partisons silliness

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

I am trying to push to see if we can get partisans patched so that:
1)  They are optional
2)  They appear only in conquered countries or Russia

Those would be good changes - the current system sucks!

The comment somehwere above that garrisons are perfect for countering partisans is plain silly. Garrisons are fine for garrisoning cities. If the Soviet partisans went after the cities, than the garrisons would be fine for countering them. The Soviet partisans do not go after the cities. They pop up in the hinterlands and start marching across teh countryside turning it into Soviet controlled teritory. The garrisons are far too slow to ever be capable of chasing the partisans down effectively.

I wonder if you've actually played the game??[&:][&:]

not to argue, but I think we can say the same ? I have very rarely seen Partisans that are garrisons, most of the ones I see say Corps, I know the 2 Finnish ones that showed up, were both Corps strength, as were the 2 that popped up in Romy

I think they should only be Garrison size units and agree that they should only control the hex they are in

Teched up Axis garrisons are more than a match for Partisans....which are themselves low tech garrison units that are out of supply. Garrisons are cheap - if you're only buying enough to sit them in cities then you too are cheap and it's no wonder you're having problems.

You do actually have to do some work to keep partisans down.........that's teh whole point of them![8|]

I'm wondering the same thing of you. Partisan's just don't pop up near the cities garrisons are, well, garrisoning, for the garrisons to be viable forces in hunting down the partisans. Partisnas pop up just about as far away from cities as is physically possible. Which means that by the time the slow moving garrisons have finally caught up with the partisans a large swath of territory has reverted to Soviet control and spawned even more partisans. Garrisons SUCK at partisan hunting. It's apparent you have not fought a battle ove the Ural mountains with the vastness of Russia behind you! The suggestion I have already made is a simple answer. Restructure things so they give Soviet control only to the hexes they occupy and not to hexes the move out of.

ps. they aren't cheap in agme where Germany is runs out of manpower in late 1943.

keep on trying to defend the current implementation....I'm finding it very amusing.[:D]
