Soviet forces are still trying to make it through thw woods It takes heavy tanks awhile to get there. Partisans claim a German rocket halftrack so fewer sheels will be landing on my side

More Soviet tanks appearing ... by some strange quirk, when my Wurf 40's returned fire on partisans with rockets, the HE rocket hit the partisans, but the flame rocket (several times) hit a friendly tank some distance away ... I think the crews of the rocket launchers were punishing the panzer for not adequately protecting them !!
This was the turn of the Air Forces. Germans flew three sorties resulting in a dead BT-7, infantry casualties and a lot of scared ppl. Soviets flew 2 sorties resulting in a couple of halftracks and infantry. Arty exchange produced infantry casualtiers on both sides. Also, one German halftrack was taken by ground fire.

"Ungrateful peasants!" curses the engineer squad commander as he reloads his still smoking machine pistol "we try to liberate their village and they thank us by trying to sneak up on one of our Stug's with a molotov!" The dusty engineers move amongst the dead partisans and search them for weapons ... one trooper remarks "you'd think we'd invaded their country or something, sir"
-Panzers take a few shots at advancing Soviet tanks and only net a little Ami lend-lease scout tank, Motorcycle squads sally forth and send a few cavalry units and infantry squads scuttling back towards the safety of the tanks following behind :p
Soviets are still lost in the woods. Col Redsky is not having good time. This turn they lost several tanks and much infantry due to ground fire, artillery and air strikes.

"Well, Soldat do you see anything yet?" Shouts Oberst willy at the young trooper on lookout duty atop a tall pine tree. "Jawohl, Herr Oberst!" comes the reply: "Russian tanks are everywhere!!, I see them in the north woods and also in the south woods, I can also see lots of Cavalry and tank riders, too! - I can see muzzle flashes and hear gunfire ... they're running into our infantry positions and our panzers ... are moving up and returning fire!" The Oberst pulls out his mapcase, unfolds his battlemap, and grabs a grease marker:"Slow down, soldat, and give me the specifics ... we don't want you to get too exited and fall from that tree!"
-Russian tanks closing in, Infantry takes care of a T-34 and Panzers kill a mixed bag of two OT-133's, a BT-7, and a Stuart. I got flash messages of some Soviet vehicles mobility being repaired over the last few turns, so I'd guess Col. Redsky is being plagued with vehicle breakdowns in the thick forests! :p
Soviets throw many light AFVs with infantry support into the advance and lose a few of them but advance continues. The game at this point reminds me more of attack-defence with Germans controlling many vhexes, well setup ATG postions, dug in infantry and AFVs sitting back overlooking the field from the hills.

Soviet armour lays a beating on my infantry in the forests! the first echelon seems to be various light AFV's, cavalry, infantry, and even some Partisans. Manage to do some damage, but Aerial recon indicates that there is much more heavy metal coming my direction Soviets regain the northernmost VH's and smoke up the middle VH's real good. Also the continued punishment of the poor little village continues as Col. Redsky rains arty on their heads!! South front has been quieter, but armour is starting to nose out of the woods now, so that won't last long.
Soviet forces keep moving forward suffering lesser losses. A series of air strikes by Il-2s proves deadly to German forces Soviet artillery pummels the central hill and smokes the ruins the what used to be a small thriving community of workers and peasants before Germans 'liberated' it.

Soviet armour has pushed me from the northern VH's, but I retake the middle ones and my recon probes retake one of the southern VH's, however I lose an armoured car in the process. German panzers prowl, but only kill several previously crippled Russian tanks. An Il-2 raid last turn kills a Stug with rockets ., but my HS129's only damage a BT-7. German Infantry is suffering at the hands of OT-133 flamethrower tanks, and Oberst willy has sent an urgent order to OKW for asbestos suits!
Soviets take back the southern vhexes and smoke the area around them to deny German ATGs and AFVs concentrated in front of it LOS so if Germans want them back, they'll have to done those asbetstos suits and come on in Il-2s make another flight but only damage a halftrack, its disappointing to see them concentrating on weaker pieces when there's such a great saturation of German armor around Northern vhexes

Hans and his squadmates carefully search around for cover in the pine forest, but the old growth trees have starved low level brush of light, so they will have to make do with fallen logs and undulations in the ground. The squealing and clanking of approaching tanks and the sound of foreign voices yelling 'Urrahh!" lends urgency to their efforts. "Check your ammo and ready some grenade bundles, Bolshies will be on us soon!" yells the squad leader to his men. Hans pushes himself as low as he can between the roots of a massive tree and grips his grenade tightly as the dark outlines of Soviet tanks begin to take shape ahead of him in the darkness of the smoke shrouded Russian forest...
Close combat time. The Russians are laying as many smokescreens as they can to isolate the VH areas. Infantry dispatch a shell shocked T34, and panzers kill several smaller tanks, A PzIII is ambushed by a T34 an goes up in flames My air support makes a pass at the Soviet armour behind the northern VH's with no result - Back to you Col. Redsky!
Soviet forces take back southern vhexes yet one more time and slowly probe the central direction bombarding concentrations of infantry, armor and artillery surrounding the central hill from German side. Minor losses on both sides, German ATGs prove to be lethal to light Soviet tanks

In the northern sector a PzIII kills a flame tank, and aT34 is detected nosing into the poor flattened village so another PzIII moves up to damage it. In the south sector a BT-7 is killed by a PzIV. Col. Redsky still controls 3/4 of the middle Vhexes, and seems to be moving up infantry to defend them. The middle hill has been the target for a lot of Russian arty, but the only attacks made on it so far have been light infantry and cavalry probes.
