Dec 10: Another busy days for the good guys [:)]
2 Jap DDs caught 2 xAKL TFs about 200 miles SW of Hong Kong and sank all 7 ships for no damage.
CL Nagra in company with 7 DDs did a drive by on Sorong and caught an AVP and an xAK and dispatched them.
1nd and 2nd bn of the 66th naval guard landed on Kavieng. A couple of Hudson bombers from Rabul attacked and hit 1 ship for moderate damage.
53rd naval guard and an airfield co landed on and secured Ocean Is (between Tarawa and Nauru) capturing the garrison.
CA Chokai and a DD caught the minelayer Kung Wo off Miri and sank her. It is unclear at this time if she got her mines off.
ASW forces attacked and damaged a Dutch sub at Singora.
Sallys attacked ground troops in a thunderstorm at Taipang damaging a vehicle.
3 Vildebeest with 1 Buff escort met 17 Zeros and 11 Nates over Singora. 2 Vildebeest were shot down and the Buff damaged for no damage.
3 Vildebeest and 2 Walrus' raided Shanghai. 14 Nates intercepted and shot down 2 Vildebeest and damaged 2 Walrus for no damage.
3 B-17s returned to Babeldaob met by 4 Jakes and 3 Petes on CAP. No damage to Japanese forces on the ground or in the air. 2 attackers reported damaged.
3 Bettys with Zero escort from Formosa found a large xAK loading in Hong Kong harbor under clear skies and all 3 hit and sank her.
Lilys raided Kuantan losing 1 to intercepting Buffs but destroying a Hudson on the ground. A Japanese shock attack later in the day only achieved 1:3 odds. 2 Brit CLs still patrolling off the coast.
More harrassment raids on the ground troops attempting to withdraw from Alor Star.
1st bn 81st naval guard, the 6th tank reg, and an airbase co landed on Kuching. The landing force was attacked by 5 Dutch 139WH-3s and scored no hits.
19 Bettys with Zero escort raided the port facilities at Hong Kong destroying guns and disrupting troops. The 66th inf reg of the 51st div moved into Hong Kong yesterday with 7 artillery batteries and their bombardment caused over 250 casualties and destroyed some guns. The 38th and 2 combat engineer regs moved in this turn. 1st inf group, 20th NGC div (our Chinese allies), and 23rd army HQ will be in Hong Kong in the morning, so we will wait on the assault. 1 more day of prep-bombardment.
16 Nells and 18 Bettys escorted by 11 Zeros raided the port and airfield at Manila. They were intercepted by 18 P-40Es. 7 bombers lost for 1 P-40 and 11 damaged. Hits were reported on 3 DDs in the port heavily damaging 2 of them with heavy fires on one.
Ships on fire cant use port repair facilities until the fire is out.
Harassment raids against the airfields at Wenchow, Lingayan, and Tavoy were flown with nothing of note reported.
The 6th and 40th inf divisions attacked a Chinese corps between Wuchang and Changsha. The 3rd inf div and 9th tank co were put in reserve with orders to pursuit (I did this just to see how it worked). The 2 attacking divisions achieved 59:1 odds driving the Chinese force back towards Changsha. The 9th tank co followed them into the adjacent hex. The 3rd inf div is about half way along in its move into that hex. If he takes time to counter-attack the tanks, the infantry will be on him before he has a chance to withdraw into the city and maybe there before he can even attack.
Laoag, Aparri, and Kwangchowan all fell with no defenders.
Chinese units have moved into Singyang. I have 2 Chinese divs there and the 1st bde.
