this blenheims are "not the best weapon to bring fear into enemies of her majesty" like a RAF pilot said about the wellington. although the HE-100 fighters have only a gun value of 8, they managed to shoot down more then a dozen of the obsolate british bombers out of the 70 bombers strong strike force.

the US B-17 in N australia on the other hand, are doing a far better job penetrating the japanese CAP (mostly zeros) and supressing japanese AF around timor.

this japs fighter pilot downed 6 B-17 with his unarmed zero? respect. it seems that the gunners of the flying fortress have to take specal care of this one.[:D]

downing 6 B-17 is a impressive performance when we see that even german pilots with their much better armed and gunned FW-190 had huge problems with the B-17 in the end of 1942 and spring of 1943...until the MK-108 30mm was available.

the air war finaly beginns to bring some good news for the allied.

massive allied air strikes from N india (127 martin and blenheims) and N australia (71 B-17 and B-24) managed to destroy nearly 30 jaüpanese AC on ground where they are cheaper to destroy then in the air. also, 44 chinese B-25 attacked a japanese foreward AF and caused little damage. this chinese pilots need more milk runs like that to get better results.

over midway, a one sided air battle was fought in which our wildcat CAP suffered heavy loses (15 of the 24 planes) while destroying only 2 KB zeros. the japanese carriers are in a position NE of midway and because i saw them coming this time, their only succes so far was sinking few unimportant ships (MSW, PC).

Operation HAMMER BLOW:
Several days after our carriers had left Fiji, another CL sunk adding the total number of sunken ships in Operation HAMMER BLOW to 8CA, 7CL 12DD, 1DMS plus several aux ships and MSW.

Operation BLUE:
The enemy sent his carriers to midway where he spotted our carriers. They nearly clashed but despite both sides spotting each other, the distances were to large for strikes. The next day, his carriers headed home to pearl with flank speed.

The B-17 is really superior in this mod! The A6M2 seems to be mostly worthless and my A9M1 production wasn't forced enough. This shall change in future and I hope my A9M1 will do better against the B-17.
At least: Just 11-12 month ahead, I'll hasve the A9M2 Me-109K-4 with 1x30mm, 2x20mm and 2x13mm and a gun value of 19. This combined with good max-alt, speed and climb rate shall show your bombers who's the boss!

Operation BLUE:
A fighter sweep over Wake succeeded in shooting down all 10 enemy Wildcats without a single loss. CPO J. Ikeda of the AI-1 Datai bake ace in a day by shooting down 5 enemy planes. He didn't shoot down unarmoued bombers in tight formations, no, he killed 5 fighters!


PFC Miller is in his foxhole near the shoreline of Midway. He unit, the 16th RCT was just sent to Midway a few days before to bolster the defences. The day after his unit arrived, enemy carriers showed up bombing the ships ashore but with little effect. As most of the troop transports were already gone, only two tiny ships sank in the lagoon.
This didn't sink his morale as well as the shot down planes didn't. They were only those navy guys but hey, he's from the army! Why in the hell should an army soldier fear this bamboo-bender?
In fact, the Japs were too afraid to attack Manila. His Captain told them, the Japs were just besieging the City using their artillery. They oviously fear entering the city. The same north on Luzon. Clark FIeld has repelled a Dozend of enemy attacks and the Newsreel has showed the vast losses of men and material the Japs suffered. Ok, Wake may have been fallen, but that were only marines. Singapore and Hong Kong - but what do you expect from the brits? Arent't the a part of France? Well, he doesn't know but they are shurely somewhere there and this means the same, no?
Instead, whereever the US Army stands, no Jap has succeeded! Moreover, what should the Japs want on Midway? It's sooo far away from Japan! He remembered how seasick he got sailing from Pearl to Midway in the rough sea. A Jap soldier being shiped from Nippon to Midway must already have died from seasickness!
"Miller! Hold your helmet in front of your cigarett! Do you want whole Japan to know where we are?"
"But.. ah, yes Sir!"
What doesn this dummed Lieutenant want? No Japs all around and he has to take care of his little cigarette in the darkness of the pacific. "What does this Lieutenant want anyway, why am I here? I should be with Mary, the mayars daugther... Oh Mary..."
Then suddenly a sound. Still very quite, but it's there and it's getting closer.
"Sir, Lieztenant, Sir! What's that noise?"
"I don't hear a thing. Stop annoying me, Private or I have found my volunteer to empty the shit-bucket tomorrow!"
"Yes Sir..."
But the sound IS there - and it's getting closer!
"Sir?"
"Quiet, now I hear it, too... Hmm, that's obvious an engine. A PT boat is comeing in or maybe a single plane."
"But that doesn't sound like an american engine, Sir!"
"So you're an expert on american aviation and ship engines, now? Maybe I should let you empty the bucket now?"
The engines sound gets closer and closer. It was still sounding strange and uncommon, but why should he tell Lieutenant Watson that he used to live close to the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizon? But maybe the Lieutenant was right. The USAAF boys were getting lots of fency stuff in the last month, he really can't identify any engine sound, can he?
When the engine sound grew and grew, suddenly a shadow was visible. A tiny little plane that came in some thousand feets above them. Then, all of a sudden, the plane drops flares.
"What's that now?"
"Maybe he wants to illuminate the airfield to be able to land in the darkness, Sir?"

Then, all of a sudden, there was a light at the horizon. Not a single cigarette, it rather looked as if the crew on the ship that must be out there has all strained coordinated at their cigarettes. Then more and more "cigarette lights" were visible. PFC Miller stood unbelievable at the edge of his foxhole. What was going on there? Suddenly, something grabbed his feet and pulled them away. Miller fell to the ground like a piece of wood while his feet were pulled into the foxhole by Lt. Watson.
"What's..?" he wanted to ask as suddenly explosions were all around and the earth began to shake like in a heavy earthquake.
The Japanese fleet has begun to pound Midway mericless with several battleships.
Operation BLUE has begun.

Operation GOLDEN TRIANGLE:
Heavy air fighting over Burma. 75 enemy fighters were shot down with neglible own losses. The He-100D proves once more to be an air superiority fighter.

aye, bloody day over mandalay. 2 massive japanese fighter sweeps (more then 100 zero and He-100)  clashed with over 120 allied fighters (hurricans, AVG and some buffalos). at the end, the japanese got a 2.5:1 killrate in the air and some OP loses.

the bad thing is that the AVG is reduced to 1/3 of its regular strength and needs some R&R and maybe improved fighter planes in india. the He-100 bloded the nose of the AVG badly.

the good thing is, that the hurricans did a good job and for a wonder, only 3! hurricane pilots were lost and most of the pilots got a good XP-boost (2 sqn. are at 61 XP now). also, the fight was over our territory, so we can expect at least 30 dead japanese expert pilots.

RAF aviation units in mandalay after the last air battle. they have alot of work ahead.

again, the hurricane units lost very few pilots. the hurricane has 30 durability and 1 armor point in this MOD and maybe that makes the difference between lost pilot or a pilot, who can make it out to fight another day.
