Post by Curtis Lemay »

Turn 6; 0 Combat Rounds Expended: Here French forces have been positioned to attack the Austrian I Corps and the Prussian II Corps. Meanwhile, the units left behind by the Allies have been RBC’d into a pocket. There are now two pockets left to eliminate. Attacks are set up to do so.

October 17th; Afternoon Turn; Allied Player-Turn:

This shot shows the final results of the French turn in the south. The turn ended a little early. That allowed the Austrians to extract a few nearly-trapped units. But most of their force here can’t even adjust their deployments. Note that the last remnants of the Austrian I Corps were eliminated. Loss totals now are 120,150 Allies (and 531 guns) vs. 31,630 French (and 7 guns).

This shot shows Blucher’s results in the north – seen from the French turn. Some disorder was achieved in the French lines. The new French Corps is arriving just in time. Elsewhere, the attacks on the Leipzig Garrison finally had some success – pushing the French out of one defense location and routing its defenders.

This shot shows the French adjustments in the north. They included a counterattack against the Allied right flank that took several combat phases to complete (not shown) – as shown, the attacks rolled the Allies back a few hexes. Elsewhere, the Leipzig Garrison regained the hex they had lost.

Turn 7; 2 Combat Rounds Expended: The entire Allied position has now been pocketed in pockets large and small. The two flankers of the last phase have been subdivided to complete some of those pockets.

October 17th; Night Turn; Allied Player-Turn:

This shot shows the results of Blucher’s attacks in the north – seen from the French turn. Three combat phases were obtained. The results had some effect. Note that there is no purpose in showing the single remaining Allied pocket in the south. The assault on the Leipzig Garrison made no progress. The loss totals are now 165,850 Allies (and 724 guns) vs. 40,880 French (and 11 guns).

No adjustments were made, since it will be easier to make them on the following turn, when the cease-fire takes effect. But note that forces from the south are being re-deployed to form a continuous line.

This shot shows how the southern forces are being redeployed to form the defense for the coming fight. That defense will be a cordon around Leipzig. Note the microscreen in the lower left corner, showing the overall situation. The attack to eliminate the remnants of the Allied southern forces need not be shown. It was eliminated after one combat round. Also note that the XI Corps has been moved east over the Pleisse in an attempt to take the Austrians attacking the Leipzig Garrison from the rear. That’s a risky operation. The Allies are about to receive massive reinforcements. They will all be fresh, while the French are blown. So, diverting several Corps to destroy the Austrians will leave the other French defenders dangerously short-handed.
