US lost all the airgroups on the carriers, including 81 F4-3/4 Wildcat, 99 SBD-3 Dauntless and 54 TBD Devastator, 234 aircrafts in total and equal amount of elite pilots.

Japanese lost 18 B5N2 Kates, 13 A6M2 Zeros and 3 D3A2 Vals. In total 34 aircrafts and equal amount of extremely elite pilots. No ships losses.

The first strike wave(38 zeros and 161 Kates) finish taking off and grouping. Led by LT Mori, S., the assult commander, flying towards the US fleet.
There is no signs by now that Americans knows the mighty KB is only 180 knots southwest of them. Everything is fine and it looks like the Japan will win the greatest victory ever against the evil Americans and that maybe the end of the war.

After one hour flying, the attack group find the US fleet. The escort Zeros are spotted by the cap fighters of US fleet.

Escort zeros engage with cap F4F-3/4 fighters. The american pilots are well trained but their fighters are out dated and they are great outnumbered. They stand no chance against the swift zeros and most of the Kates break through the cap.

US carriers now is scattered and fleeing towards three directions get heavy smoke around them. LT Mori, S. divide the Kates to 3 sub groups, each groups has two daitai of Kates. And they will attack the 3 carriers seperately.

Kates drop to 200ft and start torpedo attack with diamond formation. Several Kates are shot down by the deperate and furious American AAs.

Cpt of Akagi A-1 Daitai, LCDR Murata S., who is the first one manage to hit Lexington, also report that there are not much american aircrafts on the deck.
Yamaguchi is alerted. The American aircrafts may be on the way to Johnston Island and they might have changed the course and would be here anytime. Order is given, the second strike wave(including 8 zeros, 78 kates and 28 vals) take off immediately to make sure every single US carrier is sunk. All the zeros left, around 160, takes off and stay at 8000ft for cap mission.

The first strike ends, Lexington is hit by 9 torpedos, Saratoga get 10 hits, Enterprise is lucky, but not enough, she get 6 torpedos penertrate her. All the three carriers lost their power, each one takes thousands tons of water and starts sinking. All the imperial aircrafts begin flying back to the KB.

The Enterprise air group follows one of the damaged kate and finds KB. They notify the Lexington and Saratoga air group by radio then start the attack immediately. Unfortunetly, they are now outnumbered by the 160 cap zeros. The American pilots know there is no way back. They fight bravely and nobly tillt the last breath and earn the eternal glory.

Lexington air group arrives, followed by Saratoga air group about 2 minutes late. However, they fail to coordinate the attack and every single one of them is shot down by the zeros. Not even one of the US planes manage to break through the cap. Japan win a 100% pure victory today!!

The second the strike wave arrives and they find nothing but 3 abandoned, sinking American carriers.
Several wildcats survived in the first strike is shot down. Several other ones run out of fuel and crush.

Political Consequence of Battle of Johnston Island


After the Battle of Johnston, the only threaten of the Combined Fleet is wiped out and there is nothing can stop the invasion of Divine Nipon both on Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean.

Royal Navy is weak, lack of heavy warships, though their reinfocements are on the way, there is no way for Royal Navy to fight the Combined fleet independently. And Churchhill may reconsider sending carriers and battleships to the far east war area. They are also precious possessions for the Battle of Europe.

The strength of US Pacific Fleet is greatly attenuated, Japan won at least one year to expande its territory and strenghten the defense.

The connections between India, Australia, New Zealand and United States are totally cut off now. Burma will fall in 10 days and then PHI for may be another month. Anyone of the four areas will fall quickly under the Japanese full strength seige. There is a possibility that Australia and New Zealand may quit the war and sign peact treat with Japan.

President Tomik falls into deep depression and desperation. He thought the siutation for the Allies is so bad that there is almost no hope for allies to fight back even in 1945. He need several days to do the obituary for all the dead and then the Japanese HQ get some time for a summary work.[:D]

Here is the intelligence information on 01/13/42

As you can see, Japanese lost 85 ships! dure the first 5 weeks of war. Including BB Nagato, CA Haguro, CL Jinstu, CS Chiyoda and CS Mizuho and 3 DDs, 7 warships in total.

All the 78 ships are around 30 MSWs lost in two mine sweep mission(sunk by the coast guns), 2 AVs, several valuable cargo ships and around 40 cheap small ships like PG, PC and AK, AP. They are all lost in invasion, sunk mostly by mines and submarines. Dutch subs did an amazing job in the first a few weeks of war.

Allies lost 298 ships, including 3CVs, 6BB/BCs(POW never comes up in the intelligence screen but I'm sure it was scuttled), 5 CAs, 9 CLs, and 25 DDs, 48 warships in total.

The VP ratio is almost 3:1 by now and I'm sure after PHI, Burma falls, I can gain much VPs than this.
