Pardon the Interuption!

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

He he he ... if you want an answer to your question, then witness that I am in another thread hacking to get some of the full organic OOB which is available in BFTB to be available when I play HTTR and COTA. I wouldn't be doing that if I didn't consider both of those to be a lot of fun and well worth more of my time. And although I have yet to play much BFTB, I've played more HTTR and COTA than most.

Well, I decided to "Back" into this series. Since I'm not familiar with them, I bought HTTR last night. Next I will get COTA and if I progress up the ladder and stay interested I'll pick up BFTB.

From what I've seen of the movies, AAR's, etc it looks like a pretty neat series! I've been gaming for 45 years and I'm sorry that I've missed out on these from the beginning.....

Well, Tony, make sure you check my thread here on getting better OOB support in HTTR. It might come in handy.

I also have a keyboard reference in MS Word for HTTR. It's 2 pages, but if you set your printer on 2 pages/sheet, it will probably still be readable. Send me a PM with an email address if you want it.

Of course, don't forget my Mini-Guide for HTTR and much of the COTA Mini-Guide stuff will probably apply to HTTR as well.

See you in Arnhem! Enjoy!

I've been reading posts and I've downloaded the tutorial and movies, etc. It seems like all you do is give an order to a Headquarters unit and watch the computer play the game! What am I missing? From what I've seen, it doesn't look like much fun.

I was one who once thought the same. It's why though I owned CotA I could never play it. Ditto mainly for HttR.

Still sceptical, I then bought the game, scanned the rules to see what was under the hood and watched the BFtB tutorials - and I haven't been more excited to try something out in PC land for a while.

I once remember that a group of us was discussing the possibility of a war game where you had virtual "grease pencils", with which you could select a corps or division and draw its boundaries and plans of advance on the map (something for the iPad one day maybe?).

BFtB is the closest thing I've seen that comes to that. As the rulebook states - players need to put themselves into the shoes of the overall commander and command 2 levels down (with necessary exceptions as the tactical situation requires). If you can "suspend your disbelief" and roleplay the game in that manner, then this promises to be a gem of a game.

It looks like I am another one!

I was thinking the same way.
I proceeded exactly as Adam Parker.
I can only repeat Adam Parker report word for word!

Learning the basic skills is a lot of work.
But if you want to run, you have to learn to crawl first.
The more and more you will play BftB, even when you crawl, the more fascinating you will discover.

You realize very quickly - it is much more than "fire and forget"! [:-]

Demo is out.  Treale, maybe you can check out what the game is all about for yourself.

As for me, I stopped with HTTR.  I'll check this demo out and see if it will convince me to get back.
It's a nice concept but I didn't find myself playing a lot of HTTR before for some reason.
If this plays similar to HTTR and my potential gaming hours is limited then the price is not worth it.
I have a lot of other games to play anyway...

But I really like the game's concept and the execution.  It has definitely more polish than the games from Shrapnel Games.

I got the Demo and it runs fine on my machine. I also have HTTR and COTA. So far I can't see that much of an improvement over COTA. I'm sure that the Demo doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of the full game. My main concern was answered, it does run on my 6 year old clunker....

There are tons of wargames that let you micromanage units and give direct orders to the hundreds of units on the board,  but only one that does what BFTB does.
Maybe try one of those other games?

Or turn the order delay off and give orders to every unit on your side.

Tony,

I believe the demo is the full game, but with one scenario. (By that I mean, it is not a subset of features. Still unlike some other products, it cannot simply be upgraded by buying a serial number. You will still need to buy and download the full game installer if you so choose.)
