RE: Singapore falls 1/25/42

Post by RUPD3658 »

Most of the fighters (P-40B and Buffalos) and the B-25s can make it to Derby in one jump. The P-40Es and Beauforts will have to go through Timor. The Dutch planes I really don't care about.

The mini KB showed up off of Wake and nailed 4 of my DMs after they laid mines there. Shame on me for continuing the mission after they were attacked by Nells last turn and the suprize lost. They laid their mines so I hope the mini KB stops at Wake for gas.

My carriers are escorting the first invasion fleet of the war. Destination is still classified. Stay tuned......

You should care about your Dutch planes.  The bombers can convert to B-25s after July.  The Dutch recon planes are very short legged (and really can only be withdrawn by ship) but constitute almost the entire Allied recon capacity throughout 1942, and again can be converted into  useful planes after July.  The Brewster fighters (and to a lesser degree the Demon fighters), with their long legs, will make useful barge busters operating out of either Darwin or Port Moresby/Lugan - used in that capacity you don't even have to worry about converting them to other types.

The bi-plane recons have been withdrawn by ship already, not so much because I want them but more so that they didn't suck up AV support. The Martin 139s should be able to fly to OZ on their own as should the long ranged Brewsters. The Hawks and Demons are a lower priority and will have to go through Timor.

PPs are currently being used to bring Canadian AC (converted to Wellingtons) from the West coast.

Not much today. Since I know that the KB is in the DEI I have sent my 4 carriers to escort and invasion of Baker Is. The landing should be next turn. Hopefully they can fend off the Betties from Kwaj.

2 counter attacks have been ordered on advanced Jap units in China. Hopefully they will succeed. Hurricanes have also been sent to Manadaly to attempt an ambush.

RE: Singapore falls 1/25/42

Post by RUPD3658 »

Baker Island invasion force pulls up 1 hex short. [:@] The suprize is lost since the Tf and the Cvs have been spotted. Large numbers of planes (presumably Betty/Nells) have moved to Kwaj. I am hoping the extreme range and lack of escorts will keep them from flying. I am not sure where the entire KB is so this scares me also. Some of it is in the DEI but I am not sure if this is all of it.

Ambush at Mandalay worked as did the counter attacks in China. Not a bad day for the Allies overall.

Allies recapture Baker Island

Post by RUPD3658 »

The invasion force finally arrived and took Baker, destroying a Mavis sqaudron in the process. This was the goal of the raid. Gordon's subs were doing well enough without being assisted by search planes. Now his search perimiter has been pushed back about 15 hexes. Once the last troops are mopped up I will be leaving a small garrison and leaving. I would like to do the same at Tarawa before it becomes a level 4 base. I will need to know for sure where the KB is before trying this

I am guessing the standard seaborne invasion of India or Oz. I am making plans for both.

Hopefully I can tie him up in the DEI and Manilla long enough to prepare a defense for both. He should be too weak to try an invasion with just to troops that took Singapore.

The Battle of Batavia

Post by RUPD3658 »

Air units harass the batavia landings but don't do too much to it. More bombers are on the way.

In China, counter attacks have pushed stray Jap units back across the river next to Changsha. I would love to push further but my troops are exhuasted amd once Wuchow falls it will be back the the defensive for everyone.
