I will try the Blitz. I actually saw him once in his hometown when he stopped by a function I was doing with our honor guard.

Jason,
Just checked out your units...Did you do those? I think some of the artwork is superior to that of the original...I am extremely impressed! With such skills you know, don't you, that you will be getting a monster graphics wish list once we start talking patches.
This thing is going to be very worth the wait.

Thanks Ladmo. Too kind. I did most of the new units for East Front, although some were borrowed from West Front and the Blitz's PB#1.
Take care and good luck

Compliments on the new units. They look great!
It'll be interesting to see how this all works. Planes didn't have unit graphics with values. There weren't airfield units. There weren't recon planes. There weren't bridging engineers. What's a Soviet dog unit? Is it a penal unit?

There are two units that have dogs; the mine clearing unit which had dogs trained at sniffing out mines and the NKVD border partol squad that utilized dogs for security.

There are TRAINS! Cool. Even more reason to get this. And fair warning, I'm gonna smack the first poster who complains about having to pay $$ for a reissue of a ten year old game. Not a threat, just fair warning [;)]
RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series
I see there's even a dog in the dog unit artwork. Cool. I read somewhere where the Soviets even trained dogs to run under tanks, and when the Germans came, the Soviets attached mines to the back of the dogs, so they'd explode after running under the German tanks. I didn't know about these other uses of dogs, but it makes sense. This is another example of what I loved about the Campaign Series.
I'm wondering what the function of the supply and camp units will be. I don't recall reading anything about supply being reworked. Without a programer, I would think the ability to rework it would be limited. On the other hand, if I remember correctly, Talonsoft's Napoleonic Battleground Series had functional supply wagons. Will the supply and camp units be behind the line units with high point values that you have to protect and the enemy tries to find and destroy, like HQs? Regardless, it looks like you all loved the game and had fun tweaking it.
The 2D you provided looks crisper than I remember them.
Thanks for all the courteous and prompt replies.

The (possibly apocryphal) tale goes that the Soviets trained "mine dogs" to run under tanks, but when it came to actual action they couldn't tell German tanks from Soviet models...

Oops. Back to the drawing board. Another fine mess.

A little advertizing doesn't harm I guess...
Here are some maps made in old Talonsoft version.

Will convert the scns to Matrix version as soon as I have the game ofcourse.
To those who have been away from the game a while I would say: forget about most of the old stock scns, but start collecting custum scenarios. Over the years the quality of the better custom scns has surpassed anything that was originally included in the old Talonsoft cds. I have no idea if there are new scns included in the new release though, would be great.

I actaully looked up info on the Mine Dog project once. I was a Soviet program where they trained dogs to run under tanks. The soviets fitted the dogs with a backpack with a big switch, so that when they went under the tanks they would blow up. The biggest problem with the program was that they trained the dogs with soviet tanks. So in battle with all the noise and confusion the dogs would look for the most familier place; which of course was under a soviet tank.
Serves them right for trying to use a dog that way.
Thanks,
Duncan

While I understand your frustration, but it is the teams goal to revamp this system and add some long awaited additions and fixes. Hopefully the first patch will reveal some of the direction we would like to go.
Take care and good luck

I think the new 2D map you just posted looks great.
Id just like to see some moe detailed and nicer looking counters. I dont know how easy that is to do with the current engine but it would certainly make me purchase the game. In 2D view it always looked so bland. Now the maps look great. Just the counters need an upgrade. As to what i was thinking, well more like the DB or BF series counters, at least up to TOAW counters would be nice. Something a little less bland and some deeper colours. The current/old counters always looked a little washed out. HPS sims is a good example of bland looking unit counters. The DB series is probably a bit too much for this level of gaming, so prehaps something in between would be nice. Defintely some rich colours would help alot. Prehaps thicken up the edges of the couters to give them more depth and make the font/lines inside a little thicker.

Just some kind of encryption system for pbem would alone make it worth the asking price [:)]

RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series
Regarding units, are there any Soviet penal units? My understanding is the Soviets would have penal units whose job was to find the minefields by walking through them and to locate German defensive positions by deliberately drawing fire. My understanding is they would often not even be armed. In the context of the game, I've often wanted a throw-away unit to test the terrain for mines or to test the hex for opportunity fire. The Soviets had such units -- the penal units. The unit would have no or very little fire or assault power. The units might even be able to reduce a minefield after it has taken a certain level of casualties.
RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series
My question is probably trivial but here goes. The base under each unit is this supposed give the game a feel of playing with miniatures?
It seems akward to my mind set but this is not a negative comment. It just, I have not played miniatures so I feel more comfortable with soldiers without the base.
A point to make is I never played played or owned the game but love tactical combat on this level (Close Combat). I will watch with interest all comments on this game. From a perspective buyer.
