RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
Singapore Falls on March 15, 1942....the Emperor welcomes the new citizens of his Empire!!
Aside from a few brigades that will stay in Singapore on garrison duty, General Yamashita's army is being redeployed....where will it go? To the Phillipines to help with the ongoing seize of Manila? To complete the conquest of Java? To Burma to help attack Mandalay? Many options....

RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
Summary of latest war developments. The game date is 2nd of April 1942.
As FDR stated Singapore has now fallen. The imminent result has been the invasion of Java.
Japanese have landed at Merak. At the moment 10 units present and more are propably enroute. KB is also in the scene. Allied airforce have hit several transports and at least 2 cruisers.
Because of the FOW the end results are uncertain. Hopefully some of these ships will sink.
I'am trying my utmost the keep things intresting in this game so I'am fighting in the DEI.
At Manila the stand off continues. Daily raids by +200 bombers are unpleasant for the allied troops.
In China there has been some fighting. Both sides have routed couple of infantry units near Changhsa.
In Southern Pacific Japanese navy intercepted some allied transport vessels at Solomon Island. Resulting to one sided massacre.
Allied HQ have stated that there will be more allied operations planned for 1942.
Thus far we have sunk 40 Japanese ships and lost +140 vessels of our own. The aircraft losses have been high too. Almost 2000 enemy aircraft destroyed so far.
Overall I'am sticking to my gameplan... flexible and aggressive... those are the two words more suited for the short describtion.
RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
The battle of Java continues. Both sides are inflicting heavy casualties.
First enemy troops have now entered Batavia. In total + 1000 assault value.
Several transports and few warships have been hit near Batavia too.
Allied airforce launched heavy airstrikes againts Palempang on the 6th and 7th of April. (Combat reports below)

RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
The Allied HQ final report on battle of Java
This battle will end soon. Enemy have seized 90% of Java and will soon enter Soerebaja where the final alamo will take place.
FDR did good job on swinging the pinzer movement here. The landings at Tijitap and Merak cut the Java in half. I did not expect this. However I did make a blunder here... I ordered my defenders from Batavia to move to Soerebaja. I should have remembered the Witp land movement model. This order meant that my troops did not move via railway hexes... instead they took the long journey. This meant that I gave these troops for free when they could have played move important role.
Here are some positive and negative things:
+ It will be May 1942 when the final battle is done.
+ I did force FDR to use his KB in this assault. This meant that I knew where his carriers where and did not have worry about them.
+ Already there are +60 ships sunk here which I consider nice amount. Mostly AP's and AK's but CVL Zuiho was also lost.
+ We did destroy hundreds of enemy aircrafts here. My estimate is anywhere between 500-800 planes.
- The earlier mentioned land movement mistake made by me when Batavia was doomed.
- I could have been even more aggressive now that I look at the situation. Hindsight is always easy... well we did well anyway.
There are still few battles to be fought but the tide will soon change focus. Where will FDR heasd out? I have no idea. All I know is that I have plans of my own which will bring a lot of blood out of the enemy.
Stay tuned.

RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
Some thoughts from FDR's perspective
I had moved too slowly in the beginning but have quickened the pace. As my operational tactics in Java showed, I tend to take the "indirect" approach and am a fan of flanking maneuvers when possible. I don't like frontal assaults on fixed positions and try to avoid them when possible.
Java should not last much longer. After that I need to clean up some remnant outposts in the DEI. And I must break Manilla. New supplies and fresh troops have been shipped in here, while daily bombing raids and artillery bombardment continue. I got a 1-1 result on my most recent attack but casualties were heavy.
Aztez's B-17 force, flying at 15,000 feet, has wrecked havoc on my shipping. I can't provide air cover for every convoy, but the American devil fliers seem to have extraordinary accuracy. This is most annoying and rather a-historical at this point in the war, and in the next version of my mod something will be done to reduce this...fewer 4-engine bombers or less experienced crews to start off with.
Aztez is a very skilled and dangerous opponent. But I have some tricks up my sleeve as well, as the Java pincer movement showed.

Yeah, my bombers definately have caused havoc around DEI.
As for the B17's. Well, I wouldn't say that they have been only ones hitting transports around Java. No, there have been Beauforts and B25's plus other bombers in action too which have been accurate.
So, I would not go adjusting things too much. Allied don't have much to fight at beginning. Actually mostly bombers so by taking these things out will result into boring Sir Robin games. I don't see much fun in that.
Manila holds but not for long... but the base has served it's purpose already.

RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
Oh, the only thing I would change is the B-17s...fewer of them would be more accurate at this point of the war I think. Perhaps I'm just bitter that in my games as the allies I have never had a B-17 hit a damn thing at 15,000 feet, whereas you have sunk a carrier and numerous other ships. Perhaps just bad luck....though I have nightmares still about 24 bombs hitting Zuiho from 15,000 feet...

RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
Definately two edge sword here. Yeah, my bombers have done extremely well at Java. I noticed that the ship total for sunken ships is almost 110!!! I think at least 80 of them were lost in the battle of Java! [X(] Not to count any damaged ships or such!
Lets just say that this is my 6th allied start and I have learned few tricks on how use the LBA bombers. You get first few hits and you build it from there. Nothing else... mass power with good leaders can work wonders!
You have hurt my 4E pools badly already! So, these victories have not come in cheap prize! Now I need reorganize and start other operations. There are few planned already and... well... I do need take into consideration what you are going to do too.

RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
I don't mean to come off as complaining too much, more jealous that you had such success with your bomber force but in my other PBEM game where I am the allies they proved useless. Of course the other game was CHS, that might make a difference.
Fear God and Dread Nought
RE: Aztez (a) vs FDRLincoln (j) (FDR Mod)
Yeah. It might be diffrent with CHS. I have had good experience with Allied LBA bombers in Stock and Big B mod.
That is when I have gotten hang of it on how to maximize the bombers effectively.
In game terms the final battles are raging in Manila and Soerebaja. Mini KB sunk our transports in Southern Pacific. That was not nice.
Also we have had some air to air combats in Burma and China. Quite bloody affairs too.

US carriers clash with KB near Solomons
Wow... action packed turn... first the game date is 20th of May 1942
I did spot the KB few days earlier North of Lunga. I have no idea whether my carriers were but the enemy had its sights on Lunga.
Either way I did deciede to engage the enemy and our forces did good job! I can confirm that CV Hornet was sunk. None of the enemy carriers have yet to appeared on the confirmed sunk list though! So, it is hard to say how of this FOW!
I will post the combat replay on how things went. Please note there are some LBA bombers and fighters joining the action too!
Also, I will post combat reports from Burma. We had another big air to air battle there.

RE: US carriers clash with KB near Solomons
I knew the enemy carriers were near Lunga and suspected that the cruiser force loitering in the area was "bait" to lure KB into battle. I accepted this battle deliberately knowing it was a risk, since I calculated it was better to fight a carrier battle now while US AA is relatively weak, my pilots are still strong, and the US is still using Devastator torpedo planes.
I can confirm that no Japanese carriers have sunk as a result of this battle.

Leaders. Optimise your leaders. It makes all the difference between mediocre results and great results. Here's a little crib for you.
1. You start with poor pilots. Put in high INSPIRATION leaders with low aggression so that they fly every day but don't press attacks in the face of enemy fighters. If you are aiming for SEA targets then having good naval skill does, IMO, help. I can't prove this but my Nell and Betty units with high NAVAL Exp leaders do seem to do better all other things being equal.
2. Once their experience hits 65 to 70% switch to your best bomber leaders ( those with the highest air, moderate aggression and NAVAL skills above 30 ). You'll see results.

Well, that's that settled then.

I think we have found the sync bug! Our combat reports differ quite a lot! [:D]
Hopefully this will be fixed once AE is launched.
I can confirm that CV Hornet is sunk. As for the Japanese CV Soryu, CV Hiryu, CV Junyo and unconfirmed CVL is lost. I do not have any intel on how badly rest of the Japanese carrier fleet was hit.
Overall very bloody days and I will take this as an allied victory.

Aztez , nice going, looks you smashed KB for only the hornet. Definite bargain imo.
I've learnt under most mods (nik mod based) never to operate CV's out of range of LBA unless its absolutely necessary. Or its
1944 and your playing allies [;)] . Not having tulagi to retreat to with damaged ships probably cost poor FDR the CV's. few
AR's and a lvl 5 port might well have saved them.
Good battle guys.

Hi Rob! Nice to see you around.
Yeah, Japanese carriers are definately hurt. I know he has Akagi, Kaga and Zuikaku still in action. I wonder whether Zuikaku at least was severely hit... and yes only CV Hornet was sunk.
I think that was definately huge victory though.
Both sides are exhausted from the Battle of Java and Solomons. Heavy surface, carrier and LBA action has taken its toll.
Currently we have reached end of June 1942. Nothing major has happened. Enemy has bombed Mandalay heavily and I have contested these raids with RAF. The end result has been maybe 200-300 aircraft lost for both sides.
At the moment I'am securing my perimeter and the plans are going as well as planned.
