It IS for fast transport TF use. We have formulas for what can be stored in troop space, and that's not just men. You'll notice there are spaces for bulk and liquid cargo as well.

So the troop capacity is just for Fast TF's? note that i said "other ships" not only Asashio. I would say that could be good also to determine the troop transport of a passenger ship or a mixed cargo ship in non-fast transport TF.

"Cargo weight for a ship is in metric tons. There is a conversion table, in the code, that relates tons to various load costs, for various device types."

Okay. Then Asashio 200 in Troop field is 200t of Troops(seems too much value in that case)?
I think he means that a cubic meter of concrete and a cubic meter of feathers don't weigh the same thing.

That is it.

No, troop capacity is also for actual troopships, but when assigned to ships eligible for a Fast Transport TF, then those rules apply. That was my meaning.

I'm not going to present the whole formula for this, but the idea is that we have some devices that can fit in troop spaces other than squads (light mortars, for example) and others that can't, meaning that you could move some IJN infantry with light support weapons on an FT TF, but they couldn't bring their heavy artillery and trucks.

So what is the difference between YP and HDML? Its a chrome? I could change in editor from one to another to standarize it, a it wont change anything in respect of behavior and possile missions?
Hello Monter,

Not quite chrome. HDML is like a slow PT, but with guns; good for harbor defense (think that’s why they call it a Harbor Defense Motor Launch??).

YPs (but not HDMLs) can “convert” to minefield tenders (and thus keep minefields from decaying) or general tenders (AGs) that can rearm “small” vessels, or coastal (harbor) minesweepers.

Welcome to the wonderful world of AE. There's more - way, way, way, more.

Ciao. John

I've been away for awhile with internet problems... Tell me more. Way, way, way more. (Please)

On that CVB ...

You show 9 5" guns/1 turret ...

A bit below you show 8 40mm Bofors guns/4 turrets.

I thought the 1st number would be # of barrels of that type / number of turrets and some thought you'd get 2 or 3 guns/turret. But this I can't work out. 9x5" guns in 1 turret? 8x40mm guns/4 turrets? I just don't get it?

First number is total number of barrels, second is how they are grouped.

So here its 9 single barrels.

Compared to Gearing DDR which has 4 barrels in twins fore (2 turrets), and 2 barrels in twins aft (1 turret).

So the 4 in the bofors means they are quad mounts.

Oh, I don't know. I'd really like to see a nine barrel 5"54 mount. It's probably look like an old Warner Brothers cartoon and make gunners mates sweat cosmoline.

Just for another thought, but entirely too complex for any game I can think of on this scale, the ancient (by today's standard) 5"54 we had on my old tin can gave gunners enough heebie jeebies keeping the thing working. Which leads me to the thought that perhaps there should be a breakdown factor for some of these new thingies - like brand new gun mounts - that breakdown factor is why we called Mount 52 "Wonder mount." We wondered if it would shoot or not.

And let's not forget green crews, even greener officers in some cases. After every overhaul, yard period, and most refits, the crew would be significantly changed by the invading 'friendly' raiders at repple depple. This I conjured up watching a bunch of new tin cans sitting in Pearl waiting for some major fleet units to finish upgrading. They were sitting there doing nothing, no crew experience change whatsoever outside of just running around in circles. Maybe there should be another mission for ships in task force - training, working up, reftra - or something in which experience level changed faster than just normal cruising.

I know, I know. The game is just about (fingers crossed) ready, and this would be another "what is somebody going to come up with next" routine, but I'd rather give up a couple of points of sys damage to gain added crew experience instead of seeing a bunch of ships sitting on a shelf doing nothing for several weeks at a time.

Now, I will retire to my pipe.
