Turn 8
Some nice surprises again, mostly in terms of slow enemy advances. Surely next week will see a crossing of the lower Dnepr and some awkward situations developing around Bryansk and Leningrad.
This weeks APs, boosted by the frontification of Orel MD, get sucked into construction unit building, commander sacking and a few other SU creations and transfers. Some frontline armies I found with no arty at all. Now only Southern Front’s Coastal Army suffers this indignity.
Leningrad
7th Independent Army scurries for the ‘no attack line’.
Zhukov’s 30th Army chalks up a third victory defending the west Krasnogvarddeysk hill. Next door, 29th Army is pushed off the east hill, but 30th Army reoccupies it.
8th Army has been pushed back and battered but maintains a cohesive front. It abandons Tarkovichi, falling back to swamps just to the east. I Galanin relieves P. Sobenniko.
23rd Army moves units to the swamps south and east of Lyuban to slow any flanking effort against Leningrad’s outer defences, from the south. P. Pshennikov hands command to K. Galitsky.
With only 5 HI factories in Leningrad, plus BA10s I can lose, there’s no need to risk unnecessary losses for the city’s defence.
