I'm having the same problem as hweston. I also will lowe all the graphic settings and see if it helps.

OK. I turned everything down to the minimum and it's seems to work now. I'll creep the sliders up until it quits working, so I'll know what the maximum is that I can have them set.

Glad to hear that worked for now. Please post any additional info you find in adjusting your settings. Bob is trying to figure this one out. If anyone is unable to run the game with the graphic sliders set to the minimum, please let us know.

Well, if I move the left slider one notch up, the problem returns. I haven't tried the others.

I'm having the exact same problem, with the game going haywire once I get to the 3D battle mode, and like Masterdave, I've got an NVIDIA GeForce 260 GTX graphics card. I'm just reinstalling the game and once done will try it again with graphics settings turned right down.

Hope we get a fix soon - this guy on YouTube looks to have a similar problem, except he has the flickering before he even gets to the 3D battle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8iLEvTu27c

But he reckons that might be his fraps software, so maybe it's a different problem.

Great, now it just crashes on startup, even after I reinstalled it.

Maffbowers,

What kind of error message are you getting, if any? Did you allow all the required components to install with the game? Seems like you've hit a different issue here. Could you post a DxDiag for us?

Hello Erik

I was getting one of those "Send an Error Message Report to Microsoft" messages, but I couldn't copy the data out of it onto Notepad. I restarted the PC and the game's not crashing on startup now - I also lowered all graphics settings to minimum and the 3D battles seem to be working as well, although I'm only ten minutes into a game.

I think that the crash on game load was caused by me force-quitting the game when I originally ran into the 3D battle problem - must have upset something. A reboot cured it (although a reinstall didn't).

For future reference, how do I get hold of a DxDiag file to send you, if I run into more problems? (It's not something I've ever done before.)

Ok, great to hear that it's working. For how to get DxDiag files, we've posted instructions in this forum in a pinned thread.

Hi guys,

Ok, we have something for you to try if you are willing to help us get this fixed. This is turning out to be a very tough one to track down and fix on our own, so we're hoping to gather some more info by using this debug executable. If you are having these issues, please download the attached zip file. Backup your normal game executable and unzip this one in its place.

Then play the game with the default settings and see if you can duplicate the crash/freeze issue by starting a battle and quitting once the issue happens. With any luck, this debug exe will generate an "errors.txt" file in your save game folder. Grab that file and either post it here or e-mail it to me at erikr@matrixgames.com.

Regards,

Have any of you had a chance to try this yet? We would love to get some reports with errors.txt files regarding these issues.

This is just causing an error message with me, though the original .exe file opens the game fine. The error message is a "Armada 2526 has encountered and error and needs to shut down" one.

AppName: armada2526.exe AppVer: 1.0.1.0 AppStamp:4b14fda1
ModName: kernel32.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781 ModStamp:49c4f482
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00012afb

If I can get this .exe working I'll happily try to get the error file for you.

Yeah. My game is also "freezing" on battle openings if the graphic settings are set above the minimum. My computer is: Intel core 2 duo 2.93 GHz, 4 GB memory, NVidea GeForce 9400 GT 1GB.

The first error of this I found is on the tutorial first battle as my Corvettes and Arks enter the system with Klurgu. The battle opens to star field(not the planet) and the screen won't scroll(no ships visible). The battle will proceed but it is not visible because the ships are at planet which is not on screen. I can pause or resume it. I can end battle and proceed with game. Sometimes the game will freeze after the errored combat.

This can all be worked around by restarting the saved game with graphics set at low. I tried mid range settings also but the same error happens.

I will try the debug as explained by Erik and post another time if I get the degug list.
Wish list:population centers beyond planetary(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Culture):Ships,Ring Orbitals,Sphere Orbitals,Ringworlds,Sphereworlds;ability to create & destroy planets,population centers,stars;AI competently using all advances & features.

The debug exe crashes on startup on my laptop (Win7 32big, Nvidia Quadro, 4 GB RAM). The laptop runs the game pretty good, except for the battles problem.

Hi, I tried using the debug file and recreated the error, but no errors.txt to be seen in the game folders or the save game folder.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster. The timer never counts down in my case; I just freeze and have to reboot. I'll try the debug executable.

I am having the same issue. I have an nVidia 9500GT. When I bought the game I had an older ATI X1600 in the computer and the game worked fine. Now, I get the same thing, the combat screen comes up and I see the panel to the right and my wallpaper behind it - no planet or ships.

I running Windows 7 64 bit with the latest nVidia drivers. I am trying it again here with lower graphic settings to see what goes.

[EDIT] I turned down the shadows to the lowest value and retried the tutorial bit. So far so good, planet was there, combat finished and screens came back like the should.
