Great pics, but the Wirraway isn't WitP correct. It should be shown flying in a nose down position w/ flames streaming from its tail.

It scored more victories than the Boomerang or P-39 in RAAF service!![8D]

Interesting, you see people like me dont know that, or frankly see comments like that as benign. Perhaps you should PM in the future to avoid this sort of situation. You see viewed from my perspective it appeared you "felt" someone whom wished to contribute to the discussion had more important things to do instead of participating in the discussion. Which of couse I found offensive, thus my comment.

It may be notworthy to some of you that there are people whom come to the forum that have not been here discussing the game for the past few years as some of you "lifers" have. And thus, dont understand these "private" jokes, or comments.

That said, farewell fellow gamer.

That would appear to be a tankette not a tank. The Japanese had several tanks and several Tankettes. The Tankettes as I recall all were armed with machine Guns. By WW2 the tanks proper were armed with small cannon, cant remember off hand if 37mm or 45/47 mm, I think towards the end they had 57 mm guns as well.

Hmmm, by that definition PzKpfw I was a "tankette".... i've never seen it described that way, though... usually described as a light tank armed with two 7.92 mm MGs... actually composed a large part of Germany's tanks until 1941.

I think[8D], that a tankette didnt have a turret, therefore a German Pzkw I is a light tank and an Italian CV-33 is a tankette.

I never said tanks were not just armed with machine guns, I was describing how in the context of the war in the pacific that by the time the US was involved the Japanese had NO tanks proper that were so small nor just armed with machine guns.

Twist it anyway you want, the picture provided was not a tank. Unless your definition of a tank is any armored vehicle. Who knew all our half tracks were really tanks?
Favoritism is alive and well here.

No, tankettes could have turrets - examples of tankettes include:

French: AMR 33 (with rotating turret)
Japanese: Type 94 Te Ke (with rotating turret)

The problem is (i think): there isn't a great definition for tankettes. One defintion is: "A tankette is a type of lightly armed and armored tracked combat vehicle resembling a small tank roughly the size of a car, mainly intended for light infantry support or reconnaissance. Colloquially it may also simply mean a "small tank"."

wikipedia has the AMR33 as an Automitrailleuse, which the French used to describe their light AFV's and calls it a Light Tank but has the Type 94 te ke as a tankette.

Their picture isnt very clear as it has the Type 94 tied up on the engine covers of an M4!!

I think you're right, maybe tankettes could be made without spending the tank budget.

ultimately depends on how the specific nation in question classifies it's AFV's but as others mentioned, in 'general' a "Tankette" is a very small AFV. They were popular between the wars but died out due to survivability issues though in the case of the Japanese, they remained useful for ops in China.

Great set of pics! thx for posting em.
