Success in the Pacific. Today we recieved words that we have scored some minor victories. Hopefully this is the change of the pace in the Pacific. Off Kona, our brave PT boys once more made contact with the enemy, and although vastly outnumbered sank two enemy minesweepers and damaged two transports (for the interested, the types were AP and AK), with the loss of only one PT boat. The crew of the PT boat reportedly swam back to Pearl Harbour after the attack. Way to go lads!
As expected the Japanese launched yet another attack on Pearl Harbour, but no ships were in port, and our fighters shot down 5 enemy bombers to the loss of two of our fighters. If we can keep this score ratio up, we will win for sure. Way to go lads!
Close to Russell Island a surface fleet consisting of the heavy cruiser Canberra and the light cruiser Perth, accompanied by two destroyers engaged and attacked an enemy invasion fleet, and sank one transport and heavily damaged another (for those of peculiar interest, both ships were of the type AP. Not that anyone here in the paper knows what that means..)

Just to keep us on our toes, CiCPac HQ also informed us that Russell Island an Changsha were captured by the evil Japanese empire and that Tulagi has been invaded and is expected to fall tomorrow.
An enemy carrier was detected off Pago-Pago, as a small transport fleet, scheduled to bring the garrison at the island to Noumea, was attacked by dive bombers. Both transports were hit and sunk. (again for those of interest, types were AP and AK).

And finally a mystic message that we here in the paper did not understand;
Mini-KB at Tarakan, convoy from Manilla attacked, TK, AVD, AK, DD lost.
The last parts of the sentence is clear, but what a mini-KB is, is not clear to anyone here in the paper. If you do know, please call 258-35377 and inform us!

Greetings,

An inventory of remaining Allied Fleet Assets would be most useful --> how many CVs and Battleships are in fighting condition,
as well as possibly an inventory of LBA availability.

Despite the circumstances, plans could certainly be made for an interdiction of enemy forces that have become over-extended.

If possible, the British fleet could be sent across the pacific for combined operations with the USN CVs, otherwise the USN CVs could be dispatched for combined operations in the Australia/South Pacific Region.

If the 3 remaining USN CVS can be combined with the British Fleet, and a battle can be fought under friendly LBA co-ordination, then damage to the enemy force can certainly be inflicted.

Also use of the British / Dutch torpedo planes in the DEI can be quite devastating on convoys that are unprotected by LBA air cover (and even so, a large escort of Buffalos / Etc can be sufficient for an adequate penetration by Swordfish planes.

Ok, I'll post an update in the following post, to let anyone following this mess get a complete update [:D]

Narrator: It now seems the Japanese have expanded all their force, today was a day were not much happened in the Pacific. One of our destroyers leaving Pearl Harbour was hit by a torpedo launched by a Japanese submarine, a tanker and a bulk freighter sailing from Manilla towards Soerebaja was hit by vicious airborne attacks and sunk. Off course they have managed to send a few troops to undefended bases and hence captured Tulagi and Rabaul, but to capture Wuchow and Samarinda they had toput up a fight. The loss of Samarinda however means that all of Borneo is now in Japanese hands. Japanese troops have also been spotted at Hilo. But that was all they managed to acomplish today, a sure sign that their offensive powers have been used up. At other spots they suffered failures. An airborne attack on Pearl Harbour today saw 5 Japanese planes be shot down to a total of 7 of our planes lost. Of our planes 3 were on the ground when they were destroyed.
One of our B17s based at Port Moresby reports to have scored a bomb hit on an enemy transport at Rabaul, and our spies at Kona informs us that a transport there hit one of our recently placed mines.
Narrator: And this is just in, a deliberate Japanese attack on Manilla was repulsed, our losses were 430 men, but the Japanese lost a staggering 6600 men. That should teach them a lesson about how it is to fight a prepared enemy!
Finally we want to remind our listeners that the war costs money, so BUY WARBONDS!

December 31st 1941

Front page in newspapers
As the year draws to an end, so it seems is the state of the might of Japan. Today was a day which CiCPac Terje439 reported as "Won". He pointed out that we inflicted a few losses for the enemy and only lost minor forces as well as bases that was (and we quote) "doomed from the start of this war anyway".
For those of you kids that keeps a map and draw dots and lines on them, Gorgetown, Salamaua and Hilo fell to the Japanese today, while the Japanese attack on Manilla failed. Some 4100 Japanese soldiers are reported dead as opposed to our 600.
CiCPac Terje439 claims he was most delighted by our naval forces today.
At Banjarmasin an allied fleet consisting of 4 light cruisers and 12 destroyers engaged an enemy fleet of 7 transports (of the type AP for those with a peculiar interest) and one minesweeper. Our superior forces sank the minesweeper and two transports without any losses. Our surface fleet operating out of Dutch Harbour did a bombardment of Kiska and reported to destroy one Mavis and taking out a few hundred Japanese troops as well as damaging the local airfield and port.
But also our boys in their flying fortresses had some success today as they flew off from Port Moresby and attacked the port at Rabaul. Two enemy transports were hit by one bomb each, and at the same time they reported that the repeated attacks on the port have pulled in enemy fighters to cover the port, fighters that cannot be used elsewere. Way to go boys!

The only action today that was a total disaster was our brave PT boys operating out of Pearl Harbour. Engaging what they thought were a transport convoy in darkness, they soon realised their mistake when 2 enemy battleships, 2 light cruisers and 4 destroyers opened fire on them and sank all three PT boats before they even managed to launch their torpedoes.

