Col. Redsky vs Oberst Willy - 6'41. CCCP vs Deutchland

Post by red »

What can I say, it's beginning of the war and Germans open it with an air raid by a pair of Stukas who managed to bomb some MCs and cavalry. Soviet MCs advance to be stopped by some unfriendly artillery.

Nazi Biker gangs shoot up some Russian bikers and their Cossack buddies ... the Russian MC troops flee amid a volley of empty beer bottles and German drinkin' songs.
Oberst willy dispatches a couple of Armoured cars forward with a fresh keg for the men and grabs the radio mike in his command tank "Achtung! Bolshevik recon is probing the southern hill..."

The first 'wave' of Soviet MCs and Cavalry failed to secure all the objectives :D Luftwaffe flew a lone Bf-110 that destroyed evn more bikers and cavalry.

"Russische Panzer" yells the terrified driver of the Sd222 armoured car as the evil looking turret of the T34 rotates in their direction. <BOOM!> the commander of the Armoured car can feel the hot wind of the shell pass by him. The engine of the car revs and the tires sport rooster tails as the vehicle races back into the forest. "Herr Oberst we have found the second wave!"
-More recon battles in the centre and south and the crafty enemy is smoking suspected AT positions ... Armour spotted in the north, T-34's!

German on-board arty is quick to respond to Soviet probe in the north. Luftwaffe flies another sortie with Bf-110 that attacks T-34 in the north but I didn't see a direct hit. Meanwhile in the German rear partisans attack mortar positions killing an ammo truck.

"Verdammt Partisans" curses Oberst willy as he turns to Sgt. Steiner beside him "did you take care of them Sgt?" "Jawohl!" replies Steiner with a nasty grin "Three squads liquidated, but I am sure there is more out there ... we will be waiting Herr Oberst". Just then a messenger runs up ... "Herr Oberst, here is the intelligence briefing you requested on the new Soviet tank". willy examines the document and frowns: "invulnerable from the front to any German tank gun now in service it says ... Hitler said if we kick in the front door the whole rotten edifice will fall in, I am beginning to doubt this now, Steiner ..." Steiner grimaces and replies "Herr Oberst, we will need a bigger boot!"
-Soviet T-34's spotted in the south now too ...

Sgt. Ibragimov approached Col. Redsky: "Comrade Colonel, we managed to destroy that pesky AC car and a recon team up north, funny thing though we tried to take the thing out with T34s, it took MCs one throw of grenade to finish it. We should expect an air raid there though and at least bombardment. Otherwise nothing to report , they are hiding" Colonel thought to himself:"It just like Germans, send out MCs to recon our tanks and then hit them with Luftwaffe and mortars. Reminds me of one guy I knew back in Kama school. What's his name villiam something ?"

Not too much action this turn ... a squad of terrified partisans was discovered hiding in a farmhouse by a security patrol, flushed out with MG fire and overrun by a nearby tank. The biker/Cossack wars continue, and Soviet T-34's are starting to show themselves ... back to you Col Redsky.

Col. Redsky just got off the radio from the Air Force and artillery confirming hits on the targets identified by the Partisans in the previous turn when he heard the news of their elimination. Well at least some good cam from it. Soviet Air Force flew three sorties, killed one halftrack and scared some SS up north. So far just screening forces no major comitment on either side. Some German bikers were eliminated, they handled Cavalry great but it's hard to argue with T-34 from a distance. :D

German tanks take a couple of pot-shots at a T-34 and only succeed in shooting off it's radio antenna. Another T-34 down south immobilized itself overruning my MC squad (must have some handlebars, or perhaps a kickstand caught in it's tracks :D ), Recon skirmishing continues, and in my rear area Truck crews find another Partisan squad and punish them for daring to fire on soldiers of the Reich.

The reason that T-34 is stuck is that it is sitting on a pile of burnt bikes and can't get off. :D

Each sides continues to play the waiting game. T-34s tried to take out a halftrack in the north but failed but then a halftrack was destroyed by the artillery at the end of turn.

Gangs of enraged bikers leap on the immobilized T-34, bang on the hatches, hurl invective at the crew within and pee in the gas tank, but the vehicle remains intact ... their vengance for their comrades remains unfulfilled  Elsewhere probing continues, and after surviving attacks by several T-34's last turn, a Halftrack rallies and wipes out a Cossack squad caught in the hex with them.

This turn saw more acttion. Germans lost AC car, Halftrack and those bikers. Also PzIII was immobilized up north by Partisans before it wipred them out. At the end of the turn. The area where German bikers were run over by Soviets MCs and Cavalry was hit by German heavy artillery that killed most of my men :( That was pretty good move, I wish had known of it so I'd let German MCs die from it without sacrificing my troops.

The Signals officer hands the radio tranceiver to Oberst willy: "It's OKW sir, they want to talk to you ... Willy grabs the handset and replies "Commander Kampfgruppe Willy here!" "Oberst, have you captured you're objectives yet?" "Nein, Herr General we are facing new Soviet T-34 tanks, and heavy support" A few moments of silence follows this statement, and then ... "A Panzerman does not whine about resistance, he comes up with solutions - Vorwarts!!". Willy puts down the radioset and asks the Comms officer "Any new reports from the recon teams?" "Ja, Herr Oberst" comes the reply "The new Soviet KV heavy tank has been spotted in the northern sector, and partisans are being killed as they appear." Oberst willy lights a cigarette and exhales a puff of smoke "More nasy surprises ... well we've got some of our own."

Well, it's been a quiet turn , only one German halftrack was killed by T-34, surprised me by its shooting though, was unusually accurate. Exchanges of artillery fire. Lagg-3 flew a mission but didn't find much in the north.

Soviet armour is moving forwards ... recon locates an arty stunned T-34 up north and a few infantry squads bus forward and take turns stuffing grenades down the barrel until it makes a satisfying boom. Enemy is laying smoke on the south hill ... am I to take it as a feint or prepatory to an attack? hmmm ....

Soviets are advancing in the north. Lagg-3 flies a sortie and takes out a halftrack. Things are heating up.

Soviet tanks moving forwards ... one KV destroyed by a flanking shot at close range from a PzIII and another KV is blown up by infantry using the panzerwurfmine. Oberst willy is wondering where his Stuka's have disappeared to? Darn flyboys ... pounding the mud too boring for you?

I was wondering the same thing about those Stukas.. Soviets are going forward, Pz III is outnumbered and T-34 loses its head by traveling on a road in enemy controlled area, such a stupid mistake :(

Observation posts report T-34's and KV's everywhere moving forwards ... too many to count. It's turn 10 of a 15 turn game and most of the killin' looks like it will occur in the last 5 turns. Time to tighten the helmet straps and break open the extra ammo boxes
