How do you build forts in a city? Is it possible to build them on an airfield? Do you have to demo the airfield first then build the fort?

I thought it would make the city even more stronger in defense. Perhaps That did not occur though.

Most of the cities are not cities (location type over a terrain type) but just urban areas (just a terrain type).  So I guess you could fortify on top.

Personal diary of FM Leeb:

September 20, 1941

This week the siege of Lennigrad began. 18th Army managed to capture a subburb of the city and completely destroy the barricades in another part of Lennigrad. Also taking steps to tighten blockade around Lennigrad.

4th Panzer, once again a whole army, is fast apporaching Tikhvin. On the way they managed to capture another Soviet command HQ.

The Finns continue to pressure Lennigrad from the north and draw off troops from our frontlines.

In the south, 16th Army is racing across the steppes unopposed. They are fast approaching the Voga River crossing near a large reservoir and also the city of Kalinin on a short road to Moscow itself!

Losses this week continue to be low. Partisans attacked our road junction depot at Libau but were crushed without mercy.
OKW has promised us some Special Forces troops to help disrupt the Soviet supply lines. We'll see how well this works...

Personal diary of FM Leeb:

September 27, 1941

This week the Fins put on a major push and capture the last hold out of the old Mannerhiem Line fortresses.

The Luftwaffe also had a grand time sinking supply barges on Lake Lagoda.

18th Army kept the pressure on Lennigrad from the south with more bombardments. Also they captured Novaya Ladoga and a second port on the shores of Lake Ladoga, with the help from the promised special forces - Hungarian paratroopers. This should seal off Lennigrad from any further supplies.

Meanwhile, 4th Panzer has captured Tikhvin and started down the highway to the Russian interior.

16th Army has their drive on the Volga RIver. They captured Kalinin and came to a blown bridge just south of the Volga Reservoir. They also found another blown bridge just north of the reservoir. We will now have to coordinate our maneuvers with AGC in this area.... Moscow is very near....

Losses for this week and for the entire campaign to date. We have done very well and have recieved word that new, highly trained troops are being sent our way. THis will help in the coming battles. The weather is starting to turn cold and the leaves are falling off the few trees there are in this vast land. With so few roads and rails, I'd hate to be caught out here when the weather turns bad......

Keep pushing them. The battle for moscow seems like it will be fun. Hopefully teh soviets are saving all their resources for moscow to defend. Or have they been throwing in their troops piece meal?

I'm playing AGC... Moscow is well defended. And under the command of the very capable Tom Weber. Taking the city will be a major effort.

Personal diary of FM LEEb:

October 4, 1941

18th Army and the Finnish Army managed to break into Lennigrad proper this week, following a massive air, naval and artillery bombardment. The last path for supplies to the belegered city was also sealed off.

4th Panzer continued it's drive in to the Russian hinterland. once they cross the northern part of the Volga it's once again tank country.

October 4, 1941 continued...

Overall a fairly quiet week. There is a small uprising near Veliki Luki but rear area troops were dispatched to surround and destroy the small force.

Low losses for the week...

Personal diary of FM Leeb:

Oct. 11, 1941

Lennigrad is mostly in German hands! This week, in a series of ferocious battles with teh starving defenders of Lennigrad, the combined might of the Finnish and 18th Armies reduced the Lennigrad pocket to just a small area surrounding the port on Lake Ladoga.

Oct. 11, 1941 continued...

4th Panzer continued it's race east and stumbled upon the Soviet North-West Front main HQ! THis HQ was badly mauled but managed to just avoid complete capture.

THe tail end of 4th Panzer was suprised by the sudden appearance of a large consentration of Soviet armour in the city of Tikhvin, tought to be already firmly under German control. With the aid of the Luftwaffe, this pocket was completely destroyed. A permanent garrison has been placed there to make sure this doesn't happen again.
