RE: Harpoon 3 [ANW] scenarios for the PlayersDB

KCB,

I would expect the release version of 3.10 to be put out before the end of the year. That's a pretty rough estimate.

Like Herman says, check it out for yourself. I would suggest setting up a separate installation. Also know that scenarios and databases developed are not backwards compatible.

Thanks,
Russell

I do not believe that was ever posted by me within this thread. I think that it was more along the lines of,

"Avoid the toxic Beta/experimental releases if you value your life and sanity. [:)]"

[blockquote]ORIGINAL: hermanhum

A great many new bugs come with any new patch release. If you are going to build your scen, I suggest that you use the 3.9.4 version that has been publicly released. At least most of the problems with that version are known. Use of the Beta 3.10 is like playing Russian roulette. If 3.10 releases with a catastrophic bug (as every patch has), then there may be no way to recover your work from it. However, if you write it with 3.9.4, it may be possible to salvage your work if 3.10 turns out to be a crash-infested mess.

The most stable is H2 or H3.6.3.
The next most stable is ANW 3.9.4
The least stable is the Beta/experimental 3.10

Such Impudence!

Just you wait until you see all your new weapons additions. Don't be surprised if they turn around and sink your own ships.

Oh, wait. They already do that in ANW. Never mind. [:)]

For some reason I can no longer open 3.10.29 0r 3.10.31. looks like I am going to have to reinstall. Where are the saved files that I have been using in the scenario editor 3.10 thus far, so I don’t lose that work?

The beta builds have a time out in them. November 1st was the timeout date for those betas. I'll put up a new build for you shortly.

Thanks,

The saved files would be in something like

C:\Matrix Games\Harpoon 3 ANW\Databases\<Your DB>\Scenarios\

Now, do you believe that AGSI's beta process is a farce? [;)]

Creating strike missions, but I notices in 3.10.31 and now 3.10.33 there are no aircraft available from the airbases when building missions. In 3.10.29, Aircraft are available. Bit of a show stopper at this point.

Try hitting the 'Re-build All Units' command under the Edit menu before you try that. No guarantee, but it may help.

that seemed to do the trick and then the game CTD. thus far i have not been able to get a simple text scenario up and running, but there again i dont really know the game. this learning process feels very much like stumbling and falling backward repeatedly. thank god for forums.

More correctly, "Thank God you didn't get a fanboi responding to you." [:D]

Do you mind zipping up and sending me that text scenario of yours? I'd be interested in a look at what caused your CTD. It might be something very simple. For example, there were situations in older H2/H3 scenarios that would CTD if:
[ol][*]One of your sides didn't have units[*]Your map didn't have any land in it[*]Etc, etc.[/ol]Please check your PMs for my e-mail address.

Hey KCB,

I would also like that scenario so I can fix the CTD.

Thanks,

This particular sub-forum does not allow for file attachments such as *.zip files. You can post your *.zip file to the support sub-forum. Just post a message to this thread:

tm.asp?m=1904270

I set it up specifically to ease transfer of files. Just put it in a zip file before attaching it to your message. It should be fine so long as your zip file is smaller than 500kB.
