The numbers were close Joe, MI has the numbers at total AC at 229 operational, 278 on board CarDiv1 & 2. The 21 zero's of the 6th AirGrp were split, 6-Akagi, 9-Kaga, 3-Hiryu & 3-Soryu, apparently only three, all on Akagi, were operational for carrier duty. This is straight from the book.