But as the might of Japan seems to have reached is breaking point, our strength continues to grow, so keep the spirits up!
A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Radio message in the entire USA
Yesterday it was claimed that the Japanese threat is diminishing, and today that report has been strengthened even further. Although the Japanese launcehed a few invasions on a few atolls across the Pacific, no major effort was even attempted by the Japanese. Things have become so dull that CiCPac reports that they fear the Japanese might be up to something nasty somewere.
The Dutch navy reports that they are contemplating going on an offence, but are weary about the enemy surface fleet South East of Soerebaja. That fleet is reported to contain several battleships and heavy cruisers. To counter this threat the Dutch can muster a surface fleet of one damaged heavy cruiser, 5 light cruiser and 12 destroyers. CiCPac reporteadly responded that the Dutch surface fleet is too valuable to just throw away and that they would prefer the Dutch to instead attack enemy transports.

But all in all the first day of the new year brought some pleasant news from the airforce's research department. They have found one of the keys to why the Zero-fighter are better than our planes, and this knowledge will be put to best use in finding better ways to engage the deadly Zero-fighter.

Small notice in the newspapers
Japan halted in Manilla once more! Another Japanese attack on Manilla was repulsed by our brave soldiers. After the fighting had ceased, some 6000 Japanese troops lay dead as opposed to some 900 American and Philliphino troops.

Telegram sent from CiCPac HQ to Washington DC and London.

To: President of the United States, Prime Minister of England.
Subject: Japanese onslought
From: CiCPac Terje439

Sir, it now seems that the Japanese plans to conquer islands of Hawaii, and then halt there. It seems aperant that they are focusing their forces elsewere, and as of now it seems their next target is Java. Several battleships and cruisers are spotted of Soerebaja and they are landing more and more troops on the island. As of today we will not be able to hold the island against a deliberate attack, and it is very unlikely that we will have enough forces available to reinforce the base at Soerebaja. I am therefor contemplating the withdrawal from Java to rescue planes, personell and ships from destruction. This can not be done however without losses. I fear that our surface ships would be blown out of the sea by much heavier Japanese ships, as well as by the increasing numbers of Japanese aircrafts all around the island.
Another cause of grief is the fact that we have lost contact with the enemy carrier fleet, the so called Kido Butai. Worst case scenario is that it is heading for the west coast to cut of the ships fleing from PH, if that is the case we will have to expect heavy losses.
I once more point out that we are in dire need of long range fighters capable of fighting the Japanese Zero, long range heavy bombers, ground units, engineers, and more ships, notably carriers.
Without these reinforcements, there is really nothing much we can do to stop the Japanese assault.

Talk between two middle aged women living in San Fransisco
Woman 1: The nerve of the Japanese! My son works at CiCPac HQ, and he informs me that the Japanese sailed battleships and cruisers right into the harbour at Soerebaja. They did not care if the harbour was mined, nor the fact that we have lots of aircrafts there, nor that the port holds several capitol warships! The nerve!
Woman 2: My daughter is helping the war effort she claims. I do not like it. Women working as welders! What will be next, female baseball players? But what happened at Soerebaja, did we sink alot of enemy ships?
Woman 1: Not one! All the planes dropped heaps of bombs, only one small one hit anything, but no real damage! And I agree with you, just the other day I noticed two women sitting at a bar drinking BEER! What is the world coming to?
Woman 2: All we can do is keep the faith and pray the war will be a short one.
Woman 1: Amen!

Greetings,

In general, a giant combined mass of Dutch / RAF land based aircraft can be effective against enemy surface units.

From a recent PBEM match --> A single day of torpedo strikes
It is generally a matter of force concentration against a few well selected targets.

The main defficiencies of the allied land based assets are the lack of range, numbers, and combat experience.
These can certainly be compensated for with appropriate strategic deployments (suggest stripping hermes of Swordfish Squadron).

Atm I am contemplating sending out the allied surface fleet at Soerebaja. If it stays in port it will eventually be scuttled as Japan takes the city, but I guess 1CA+5Cl+10 or so DDs will do close to nothing against 3BB+3CA++ [:@]

Radio broadcast
Rangoon falls! The British reports that all communications with the city of Rangoon have seized. The last report recieved reported ships sighted off the coast. We can only conclude that Japan has grown long fingers, and are now even able to threathen the Indian Ocean. Britain reports that a task force has been assembled around the light aircraft carrier Hermes. According to plan the task force will head within striking distance for the Swordfish torpedo bombers aboard the Hermes.

The US airforce was forbidden to fly any more missions against Rabaul today as the enemy has flown in too many Zeros for even our Flying Fortresses to handle. From now on they are restricted into bombing the enemy positions at Gili-Gili instead.

From Soerebaja we have recieved words that a few transports and auxillerary ships are attempting to make a break for Australia as the Japanese are reported to push closer and closer to Soerebaja. The Dutch surface fleet as well as the USN heavy cruiser Houston will remain in port and be prepared to try to fend of any enemy invasion if an invasion fleet is spotted.

Thanks to overwhelming feedback from the public, our industrial might is beginning to show, and CiCPac Terje439 has been promised reinforcements that will arrive in a steady flow a few days from now and untill Japan sureenders. Thank you to all that has contributed, be that with pots and pans, buying warbonds or shipping off your sons!

outch, that hurts. very impressive strike power even in this early stage of the war, wolf.

one should never underrate the dutch and british bombers (espacialy the torpedo bombers). they may be outclassed, but when attacking in such a mass, even they can hit something.

shredded by this......
