How many supply points are required to get a visit from Betty Grable? The Andrew Sisters? [:D]

Depends. Which time of war? Which base? Which outfit? Local band or does she travel with the complete crew?

August '44, Noumea, whoever's there (or were you referring to her apparel?), complete crew. [:'(]
Now, how many points are required to keep Jerry Lewis from accompanying her? [:D] Scratch that, he wasn't old enough.

I hear you screamin' about the oil, Bullwinkle. I chalked that one up as a lost cause way back when in WitP. I got whipped by a pro in one of my first PBEM's years and years ago. At the end of the game when I threw in the towel (he had pretty much everything except the West Coast), I was amazed when he showed his hand and showed that fuel and oil were no problem at all. Never phased him a bit. But supply he was critically short on. By taking all those bases, he was in the red everywhere and simply didn't have any to send from Japan. I could have walked in to a variety of places. That was a big leap of knowledge in playing this game better.

You are all welcome. Even the ungrateful and clueless Lobaron. Once again vile Hans stirred the pot and a useful discussion ensued. You are all welcome.

I was referring to her apparel. Was 'outfit' the wrong word, or just because it also means unit type? There my non-native tongue is at loss...
Complete crew, whew. Could cost PP in addition to supply. But ´44 Noumea should be in the 2k range. Think the garderobe, the beer, the stage, the post
performance cleanup, the medics for the more extreme hangovers, Betty Grable suing the organizer because they were unable to keep the crowd at distance
(ok, maybe this is PP cost as well), the electricity cost...thinking about it, lets say 2.5k?

Outfit could refer to a specific unit, not a type. Back to Betty Grable, because of the shortage of supply points and PPs, I guess she should come without her entourage and with no outfit(s) at all. boo-hoo. [:D]

Yes, the only Allied solution is a direct attack on Japanese oil centers with bombing. You can forget about interdicting supply or your subs having any sort of effect on shipping. But destroying oil production centers still works and should be a keystone to any Allied player's strategy.
I am OK with bombing bases to kill supply. The game has some wastage with supply sent over distances but not enough and even with air superiority either side has a free flow of supply and worse yet can freely strategic rail troops with little or no threat. I know the game calculates "air superiority" but really do not know for what reasons. It would be way cool if that air superiority calculation had a direct effect on supply wastage and caused high unit wastage for units railed in an area where units are under strong enemy air superiority.
But I will reserve that fantasy for AE2.....[:D]

I used to read the PBEM crowd sniffing at my posts about using subs to destroy the Japanese economy and wonder how could it be since both play methods use the same attack code. I was told I just didn't understand how superior human players were at convoy construction, escorting, and routing. "Yes" I protested, "but the choke points are in the same places for both AI and PBEM play." And I was told a lowly AI player Just Didn't Understand.
Then I played Japan a bit and saw the auto-magical way petroleum walks the earth, moving from Malaysia to Korea untouched by infrastructure. I began to understand. As a sub fan this is one aspect of the game I always loved to read about and to play. It was a core reason Japan was defeated when and how it was. The contribution of the Silent Service was massive. But not in a PBEM game. In an AI game it still can be. In the first three weeks of a new game I've already sunk over 20 Japanese ships, including a CVL.

To your comments about inadequate CAS interdiction of things like trains I would add that I think the effects of fire is understated too. A lot of supplies were lost long after the ordnance fell. So on balance I don't think the current model is bad. In a perfect world I'd like to be able to reassign engineers away from fixing airfield damage to a field I won't use, or that I want to leave hosed when the base falls, but I easily can live with it as it is.
