Mike Wood or someone else already posted that the planes "sightings" of subs are also attacks. You just don't hear about it unless they hit... no bugs here that I've seen.

I bet once Allied players get deeper into the game, they'll see Jap subs sink a lot more - those massive sinking by escorts and air didn't happen until 1943, BTW...

Hello...

If you see a message that a search plane has spotted a sub, that means it attacked the sub. If you see a message that the sub was hit, the attack was successful.

Also, note that when a sub is hit by a depth charge, the message says it was hit by a shell.
