same British squadron who torpedoed two BB's off Mersing not too long ago, so the Emperor has decreed that any prisoners captured from this squadron be treated to ######### treatment, brave souls they are.

Day Air attack on TF, near Kuching at 27,56

The game action has slowed down a bit the slat few days.  I figure AU is gathering forces for a push towards Palembang or East Borneo.  I have recovered somewhat from the loss of shipping at Sorabaja with the mid January slug of transport reinforcements.  I have just been trying to build suppy and fuel in the usual places and waiting for the next invasions.  KB has fallen off the radar since leaving Kuching.  One AVG squad got cought as I tried to catch some unescorted bombers in China - lost alot of planes to Zero's that were not supposed to be there but most of the pilots ar OK [:D].  Sub ops continue, ASW has improve on both sides.  I think AU has learned not to park subs in base hexes for too long.  Its going to be a long grind till 43 and a turning of the tide - no pun intended or maybe so.[:'(]

More likely that the fire will burn up the remaining oxygen, suffocating the crew...

The ASW wars have turned into bulletproof Allied subs laughing at my lame small boys.

Addendum post:

I have almost ZERO experience in offensive land combat, and have been sacrificing the sons of Nippon at a prodigious rate in 0:1 attacks in China. With the CHS map my troops are badly dispersed and therefore I am seemingly impotent to get the ball rolling in an offensive. Anyone with some advice please PM me.

Well it is Feb 6, 1942 and several major operations are starting to unfold.  Tiger has started to move on the small islands of central PI.  I still hold Manila, Clark and Singers.  There has not been any sightings of KB since the Kaga caught a torp on exit from the Java strike.  I did manage to maul a bombardment TF working over PM with all four of my carriers Mutsu took 15 bombs and several CAs took hits although only one CL and one DD sank.  The range was tooo far for my torpedo planes ti get in on the action.  I also screwed up by not setting one of my CV TFs to ful speed so it was lagging behind.  Tiger also sent in the baby KB,  It got hammered pretty hard but no sinkings reported.  He did manage to retalliate with a good number of kates that put several torps into the Yorktown which later sunk.  The error in having both TFs together cost me in coordinated attacks and combined CAP.  This should draw out KB if Tiger has further plans for PM.

Hmmm... does this mean that you'll have to take down your banner? Or just put a black bar across the top? [;)]
